Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

According to this link, the Friars will be (dancing), skating.

https://t.co/gUE54nGyjR

Hope the link works, haven't tried that before.

Yes which in conjunction with the basketballs bid will make it 5 straight duel bids which ties Michigan for the longest consecutive streak of duel bids

There is something ironic there. Michigan is like 11 times the size of Providence. I also think it funny in the Merrimack thread they say all sorts of things to defend themselves when in essence they really need to say hey basically follow PC’s blueprint, we aren’t that much different. If you average out PC’s NCAA bids over the time since they got Mullaney to coach basketball and Eccleston to coach hockey they’ve averaged a basketball bid every 3 years and a hockey bid every 5 years.

But Merrimack is a Division 2 school so a little bit different in terms of funding in the other sports.

And that will also make PC the ONLY DIV 1 school to have 5 straight duel bids in the last 5 years, correct?

Correct

This year I looked quick looks like PC will be joined by Michigan and Ohio State ( by and large this duel bid is A Big Ten thing—I think it’s been done around 80 times of that about 50 by Big Ten. PC has done it 9 times all time). NOtre Dame had a 2 year streak broken when the basketball team went to the NIT, Michigan and Ohio State have the 2nd longest current streak now, 1.

But Merrimack is a Division 2 school so a little bit different in terms of funding in the other sports.

Yeah it’s true but my sense they want Div 1 at some point, maybe allure that has led to increase in Div 1 teams money like the March Madness money (see Bryant). They also would have a football issue as part of the funding. Maybe biggest difference ultimately is PC laid down it’s Division stakes 60 years ago in easier times to build a foundation.

I don't care about individual honors, but lots of Bryson, Foley, and Hawkey in the end of season Hockey East awards. That's fun to see.

As well as Brian Pinho for Best Defensive Forward. That award has gone to a Friar 4 of the last 6 years. Two of those players are with the Bruins this year, hope that is a good omen for Brian. Two of those award winners played in the National Championship game in 2015, hope that is a good omen too!

Actually Brian started in that National Championship game as well - that makes 3, (along with Acciari and Mauermann)

Ah, almost forgot about Pinho. That might irritate someone around here.

Oh more defensive awards...all that defense has really helped the last two years in the NCAA Tournament where PC has scored one goal in their last eight periods. PC in their last 9 periods at the Hockey East semifinals have scored two goals and three goals in the last 12 periods at the Hockey East semis.

PC hasn't won a Hockey East semifinal under Leaman and haven't won an NCAA game since that national title. Nate's career postseason record is 5-4 in the NCAA Tournament and four of those wins were the national title year.

Re: Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

Can't figure out what there is to complain about with our coach given these overall results:

Nate Leaman's Coaching Record - Last Five Seasons @ PC to 3/15/18
NCAA
Season W L T Win % W L
2017/18** 22 10 4 66.7% TBD TBD
2016/17 22 12 5 62.8% 0 1
2015/16 27 7 4 76.3% 0 1
2014/15 26 13 2 65.9% 4 0
2013/14 22 11 6 64.1% 1 1
Total 119 53 21 67.1% 5 3 62.5%

** Season in progress
In PC hockey history going back to 1955 I only found two individual seasons where the win % was greater than the average of these current five years. I think we should relish this unprecedented string of success instead of trying to figure out some flaw in an individual statistic here or there. What is that all about, I don't get it.

In D1 hockey, (except in a conference that doesn't have all teams participate in their end of season tournament where a team left out could end the year with a win), every team ends their season with a loss except the National Champion. Does any other team have a fan on their forum thread that is so critical of the final loss, especially if it occurs in the NCAA tournament? A 62.5% win percent in the NCAA's is pretty impressive to me.

Re: Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

Sorry, the Excel format did not convert too well. The overall win % for the past five years is 67.1% an the NCAA win percent for this period is 62.5%

I've said it before, I'll say it again:
The only two problems I have is that this team does not get the fan support they have earned and that we can't buy a win in the HE semi's.

Re: Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

Leaman will also keep pace with bball coach Cooley with 5th NCAA tourney in a row...doubt we've seen that from any former Friar coach..

What's the record of the Friday late game winner getting the win on Saturday night? That's what PC/NU winner face.

I keep our negative nancy poster on block, just can't take his non-sensical junk

You are right on both accounts there. As for me, I am a proud Friar hockey fan and when they make it to Boston, I'm there to support them.

Re: Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

Funny moment on Twitter when the HE account gave Casey Fitzgerald Pinho's Defensive Forward award and then gave Pinho the Defensive defense man award. Whoops.

We're 0-4 in the semis with Leaman as coach and everyone is picking NU to win tonight. So, we have that going for us.

..everywhere i've read, they have picked PC to win the gm & HE.. and why not. Until NU can solve the Friars, PC has to be the favorite.

The two podcasts I've listened had NU as the favorite. Everyone thinks it's going to be World War III however.

Until PC can win a semi-final game, I'm cautious about being too optimistic here.
