Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

I feel that being disciplined and playing smart is ultimately up to the players. Repeatedly taking penalties and putting your team in a rough spot is selfish when it happens more than just taking the necessary penalty here and there. Hopefully the Friars will get it together sooner rather than later because it will bite them when they play teams that can score. I read in a book once that giving quality teams the opportunity to play with the man advantage often results in them scoring more goals than you (which is bad when they add up the score at the end of the game). :p

Remember the good old days (1999 until Pooley left to go have a more pleasant career) when PC would routinely lead the league in penalties - too many of them being outrageously stupid - and we'd all just shrug and make fun of UNH fans for complaining all the time? Good times.
Now we commit too many penalties and it's something that needs to be fixed.

It can be corrected. Ideally, place the miscreants on the pines. Unfortunately, Leaman does not have the depth for this option. However, he can still limit the ice time of the culprits.

It will be interesting to see who sits on Saturday if O'Brien is back in the line up as he expects to be.

Easy win this weekend coming vs. the Cross. Discuss among yourselves. :p

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

I remember when I started attending Friars games a year or two before the championship, it always seemed like the team had an excess of players, and I could tell who was who off the ice when they were a scratch for the game. Besides goalies, what've they got now like 1 or 2 guys that don't play?

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

The last time these two teams played each other. A poor Hoy Cross team beat a very good Providence squad 2-1.

This is a less talented Holy Cross team playing with a backup freshman goalie with a 0-4 with a 5.34 GAA and a .804 save percentage.

I get the impression that when O'Brien starts scoring, he's going to go on an almighty tear and make up for lost time.

Friars should not look past this team or any team as Leaman mentioned on his Hockey show. Look they just managed to get a tie against AH Sacred Heart. They are also playing in HC's bandbox arena. Yea should be an easy in and out win but we'll see. Wonder if Gabe will be in goal for this one?

I agree you can't look past them but that goalie has been horrible since stepping on the ice at Holy Cross.

I'm a fan of rotating goalies as much as we can. I'm not super worried about Hawkey getting worn out, but I do like to see the back up get some time.

I agree about rotating goalies but this is a one game weekend so I like to see Hawkey get the game since next week's series against UMass (probably the second best team in HE right now) is HUGE.

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

BC remains an o-fer with loss to Merrimack last night...UCONN wins on road at Vermont....Maine beats Lowell at home...what is happening in this league

Take nothing for granted, there is no sure W in college hockey,
The Cross plays well in their bandbox, and actually they are scoring goals at a better rate than the friars.

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

So far it's been a struggle in the Hart center...Logan says the place is full, standing room only, 2 deep....

1-0 Friars with 7:22 to go in second....

That's how second ends as Friars cannot take advantage of 2 more PPs...

Mirageas scores his first of the year put Friars up 2-0

Then take more penalties to give HC hope

Thanks to Hawkey keep the Crusaders off the board..

Duhaime with open net goal...3-0

62 seconds left HC player runs O'Brien into the boards for a penalty...and O'Brien goes right off the ice to locker room..

Final 3-0

Berard and Leaman have some words at the end...not sure if there were any handshakes..
