Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

I'd like to take you with me for a swim in the Plaid Sea at the Corner Pub in my patriotic, white-picket-fence, farming town some evening, preferably one when the Packers are playing.

I'll wear my Hillary shirt.

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

Maybe at Cornell, the women's hockey team was as good as it got?

Theatre Arts. Now ask my major.

But they were probably lesbians anyway, right Kep?

Is it really news to people that a very large number of women hockey players are lesbians? Seriously? You people need to get out more.

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

tl;dr Kep is an Ivy League doosh who wants to ogle beautiful women. ;)

It's a fair cop, but I would hasten to point out that the statements are independent of each other. The latter is my only working class trait. But we all have our disabilities.

But not Norwegian women's hockey players.

Its just that, if someone were to make a comment, borderline complaining, about all male skaters being gay, they'd be roasted in here.

I think the Scandinavians are over labeling gender choice. It's all just a smorgasbord (sp?).

But it would be a factual statement.

I wasn't complaining -- everybody but Dr. Mrs. is off the menu anyway, much to their, if not her, relief. Pointing out interior decorators or hairdressers or red state Republicans or Islamic and Christian fundamentalists are mostly pillow biters isn't homophobic. It's just a boring truism.

Right now I wish my major and my career had been Norweigan Basket Weaving.

I agree, but I do think a comment like that, even if it was true, would draw angry responses.

Ironically I once found myself at a birthday party with 25 Norwegian lesbians the last time I was in Oslo.

How is it that you know this?

I mean... softball? Obviously, but hockey?

I will say that one former college player that I've known and played with for years claimed that there were a significant number on her team.

She is married (to a guy) though and so are all the rest that have ever played in my groups or leagues... maybe another 10 former D-1 players.

We also have some female players who did not play college.

It's been an open joke for decades, but my empirical evidence is from some ex-players at different schools and also a good female friend who spent years in media and PR in the womens hockey community. According to her, "before I started working in the biz my estimate would have been 30%. It's actually far closer to 60% -- enough so that there are places where straight players are ostracized."

Softball is a good analogy. When you're talking about high school or adults just f-cking around in rec league then the numbers are just like the gen pop -- 5% give or take. But as you get to the high levels of competition, for whatever reason, it's carpet lick city.

The end of Rule 3 is "...and their rule is absolute."

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

The end of Rule 3 is "...and their rule is absolute."

That's actually not true, though. We can and do intervene. We can't change Physics or Biology but we can change our position within the rules. Man can fly. Physics didn't change, we just used it. Same with medicine for Biology. Biology would appear to condemn women to servitude and death. We kicked Biology's as-s. When we are using rather than being used by Physics and Biology then we are in charge. They are King and Queen but their kingdom is just a chesspiece for us.

Our interventions are getting so effective that Rule 2 is teetering on the edge and will be effectively repealed within the next century. Even though it will still be technically true, the practical effects will be able to be postponed further and further and eventually indefinitely.

We will eventually be strong enough to thus practically qualify nearly all of the rules. A man has limitations. Mankind has none.

Rules 6 and 9 are already for all real purposes dead. Yes, they are "true," but insistence on them under all circumstances is wildly inane and only fan service for sick and uncaring ideologies.

Rule 4 is flat out wrong unless you somehow separate our thoughts from the universe. Our empathy, charity, generosity and mercy are all part of the universe -- they are "natural." The original human idea that they are divine and divinity is outside the universe is a mental illness.

Rules 7 and 10 are also teetering.

Rules 1, 5, and 8 are probably the only rules that deserve to be called "rules." The rest are just target practice for human innovation, and shields for cowards and sociopaths to crouch behind.

Above them all is Rule 0. Where there's life, there's hope.

We were in Oslo in December, and went to the Christmas market. They had an ice rink for kids to skate on. We got some snacks and mulled wine and sat on the balcony overlooking the ice rink for a bit. Those Norwegian kids sure can't skate worth ****. The kids on the rink we saw in Stockholm were badass. Now I know why the Norwegians suck at hockey.
