Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Question for any QU fan who was at the Yale game, was that a bad game for the Jones brothers? I have heard great things about them this year but havent had much of a chance to see them other than that game. They did not stand out in that game.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

the two jones brothers are exciting to watch. that line is it seems, the entire offense though. I hope Q can find other people to carry the load on a long season as all players have luls in play and need help sometimes to pull out wins. If this happens i think Q can be a good contender for a top four spot.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Has anyone tried to get video off the QU athletics website? It appears you can only buy pay-per-game viewing... I hope that's not true -- $9.99 to watch a college hockey/hoops game doesn't seem reasonable to me... Last year, they sold monthly live games for $7.95...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Look forward to see many of you at one (or all!) of our upcoming three games (H, D & P) at the Bank.

Should be there, with the youngin's, for at least the Harvard and Dartmouth game. Tuesday night's are usually hard to swing, but will be there for part of it at least. Season has certainly been interesting so far.

I agree with you on the pricing. Maybe Fred can explain why the monthly plan isn’t available this year.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Interesting stretch of games coming up: 3 in 5 days; 4 in 8 days with the holiday mixed in. Three of them are league games at home so we have an opportunity to make up some ground in the standings. Unfortunately, the students leave campus on Friday for Thanksgiving break so the crowds will probably not be that big or rowdy. Those of us that are there will just need to cheer louder! ;)

I, for one, am very excited to see four games in just over a week. It'll also be nice to get the boys back at home where since the Bank opened they are 40-24-6 (.571).

Dartmouth is certainly coming in hot after dismantling North Country last weekend and tying a quality Union squad the previous weekend. Mello seems to be their guy and has played great surrendering only 2 goals in the last three games. This should be a great early test for our team playing the role of firemen trying to put out the red hot Green:confused:. I'll take the Bobcats to handle this task and pull out a 2-1 squeaker with hopefully Eric Hartzell between the pipes.

I think after Zurvy's final emergence at Colgate last Saturday he is ready to turn it on and take home stars night in and night out. If this is the case we should be okay. Here's to it actually happening.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I'm still hoping to see some offensive production from these Bobcats and I think we can stop the Big Green tonight. I'll go with QU 4-1.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

So Happy to see that the Bobcats won!
Hartzell 31 saves with the shut-out - so glad Rand started him
Can't wait to make it to the bank for a game soon

Hartzell was stellar tonight. Several huge saves at key times. Even a couple that looked impossible. The kid was on fire... if he doesn't get the start tomorrow I'll be stunned.

After a very boring 1st period, they came out in the 2nd and really picked up the pace. John Dunbar scored his 1st collegiate goal on a beautiful pass from Langlois... hi-lite worthy for sure. Dartmouth had some chances but Hartzell stoned them all.

In the 3rd Dartmouth picked up their game but looked a bit out of sorts. Lots of muffed passes and missed chances. We spent the bulk of the period grinding out the clock.

Overall, a good win and a nice way to start the weekend. After seeing the Big Green put up 13 last weekend I thought we'd have our hands full. I'm still surprised that our offense hasn't woken up yet but as long as the whole team competes, I think we'll be ok.

Bring on the Crimson tomorrow and let's go for the sweep!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I forgot to mention that the team looked great last night playing at home wearing their road blues!

I think it was an accommodation for Dartmouth who's playing a TV game at Princeton today, but it was a nice change (and I love those road blues! ;) ).

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Four point weekend!!!

Except for the last 5 minutes of the 2nd, tonight was by far the best performance yet by this team. Hartzell was again very strong even though he gave up 4. Made saves when he had to, including a stellar glove save in the closing seconds.

Ben Arndt was tonights standout playing a very agressive game and was rewarded with 2 goals. Dunbar had another great game and his second goal of the year. The Jones-to-Oakes-to-Jones goal was the prettiest of the season so far, and Yuri's blast was impressive.

It was nice to see them stand up and match Harvard's intensity when they needed to.

Rest up and take it to the Tigers on Tuesday! ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Great Weekend for the Bobcats. Almost 10,000 fans came to the "Bank" in 24 hours. for the Dartmouth (MHOK), Vermont (MBB) & Harvard (MHOK).

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Can't beat a four point weekend against two decent opponents. This team has shown top four league ability but has been just as erratic and youthful in their losses. Hopefully they can ride this hot streak into Tuesday and take their fourth straight league game. I'd continue with Hartzell. He gave up four but at least two were out of his control and he seems to do something that Clarke does not do and that is stop the near impossible goals. Clarke is solid and doesn't make too many mistakes but he is never extraordinary. Hartz for the past two nights has stood on his head and made some mind boggling saves. He also possesses the rare ability to move the puck up ice and keep the game flowing. Far too often Clarkie covers the puck even when there isn't imminent danger near.

