Providence College on the road to Tampa

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

If PC and BC tie in points, they will be co-champs with BC getting the #1 seed for playoffs.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Does Deraney have pictures on everyone in the Athletic Dept.? I hate to commit Westie on Westie crime here but I think the women's program can't get any worse. Cav et al. What gives? When do they get a new coach for the Lady Friars? Wow they are having a terrible season!!!

Funny you should bring this up in the women's forum they have a thread dedicated to coaches at risk, before it went a bit off kilter many followers of the women's game wonder the same as you. You would also notice a bit of that discussion in the seldom used

While the men's programs have performed well in the past 5 years especially the hockey team, the whole women's program is a cesspool with the exception of the cross country program and possibly an improving soccer team. Deraney in fact may have cover from the cluster #%&@ that is the women's basketball team. I have heard they pay Robinson as much if not more than Leaman

This may scare you, the women's hockey team almost doubled their wins this year and while none of the past season are good it was their best year since 12-13. My guess is in a way Deraney does have the equivalent of pictures by being the good soldier, a good ambassador for PC and his program for years. He had the smallest roster to work with in Hockey East and has had 18 skaters in exactly 3 games over the past 2 years

You might also go read the Union thread on the women's side and find the link to a newspaper article about why they keep their women's coach. In the way we seem to have a bit of a link to Union it might apply to the whole Providence women's program.

Then again maybe as he did 5 years ago when he railed on the the job Army and Davis did he could write about this lack of success, in fact he could probably just write about all of RI D1 women's programs as I believe Brown and URI's women programs suck also.

The biggest reason the traditional women's programs have struggled is BC and BU programs getting all the top recruits. BU didn't even have a program 15 years ago.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

So everyone is pretty much assuming that we can sweep UMASS. Every matchup in Hockey East makes me a bit nervous, and this one is no exception. I"m not sure how to rationalize it since PC Is better in pretty much every category.

It's sad that all I could think of while reading this is Coach Nutty getting his desevrings.

I'm with you that every night is dangerous in HE and that it wouldn't surprise me if they dropped one this weekend to the Zoo. I feel that PC should sweep the weekend but I'm not overconfident about it. Looking forward to going Sat.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

One more thing, and I hope you'll all forgive me for this, but it's not a rant. I swear to Roboshark.

It is getting much more difficult to go to these games. I've been the Coffin once this year (the second game against OSU) and aside from the loss at UML and tie at BU, I've had to watch this team over other school's streaming services. Part of this is the fact that my wife and I have a small person to take care of who has to be in bed by 7. And I work until 6PM on weekdays. The other part is that games keeps selling out.
But that's a good thing, because we might finally be seeing people in this area come around to how great this team is. I want to build a statue of Nate Leaman at some point, because this program did a complete 180 between the end of the Pooley era and winning a National Championship. I NEVER thought we'd see that. He made us all look happily stupid.

For comparison, look at the Maine and UNH fan threads right now. Look at Northeastern on any day. Even look at UML - and their program turned around even quicker than ours did - after a tough loss.

Omg you are an astute observer of hockey. I learn so much from your posts!!!

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

4 - 1 Final another win now we need a sweep and hope Lowell can win Saturday

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Play Hawkey on Saturday night as losing won't matter for Hockey East seeding as they are stuck as the two seed. Might need Hawkey to win a Hockey East or NCAA game in case of a wake up call goalie change or an injury to Ellis.

For once, I agree with you

You play Hawkey tonight but its because he is a talented goalie and you are right he needs experience so in case of "emergency" you can call on him.

However we are playing for something. First with Lowell's help we have a chance to at least get a share of the title---something we have never done. Second we are playing for Pairwise seating. We still could get a #1 seeding in the NCAA's, a lose to UMass puts quite a damper on it. The senior class is looking to be the winningest group in school history. They are 2 wins behind the Kleinendorst/Velischek led '83 group and the '84 Gator/Taylor class, its the Army/Rooney/Taglianetti '85 group they can only catch if they keep winning as they are 8 away

This will be PC's first sub 10 loss team since '71-72 and they only played 24 games. Most PC can lose from here out is 4.

I would suspect Behling plays, most likely over Hennessey

Oh and a win tonight makes PC 8-0 in Feb. the 10-11 team won 8 all year, the 08-09 only 7 all year.

6-0. Not only Hawkey, but also Leahy playing. 5 goalies is in this game.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

With a tip of the hat to UML

Norm and Leaman just trading off winning things first. By that logic, which I will now subscribe till proven wrong, you guys win the HE tourni and we win the NCAAs. *Crossing of fingers intensifies
