Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Gif of the hit here in slow mo: https://gfycat.com/ScientificGiantGrunion

sorry for poor quality; i dont have gif skillz and the full speed hit looked really weird even when playing with different frame rates

Yeah I mean my thoughts remain -- his hands go through the player's upper chest, the head does not look like the PPOC, the puck is right there, the player is trying to play the puck and his head is about level with Connor's shoulder pads, and Connor just goes through him. That's not a major for me, and it sure as heck isn't a suspension. I'm baffled as to what the ECAC saw there.

It kind of looks like he is "attempting" to launch himself, but I never knew rules could be enforced on "almost attempts."

Physics says a hit like that is going to make a player come off the ice, just because that energy has to go somewhere. But it looks like his feet don't leave the ice until after contact. I'll admit it's close, but ... I still think that's not a major, much less a suspension. It's a hard, devastating hit. It sure didn't look illegal.

I agree 100%

I'm guessing the C Clifton suspension has more to do with the UMASS spear.
Anybody know MacMaster's status ?

Clifton's suspension is due to the Vermont game. He was given no supplemental discipline in the UMass game though you can make a case he should have received a game for that and none for this one. MacMaster has a lower body injury.

I think Dean Wormer had him on double secret probation. Tough knee on knee for MacMaster in the Dartmouth game, just wondered if anyone had any intel on his return.

I believe its not season ending and he did make the trip the Belfast I believe. He's not on crutches. Might be a similar injury to Kevin Duane.

That was just brutal to watch -- so many whistles, so many penalties. That second-period "hooking" call on RPI, where their guy raised his stick and touched the QU player, that's one of the softest calls I've ever seen.

They call those, but not the post-whistle wrestling matches. Infuriating game to watch for that reason. No college hockey game should ever take 2.5 hours to play. Awful.

Quinnipiac's PDO has to be terrible. Finishing continues to be a problem, and I'm still not sure where the goals are going to come from this season, but there remains reason for optimism. They do a ton of good things in all three zones, eventualy their luck has to get a little better.

Great job to mentally stay in that game after RPI got the equalizer. That's a tough game to win against a bad opponent with a good team coming in tomorrow night -- when it gets to 1-1, that's a tough game to win. Also good job to not get goaded into all the crap RPI was throwing after the whistles.

Interested to see Union tomorrow in person. Not sure how good they really are yet. They haven't beaten anyone unless you now count a sub .500 Michigan team on the road who got their doors blown off at Penn State this weekend. Union's other wins are AIC, Sacred Heart, RIT, Niagara, RPI twice, Yale, Brown, Princeton. They lost to Holy Cross, Clarkson and tied Saint Lawrence. They have really been a one line team so far this year with Vecchione-Foo-Vidmar.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Just wanted to say a few things:
First of all, thanks to the posters who recommended places to eat and shop before the game. Side Street Grille was a fun place with good food and the shoppes on Dixwell Ave were plentiful.
Second, the traffic lights were positively brutal. Sometimes you couldn't go 100 yards without hitting another red light.
Finally, the arena was first rate and we were treated well (well, at least off the ice).
Good luck, beat Union, and hope to see you in Chicago... :)

It's a terrific place to watch a game -- glad you enjoyed it.

The post-whistle stuff last night was atrocious. RPI was really pushing the envelope and the refs turned on the blinders.

Some of the calls they did make were laughable. McKernan reaches around a guy AND plays the puck but gets called for a slash? C'mon... that's a terrible call even for ECAC refs. Some of the calls against RPI were soft as well. Yet, as said, all the WWE stuff after the whistle slides right on by. It's a really good thing the ref's didn't lose control last night.

This offense has promise but they are currently snake-bit it seems. Lots of iron and shanks or whiffs on wide open nets over the past few weeks. That has to wear on their confidence to some extent. But then they a goal like Tim Clifton's in the 3rd and the tide turns. I believe they'll come around... at this pace they'll peak at just the right time!

Yes... it was good to see them stay focused. They let RPI hang around far too long last night and it would have been brutal emotionally to lose or tie that game.

As for the goading... the biggest goadee wasn't dressed last night although his brother came close a few times. If there's one thing I wish this team could do consistently, it would be to play through all that crap. I'm all for protecting your goalie, and even your teammates, but there's a right time and a wrong time for that. Seems they always have trouble figuring that out.

Hopefully whatever happened to MacMaster wasn't serious. He played very well last night up until he left the ice. I've also been mildly impressed with Duane over the past 2 weeks. He's big and slow, but has shown some good hustle and aggressiveness on the ice. The 2 kids that have really impressed me are Whelan and Jermain. Hustle every shift and aren't afraid to grind it anywhere on the ice.

We knew going in there were likely no superstars on this team. But the synergy is definitely there if/when they can figure it out on the ice. Tonight should be a good test of the makeup this team has.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Well that was frustrating.

We just put up 105 shots in one weekend, and had only two even-strength goals to show for it.

Over the last four games, our shooting percentage is 3.8%. For the season, it's 8.8%. That's five goals this weekend's worth of a difference. So this is a slump, and I believe it's going to pass. Frustrating while it's happening, but not much you can complain about right now with the way the team is playing offensively. Union did a great job finishing its chances -- they did a phenomenal job of getting the cross-ice passes through, and getting clean looks off those. We were overloading the strong side, it looked like, and if you don't stop that pass it gets ugly.

Hard to think these last two weekends were more than a blip, because our shooting percentage had been quite good before these last four games. I'd rather slump now than in March. Get that confidence back for Princeton, fellas!
