Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

Speed skiing was the guys with darth Vader helmets going straight down a slope at 150mph

That ended when the lady hit the groomer didn't it?

Had forgotten about that event.

I had never heard of it before today.

That’s sport might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. It’s like a competition to see who can open their parachute last.

In addition to other injuries, speed skiers that have fallen often suffer burns from sliding across the snow at high speeds. Skiers have said their suit melted into their flesh.

I don’t doubt it. We’ve seen what happens in the TDF when they’re going 30-50 mph. I can’t imagine going 120+.

Just watching one crash I can’t believe they don’t have their bindings set differently. It looks like their legs were almost ripped off.

They have an extreme version of it here in Alaska called Arctic Man. Basically speed ski down a slope, catch a tow rope towed by a snowmachine (that’s snowmobile to you non-Alaskans), ride up a hill, speed ski again.

To address the 2nd part of this: In a FIS ski race, if you lose a ski, your day is over... Because of this, ski racers crank bindings down so you don't have a false release, knees be ****ed....

Interesting. Thanks for the tidbit.

These people are insane.

Staying awake for curling will be a challenge. Need this Denver-SCSU game to go five overtimes.

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

This Alpine Team Event isn't nearly as good as I was expecting. It sounded like it would be fun to watch, but it is pretty boring. Oh well.

They give up two but that’s not the end of the world...
