Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Thank God for exhibitions. Of course, we didn't roll any of our normal lines and had 7 would-be regulars in street clothes. The coaching staff obviously used the game as an experiment to see where they need the most work. Defensively I liked what we showed but the offense needs work (though that may be the odd line combos), especially the power play. The most notable effort came from freshman goalie Michael Garteig. The kid was fantastic and looked like he saw the puck exceptionally well.

All I can say is that the talk about our "potential" is not hype. If some of these freshmen can contribute right away, we'll be fine.

It's an odd year anyway; you know you're getting a tie against us. :p:D

Moved up to 18th in this week's ranking. I know it doesn't mean anything but it's nice to know we're getting recognition in the D-I community.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Expecting Yale type numbers for an afternoon tilt against an Atlantic Hockey opponent?
It's Parent's Weekend so maybe the crowd will be a bit better than normal, but I doubt the Bank will be anywhere near capacity.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Very impressive turnout. I still loathe early starts but the doubleheader is a nice touch that hopefully gets a few early comers for the Women's game.

Anything less than a sweep this weekend and we can pump the breaks on the hopeful tone emanating from that CHN article.

I agree. This team needs to come out and show what it's made of. We should be able to roll 3 (possibly 4) solid lines and there doesn't seem to be a weak link defensively (at least not yet). But all the talk and hype means nothing if they don't go out and get it done.

Today, in front of a decent parent's weekend crowd, we take care of Bobby Mo 5-2.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

It was a very decent crowd... I'd say the Bank was at 80% capacity. As expected, no real student section since they were all scattered about with the families but still a respectable showing.

The game started slow. Bobby Mo skated us about even during the 1st and we looked flat. A much different team came out of the Bobcats locker room for the 2nd. We were controlling both ends of the ice and the Colonials were chasing most of the time. Goals by Goodman and Hibbeler put us up 2-0 heading into the 3rd. Robert Morris tried to step it up in the 3rd but a couple of more goals by Barron and Langlois iced it for us. Things appeared to get a little chippy over the last 4 or 5 minutes so there's no telling what tomorrow will be like.

While we remained perfect on the PK, the PP was blanked yet again. There were some good looks and close shots but nothing to show for it. Overall I thought the team looked good. The offense needs to settle in and let the lines gel a bit. Still too much finesse and not enough shots on net IMHO. A garbage goal looks the same in the box score as a pretty tic-tac-toe one. Get more rubber to the net. Hartzell was great in net making some key saves at key moments and the D played well in front of him.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Not a bad home start. Like Mark said, the arena was pretty full..almost as full as a Yale game but lacked that buzz.

It took a bit but the boys asserted their dominance towards the end of the second and there on out as Hartzell while the save count was low was awfully good when tested. I remarked to Mr. Eagle during the game that JST, for his size, does not mix it up a lot and pulls up when a big hit is there for the taking. He appears to have a similar game to Bryan Leitch, which if he puts up the same points, isn't a bad thing. With the exception of the Jones-Peca line, who seems to be squeezing the stick a little hard, the rest of the team looks in mid season form. All three defensive units, with the exception of Dalsy on occasion look great. The Langlois/JST/St. Denis line continually create scoring chances and the 3rd and 4th lines have been quite productive. Cory Hibbeler and Bryce Van Brabant are playing like men possessed and seldom seen last year, Danny Federico has been a physical presence on D. Pretty impressed and production from our top line will come. Today should be very chippy as McDonald (go figure) and Whittemore seemed to lose the game towards the end yesterday. Hopefully the Bank will be just as full! Go Q! Called for a 2-1 victory earlier in the week. We'll stick with it.

Id be interested in your comments on todays 4-0 loss to Robert Morris. Yesterday we watched live streaming
but had to listen to the radio today. I know RMU were badly outshot.
Part of yesterdays non effort was due a 8.5 hr bus ride. Good luck the rest of the year.

I'm not sure I want to publicize my comments. It was a dismal effort on our part. Hats off to the Colonials for coming out and playing the game hard and with determination.

The shot count is misleading... lot's of first chances but almost no second chances and when there were, we had nobody home to sweep up the trash. We won the faceoff battle by a 2:1 margin as well and have nothing to show for it.

I'm sure Hartzell wants those 2 goals back. Both were fairly easy shots that should have been handled. He was clearly rattled after giving up the second one. The third goal (shortie) against Hartieg was just a lackluster performance by our PP unit... no urgency once the puck got out of the zone while Hervato pursued, never gave up, and put a really slick move on Hartieg right on top of the crease. Levine was stout for Bobby Mo, making some huge saves that probably would have changed the flow of the game had they gone in. Speaking of the power-play, we really need to work on that. 0-fer whatever is dismal. Of course, that's offset by a stellar PK but you don't win games if you don't score goals.

In my opinion, we are passing way too much and today those passes were being broken up nicely by RMU. Too much finesse, not enough muscle. And it was obvious that Jeremy Langlois is a huge part of our offense and not having him out there today was obvious. I also don't think the line combos have come together yet. The PBJ line (Peca and the Brothers Jones ;)) is trying way too hard. Passes aren't crisp tape-to-tape like they need to be or are ill-advised right into traffic. Yeah, sooner or later one will pop through but they need to work on that.

Time to regroup and spend the week getting ready for tOSU.

With that logic, can I blame today's game on our 8.5 minute ride to the rink?

Good luck the rest of the year.
Same to you guys.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

The good thing about not having all the D-I teams in action is that the embarrassment of yesterday dodn't cause us to fall very far in the poll. Just made the cut at #20.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

So what's the Quinnipiac fan's perspective on this weekends games against Ohio State?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Why was the Sunday start time at noon?
Had to be an accomodation for parent's weekend... not that it mattered because the place was empty.

To be honest I haven't done my homework and don't know a whole lot about OSU. On the surface, if our offense finds itself and the defense plays its game, we should be able to take both games. I'm sure the shutout loss to RMU last weekend left a bad taste in their mouth so hopefully they'll be hungry for the Buckeyes.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

I see you lost 7 seniors from last year but have ten seniors this year. That many in a senior class one would think would give you strength in size and experience. Our largest class is our sophomores. How many of your seniors from last season that are gone now were strong contributors?

Five of them for sure and another was a goalie. While we have the experience factor going for us, things haven't yet come together being so early in the season.. Maybe this will be the weekend that happens but you never know. My homer pick is that we'll sweep OSU in our barn. As we all know, however, anything is possible in D-I hockey. That's why they play the games.

We had a respectable split last weekend in Minnesota Duluth's barn. The friday night game was bad for us as we couldn't get our defense going in the 1st period. We also switched to our freshman goalie for the Saturday game. He's 6'3" and fills the net but it's up in the air who will get the start, the senior or the freshman. We do have a number of players who are fast skaters and have quick wrists. It should be a good series.

"Had to be an accomodation for parent's weekend... not that it mattered because the place was empty."

Scheduling a game at noon during NFL is basically saying "we don't care if students come or not"
