Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Quite the impressive win tonight for your team. In looking at the box score. it lists 19 penalties for Cornell and 15 for Q. What the heck happened in the second period?

Final seconds of the second period, we have the puck at the blue line, our kid's not doing a thing, just letting time end. Two Cornell goons sandwich him into the boards. Remember, it's 9-0 at this point. There's no need for any of this.

That started a pretty good line brawl, A Cornell kid got a major, the other nine guys on the ice got minors and misconducts. It was unnecessary, cheap, and stupid. Welcome to Cornell hockey, I guess. If they're not winning, they're playing it like they're in Slapshot.

Seven goals! ;)

Two Cornell guys ran a Bobcat into the boards at the buzzer and a huge scrum broke out. The refs spent almost the entire intermission figuring it out. When the 3rd started, there were 5 Q players and 5 Cornell players in the box, plus one Big Red in the locker room. The refs did a good job of not letting anything get out of hand in the early part of the 3rd.

A real classy showing by the Big Red. The best part was a Bobcat glove laying on the ice near the crease by the exit to the Cornell locker room. As Ferlin was leaving the ice, he tried to grab the glove but one of the linesmen stopped him. Then McCarron grabs it with his stick, carries it through the gate, and tosses it into the stands. Not sure what they were trying to prove but it was a gutless move.

I have to admit that Chip McDonald and Andy O'Brien did a great job maintaining order in the 3rd. Yes, I am defending Chip! It could have gotten really ugly but they weren't going to let that happen.

In the past, I've respected the way they play because they play their system better than any other college team, but they're the least classy team in our league. I hope tomorrow's just as embarrassing for them.

What you're describing is more gamesmanship than anything else, but you're right. It's all stupidity.

And, you're right -- I was actually impressed, for a change, at how well the officials handled the donnybrook and the third period. I didn't like how they handled the first period, but the nasty parts of that game were handled very well.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Do you think they may have been ****ed about being scored upon so many times? Maybe Q could have taken the foot off the gas after a six or seven goal lead. I understand that is hard to do, but they were playing a team that has trouble scoring two goals a game. Gonna stop up to see the bloodbath Sunday night. Q should pray for a win with no serious injuries.

Great win tonight and was glad I was at the bank for this one. Need to come out strong again tomorrow and send Cornell packing early.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

By the way I got a prelim schedule for next year and its very solid. I don't know if there are any QU athletics people on this board but if not I can post it here or just pm me.

Notice the score. And notice how many misconducts the losing team took in that game.

There's a classy way to approach a beatdown like that, then there's the way Cornell approached it. Notice the misconducts in this game from the losing team:

Before we talk about Cornell, please try and defend Goodman with 5 minutes left picking up two five minute majors. That was embarrassing to watch as a fan of a team up that much that late. Say what you want about Cornell at the end of the second but it was Goodie throwing the cross check that should have him out on Sunday.

With that said I was so happy to see Hibbs join the fight at the end of the second when Dias jumped in. With Bui tied up nothing makes me happier to see the team battling for each other. It didn't matter if it was Bui or it was the Jones, Hibbs jumped in to help.

You're absolutely right. That was a dirty hit by Goodman there.

I expect to see him sit tomorrow. However, I'm not sure that was a double-major hit (I haven't watched the replay yet). I do think it was a message being sent by the refs. Whatever it was, it was a stupid hit at a stupid time by Goodie.

That was great to see.

In yet another act of class, at the end of that scrum, a Cornell player was mouthing off and gesturing to a fan right at the glass! The one thing I noticed, and took to mean that he knew his guys were thugging it up, was that Schafer was rather calm after the scrum. He wasn't screaming and yelling at the refs and even motioned to a couple of his players to head to the locker room.

Well, he also wanted his guys to the locker room so no one gets suspended for tomorrow night.

Maybe the classy move would be to call off the dogs after being up by 7 or 8 as I said. Maybe it's payback by the Coach for the old days when those teams dominated the Q. I was listening to the Q game on the radio in the car (aka Blue Devil Lounge) between periods at the Yale game, and even the Q announcers thought it was too much. I really hope you guys make it to AC it should be a great road trip, best price for a decent room on the boardwalk that i could find was $129 at the Tropicana.

It was the 2nd period! Maybe you let up in the 3rd (as Q did) but not the 2nd. This isn't Pee Wee's... it's D-I. If you can't take the heat, get off the ice. Would Cornell let up if the roles were reversed?

Gonna stop up to see the bloodbath Sunday night. Q should pray for a win with no serious injuries.
I doubt you'll see any dirty play tomorrow... the game is too important.

This is not checkers against your own mother. This is hockey. If this was a game where teams are feeling bad for each other, then why not just call off the rest of the game. Let the teams just leave the puck at center ice and let the final 20 minutes expire without a whistle. Obviously that is ridiculous, but why shouldn't QU keep going? Tomorrow is going to be darn fun, that is for sure.

Ill post the 2013-14 prelim schedule tomorrow here.

Or, maybe Cornell could do something novel and actually stop the puck. They are perfectly capable of keeping the puck out of their own net. Not Quinnipiac's problem if they decided not to defend tonight.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Way to go Quinnipiac !!!! Great Job !!! .... Give them Hell tonight !!!! Cornell finally got their comeuppance (A punishment or fate that someone like Cornell really deserves). The teams middle name should be "cheap shot". Best thrashing since Harvard gave it to them last year in the semifinals. As the saying goes .... Cornell can dish it out but they can't take it. If they show up for today's game, don't let up and we will see you in Atlantic City !!!!

Take the foot off the gas? What do you think this is youth hockey?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Welcome to a brand new day! The scoreboard reads 0-0 and there are no gimme's. Cornell will be ready and playing for their season. We will need to come out with the same intensity as we did last night. I suspect Goodman will be suspended by the league and wonder if there will be others (on both sides) in the aftermath of the big scrum.

Tonight will likely be a low scoring, defensive battle. We will need to play smart and disciplined, trying not to get drawn in to taking stupid penalties. If the boys can stay focused and stick to their game plan, they can put away the Big Red.

Remember tonight is a 7:30 start due to the women's basketball game starting at 5:00. The Bank should be rocking on both sides of the lobby this evening.

Go Q!
