Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

Classic Garteig shutout...15 saves. Boys looked good tonight. Just the way I had hoped. Toews was impressive with that goal and his pass on TSD's goal was a beaut. Time to get ready for a battle with Maine.

Larson, when's Red going to show he knows how to coach your boys up there?

Black Bears are looking good so are this year. Very gritty team with lots of energy. McGovern was huge last weekend against North Dakota (Bobcats could have used him in the regional last year.)

My biggest concern about Aldworth is the potential that he could leave early to join a presidential race ticket. I mean Trump-Aldworth or Sanders-Aldworth is basically a lock for the White House.

I like the Moneys-Worth nickname but I say just call him Money because he has been straight cash this year.

Eagle - Any chance we see more of Hilbrich down the line?

Not enough credit is given to the coaching staff for their recruiting. This program continues to bring in kids with huge high-end talent, and Aldworth is just the latest one. Obviously he's not playing against the cream of the crop right now, but this kid is high-end. Another coup for Quinnipiac in a long line of them.

100% agree with you here... I keep saying every year, "There is no way they can bring in another Freshman like ________." But they prove me wrong.

Tough call. My guess is we may see him on Senior Night.

This would be his only other chance to play. And if its a gamd they really need for seeding, etc. I dont see him playing. Other than that it's a healthy scratch every night for him. They have better players than him on the roster that I'd play over him.

Although you can't really see it on the video replay, I experienced a hockey "first" last night - with about 9:17 left in the game (about 15:39 left on the video recap ) the ASU kid's stick went THROUGH the seam in the glass and made contact with a spectator's face (lightly) and got stuck there (in the glass, not the face). Pretty crazy.

In other news, Luke Shiplo looked miles better than his shaky performance in the exhibition game. Has some offensive-defenseman potential for sure.

Unfortunately for Hilbrich you are pretty much spot on with that. I am sure he might get a few seconds in the 3rd here and there depending on scores.

Ya but that would mean he is in the lineup...which won't happen. Senior night is his only shot...and we play Brown. Unfortunately I think thats the last we've seen of Hilbrich. Wish he could've netted that one last night.

To bring up a point on the recruits and the coaching staff bringing them in: I think we should be crediting the staff for knowing these kids and putting them in spots where they have the best opportunity to succeed. I remember an article that Chip did on Anas his freshman year and Anas said something along the lines of "I chose Quinnipiac because they were the first people to see me and I thought they truly understood the type of player I am." We see so many drafted kids in college hockey that come in highly touted and struggle through their freshman year. It's a two way street, the kid needs to perform, but the coaches also have to be putting them in the right spots and asking them to do only what they are capable of, while developing them. That is where Rand, Bill, and Reid do a fantastic job. We are lucky to have them! Though I think this will be Riga's last year. The guy has to get a head coaching job soon.

Okay so you cleared up the whole Hilbrich thing. I was thinking he would be suiting up at least. And your view on the coaching staff is spot on. I was going to ask the question, what do you think about the coaching staff making moves? In terms of bringing in a new face to maybe get the whole program to the next level.

Rand isn't going anywhere unless he wants to, and why would he want to? This is his program and I think he's a lifer.

Reid is too new to coaching, he's at his alma mater, and he seems to be doing a great job with the guys. Maybe a few years from now, but not anytime soon.

Riga is the only one who may leave... maybe. He's got what's needed to be a head coach and will get an opportunity at some point.

As long as the program remains competitive I doubt there will be any significant changes behind the bench.

Chip Malafronte's piece in today's Register shows that Hilbrich wasn't a last minute decision for Rand. He knew what he was doing and made sure Tom's parents were there to see it. Will he become a regular? Probably not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him again before senior night, possibly against UConn.

I would be shocked to see Hilbrich again. He played because Arizona State doesn't have legit D1 talent yet. Everyone else on the schedule does and this team was beaten by UCONN last year. They can't afford that again. I'm happy Hilbrich got his chance but he's a guy that want scratched every night for better players to play.

Oh yeah, the D is so "elite". Outside of Clifton, it does not matter who they play. Get sick of hearing how players are only "practice" players. Absurd coaching, pigeon hole kids. The kid is 6' 6" and could play a 5-6 spot every night. Get real.

He played forward on Thursday and I would expect him to repeat that should he play again. Big 4th line grinder role... less of a liability than a 5-6 D.

Either your his dad, his old coach, or crazy cause Hilbrich could not be a 5 or 6 defenseman on the Bobcats. Priskie and Shiplo are FAR better

Hilbrich is what he is...a preferred walk-on for the team. They have 3 freshman Dmen already better than him in Priskie, Shiplo and Daniel Fritz. With Clifton, Toews, Barron, Smith, Sherbinin and McKernan they are all set at defense. Every one of those players are ahead of Hilbrich at the defense position. Just because you are 6'6 doesn't mean you should play.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-15 - Another journey begins...

Guess it is time that I start talking to you cool (bob)cats again. Been a little out of touch lately with my Metsies still playing, but boy does it feel good to be watching this team on the ice again.

Haven't gotten an opportunity to really watch a full game yet this year, but that will change this weekend! I hope to make it up to Hamden in time Friday to catch most of the game, but will be there for sure on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing this Aldworth kid in person.

This weekend should be fun. Hope to see everyone at the Bank! Go Bobcats!

Are you bringing sandwiches? :D

Is the crew gonna be doing pregame libations at the favorite watering hole Saturday?

These are going to be a really tough 3 games. If Q comes out with 2 out of 3 we will be in great shape in the polls. SCSU has 3 shutouts so far this season, could be a scary series!