There aren't too many negatives to take from the two wins. I thought for the most part our D was solid with the exception of the usual suspects. Not for nothing but I can't for the life of me understand why Rand continues to play Barron and Hansen in the same D pairing.

We finally showed some life last night offensively and it's a good sign that it's coming from all lines. Arnt nets two, the Jones' and Oakes combine for the finest goal we've seen this year and the Heichman, Yuri, Harvey line played hard and competent all weekend. That line should be a mainstay all year, they seem to play well together and have excellent chemistry.

I saw that Zurvy was given a contact to the head major and a game misconduct after the final whistle last night. I saw many people going at it after the game but I'd be pulling a major homer card if I ignored what Zurvy was doing. There is no reason for it. You take your four points and get to the locker room. I think it may have been a little frustration about his own play manifesting itself in a physical release. He seems to be pressing on the ice and squeezing the stick a little too hard. He has plenty of physical ability and God given talent. The scoring is coming from all over, so there isn't that much pressure for him to score. Take it easy and play your game!

Finally, I liked reading that we are 4-0-2 against Harvard at home. I like that. It takes them down a peg or two. :D. 7-4-1 is not a bad start but it needs to continue. Let's go Q!

I didn't see what precipitated that so I'll defer to your analysis. I was watching the bigger scrum back in the corner and only saw the aftermath of the Zurvy situation (by then he and Harvard's Moriarity were already face down on the ice). The only way I could defend him was if he was standing up for Hartzell, but I agree... at that point take the 4 points and head to the locker room.

It was unfortunate but the refs almost lost control of that game during the late 2nd period by letting so many calls go (on both sides). And everyone in the Bank knew Harvard was going to throw everything at us in that final minute.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

If it wasn't for David Marshall's play this installment of the Alumni Update would be rather depressing.

Marshall has tallied 7 goals and 4 assists in 16 games for the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL which puts him second on the team.

His teammate and former Bobcat Dan Henningson has been a mainstay on the Nailers' blue line and has 2 goals and 3 assists in 16 games this year.

Former captain Jean Marc Beaudoin has been consistently playing for the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL but struggling to reach the scoresheet tallying 1 goal, 4 assists and a -8 rating through 16 games.

Jamie Bates seemed primed to make the jump from the ECHL to the AHL after having a phenomenal year with the Stockton Thunder last year but since moving to Las Vegas of the ECHL he has only been able to tally 4 assists in 7 games. He has been absent from the box score of late and what seemed to be an inevitable call up to the AHL looks improbable now.

Eric Lampe has scored 4 goals and recorded 1 assist in 6 games for the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL but has been absent from the Jackals' lineup over the past few games. Lampe is a +5 in the six games so hopefully it is injury related and not a healthy scratch type of scenario. He was spotted at the Bobcats' game Saturday night against Harvard.

Brandon Wong was sent down from the Hartford Wolfpack/Connecticut Whale to Greenville of the ECHL and has been able to tally a point a game since landing there with 1 goal and 6 assists in 7 games. He is also a +7 in that time. Hopefully that play will get him back up to the AHL.

Bryan Leitch was seen playing in the Quinnipiac Alumni game and seems to be finished at the professional ranks.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Brilliant weekend from an outsider's perspective. 7-4-1 with a young team. We've only lost to Ohio State at home and St. Cloud, Cornell and Yale on the road. I'm taking that any day.

Even better, looks like I'll be able to make at least one of the New Years series with UNO. Cannot wait.

Looks pretty good to us insiders too! ;)

I don't think anyone can be unhappy with where we are. Sure, we could be better, but I think we've held up pretty well thus far. This past weekend was huge on many levels. The 4 points really helped put us back in the hunt, but I was really impressed with the level of play, especially Saturday. They actually showed some heart which we really haven't seen other than in spurts.

With the game well in hand before coughing up 3 goals in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd against Harvard, it would have been easy for them to fold up their tents and go home, But they came out in the 3rd and played one of their best periods of hockey thus far.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Glad to hear it Mark. Maybe we can be better but again from my outsiders prospective, we're not dropping games that we should win on paper. Been a problem in years past. If we can keep it up (my long memory says I'll believe it when I see it) we'll be in a nice spot in March.
