Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

You'd think we would have learned after the Holy Cross debacle a few years back, but nope. Don't take the road games against Atlantic Hockey teams lightly. Good to see Hawkey's back up playing well
Again, there's plenty of time to stop taking 9,000 penalties...

Yet we scheduled Holy Cross this year and they are playing on campus. This is NOT a good move as that place can be tough to play in compared to Bridgeport/Sacred Heart.

If we are afraid to play HC in their bldg then we don't deserve to be ranked at 5....if you claim to be good then go out and prove it

I agree, play anybody anywhere. Holy cross can be a tough place to play for visitors? the rink is small and unorthodox capacity 1,200 only. Why worry? Need to beat BU at Their home opener at Aggainis. Not exactly a cakewalk

Hopefully Providence takes advantage of playing a winless team this weekend on the night of the World Series. Got to think the crowd will be more interested in the World Series games instead of the hockey. PC has struggled under Leaman with BU going 0-1-3 at Agganis Arena and 1-3-4 since winning the National Title against them. If you want to be an elite program, this is a game Providence has to have!

I can't believe I am saying this but have to agree with you  on needing a win tonight. Especially with all the road games this first half they need to show they can win on the road as an elite team is supposed to do.

As long as we're not suffering under the delusion that this makes up for losing the HE title game last year. We need to figure out a way to score on Oettinger. He seems to have our number.

And stay out of the bloody penalty box.

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

The box is our downfall.....we must stay out for the team to win

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Any online stream? Went to the BU site, but the Watchstadium.com just has a blank screen...game about to start

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Friars take a lead .58 into the game on a fluke goal by Dugan. Unfortunately the penalties keep coming as Friars take 2 penalties soon after that second coming with 24secs left on the first. So much for staying out of the box.

First penalty and short 5 on 3 were killed.

Now trying to kill rest of second penalty.

Second penalty killed

Tyce Thompson with a penalty around 6 min mark. Friars kill that.

End of 1, Friars up 1-0, 3 penalties on them, 5 shots on goal...BU no penalties 4 shots on goal

Friars with 2 goals in second, 3-0 after two periods, outshooting BU 22 - 9 in game

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Start of third with teams skating 4 on 4 as there were penalties on both teams at end of second. Duhaime with his second 42 seconds in go up 4-0

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Friars with 2 goals in third to close this one out, 5-0

Outshoot BU 39 -16

Hawkey with 10th career shutout

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

BU is in for a long season.....we should not take much from this win, no competition at all and we still land in the box.....time to step up coach this must stop

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

That was a nice win. Freshmen stepped up, d and Hawkey were great, power play was effective. Too many penalties is the one negative...

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Was in attendance for game last night. Strong showing. Nice rebound from tying lowly Sacred Heart. Just about everything was clicking except the penalties problem.

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Good win over BU...got to beat the bottom feeders this year if you are going to compete with the powerhouse called UMass!

It is interesting that the freshman who was the most hyped has been the biggest disappointment in the group as he has looked tentative and hasn't shown off his elite talent yet.

Hawkey has quietly become the rock in the back for the Friars and needs to continue to play at an elite level.

Holy Cross has been struggling at the goalie position so if the normal starter (Nixon) isn't back, could be a slaughter in Worcester.
