Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Well that was frustrating.

We just put up 105 shots in one weekend, and had only two even-strength goals to show for it.

Over the last four games, our shooting percentage is 3.8%. For the season, it's 8.8%. That's five goals this weekend's worth of a difference. So this is a slump, and I believe it's going to pass. Frustrating while it's happening, but not much you can complain about right now with the way the team is playing offensively. Union did a great job finishing its chances -- they did a phenomenal job of getting the cross-ice passes through, and getting clean looks off those. We were overloading the strong side, it looked like, and if you don't stop that pass it gets ugly.

Hard to think these last two weekends were more than a blip, because our shooting percentage had been quite good before these last four games. I'd rather slump now than in March. Get that confidence back for Princeton, fellas!

Have to wonder if the lack of a high end finisher is going to hurt this team this year. In the past we had Anas, St. Denis, Peca, the Jones', Brandon Wong, etc. They have goal scoring ability on this team but not someone who really finish like the names I mentioned in the past.

I agree with you, and I've wondered that myself. But 3.8% is not going to be their shooting percentage the rest of the year. Before this stretch they were somewhere around 10% -- imagine if we shot 10% this weekend? We would have had 10 or 11 goals. This will pass.

Definitely has to do with a lacking of a high end finisher. Was hoping Landon Smith would fill that role this year and he hasn't as of yet. We haven't had someone step up significantly this year like TSD, T Clifton, BVB all did going from sophomores to juniors. Rafferty and Cukste have been great additions though. Priskie hasn't really taken a big step either. We are definitely capable of an NCAA berth and possibly winning a game in the tourney, but we need more guys to step up to fill the voids of TSD, Anas, and Toews

Since we don't have that offensive "superstar", teams don't need to double-team anyone so there's less opportunity for the others to score. As Z said, this will pass. If they hadn't put up over 100 shots this weekend I'd say there's room for concern. Sooner or later some of these shots have to get in. We've been snakebit in the past and battled through it. We'll do it again. Remember, we've all been spoiled for a few years. They're holding their own and losing to a solid Union team isn't the end of the world.

In fact, I'd say last night's game made me more optimistic about the season. QU thoroughly outplayed a really good team. Completely dominated the game. The scoreboard doesn't lie, but I'm much more optimistic about things after the game than I was beforehand.

Well it was good to get a rare game on TV here on Long Island. And good to see the team play so well. But EXTREMELY frustrating to see them put up so many shots and only net 2 of them.

Did anyone else think Truehl could have had 1 or 2 of the ones that got past him? Nothing terrible but no great saves either.

This team does lack a high end finisher, and that will likely cause them not to make it to Chicago. But I think they can beat anyone on any given night. Rand really has a great system going. It is so obvious how well coached they are.

By the way I am an Islander fan (yeah, I know!) and I am hearing GREAT things about Devon Toews playing for the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He is likely going to make it to the NHL at some point this season or next. And Travis St. Denis scored 4 goals in 3 games for the Sound Tigers over this past weekend. Great to see Bobcats thriving!

I thought Truehl could have had the first goal. It looked very soft.

The first goal was a crazy deflection, he just whiffed on it after the deflection. So hard for a goalie to react to a deflection like that.

I can't remember all the other ones specifically, but as I recall most of them were either on the rush, or cross-ice passes, and those are very difficult for goalies to save. Hockey analytics tell us that when goalies are forced to go cross-crease like that, their save percentage drops very low. So no, I don't think it's fair to blame him for the goals allowed -- those were good plays by Union.

That was a painful loss. Credit to Princeton for doing what they needed to do. We skated hard but didn't seem to have any heart. Better figure it out quick with the short turnaround for tomorrow afternoon.

It's a pairwise killer type of loss. They can ill afford to be swept by this team.

It's time that QU dropped out of the top 20.

Don't think that's quite right, but as I said recently I definitely don't think we're a top-10 team in the country right now. Everyone has a bad day occasionally. Hopefully that's all last night was.
