Providence College on the road to Tampa

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Yes, great recruiting at PC, but mass exodus will be coming. Just not enough PT for the many. " Gimme the ball coach, I wanna shoot" :)

They can do many things so it will be interesting to see if Montreal will be happy with a prospect riding the pine...

Not really. First he was a late draft choice, essentially a flyer who promptly suffered a major injury and will basically be rehabbing. He is already older as you note then most prized Draft picks. They are not going to rehab him on their dime. And where this happen. This would be his last year before he ages out of juniors. He certainly is not AHL ready so the ECHL?

My guess is he works to get better/rehab. Ellis gets the bulk of 1st semester with him getting the lead in a rotation early in 2nd semester. However I don't see him as the workhorse Gillies was and more likely to wear down. Hawkey gets his chances and if he is hotter come playoff then time comes his way

Next year might present more of an issue if he is healthy and Ellis was the hot goalie down the stretch. If I was looking for a hint something is amiss I would see if Leaman recruits Ellis' replacement soon and while he is expected in Sept '17 he could arrive Sept '16

Did I say anything was amiss? Leaman's track record with Union is to have a workhorse goalie so we will see what happens...but it is a question to ask.

Remember PC had LaPlante and he quit the team after sitting out a year because Gillies was coming

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Since the defense has been in flux all season...how would we rate them?

1. Walman
2. McKenzie
3. Gilmour or Parisi (I don't see much difference between the two)
4. Gilmour or Parisi
5. Desharnis
6. Monk
7. Florentino

Incomplete on Ruggiero and Reed

I think Florentino has been struggling mightily on defense getting turned the wrong way and giving up breakaways/prime scoring opportunities with turnovers.

Hey, it is a long two weeks so let's get some discussion

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Florentino is just fine
Best top 5 in the league
Alphabetical
Florentino
Gilmour
McKenzie
Parisi
Walman.

Least of PC's worries, and they are playing great, no natl champ blues, is the d corps

good news is, you used commas.

the bad news is, you used commas :D

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

I can settle this whole Defense Debate based on some serious science and careful review of playing time, stats and tendencies.

1. Jake Walman- my binky since last season. I love his game, he's my favorite player and his Mom is 12 on a scale of 1-10.
2. Florentino- From West Roxbury. Enough said! :) My second favorite player on the team after Walman.
3. Desharnis- You can't coach size. He's a monster who will crush people once he gets his feet wet. No man-crush yet but I could see it happening in the future.
4. Monk- We have a player named Monk playing for the Friars. That's destiny!!! The stars are starting to align, he's gonna be good!
5. Parisi/Gilmour- flip a coin. I did. Four times and it came out for each player twice...I dare not flip again. That's bad juju.

The Friars are #2 in the country and they seem to be taking this season in stride without believing their own press clippings. Life is good and I'm enjoying the ride. They can score goals and the defense is pretty solid. What's not to like? :)

BTW If Jake's Mom and I do get married, I'm willing to change my name. Just sayin. :p

I guess your coin isn't like the Patriots coin

Another reason to like Walman...

If we want to be concerned about anything, the PK is meh. That's pretty much it.
Oh and the students need to be told that hockey games aren't 40 minutes long.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

I was skeptical the first time I saw Jake Walman, but he's really improved a ton and now he's quite fun to watch.

I have a ticket for the BU game for sale, by the way.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

It stinks not having a game this weekend. Hope they don't come out flat against BU next weekend.

Barring Chestnut Hill College jumping PC in the rankings, PC should be number 1 in the nation on Friday night as North Dakota lost to Wisconsin on Friday.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Would not be surprised to see the Eagles jump over the Friars after 3 shutout victories. Demko is having an All-American season so far in the early going with some amazing stats.

I see BU's captain is back having played this weekend against NU. They'll be coming in looking for redemption on Friday. Now will Quinn get the bus out early so they make it to Providence on time :) (6pm start folks, don't forget).

And will the students stick around for 3 periods with the early start
