You missed the point. I was referring to all of these "celebrations," not just the one at Quinnipiac. I was recounting the sad history of this "tradition," which is what I meant by "first it was...." For example, when the Red Sox won in 2004, the students in Boston went beserk, climbing up light posts and setting cars on fire. Remember the girl who got tazered by the police that started a big controversy? When the Lakers and Pistons won, L.A. and Detroit was practically shut down. So all I was saying was that now it has "evolved" from that kind of stuff to a "new" thing (ripping out trees).
No one overturned cars. It's completely fair game to get on the kids for ripping trees out of the ground, but let's not act as if this is the worst rioting you've ever seen after a sporting event. In the overall scheme of things, it was harmless. Hopefully it stays that way on Saturday.
