They are staking out the Men's Room hoping to catch the pervert

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I expect at least a split from our Friars this weekend. They have been competitive thus far and UMass should provide a good test for PC this weekend. It will be interesting to see how the Friars play on the bigger sheet at Amherst. If history is a guide then the Friars should do better at home.

Some (future) good news. Incoming recruit Craig Wyszomirski the d-man from the Gunnery. Was listed in the Players To Watch rankings of the NHL Central Scouting's first list for the 2011 draft. He's also listed as a possible high second rounder in a mock draft per this website ( I know a little early for a mock draft - but they do it.)

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I remember the days before the coach Army era when fans actually cared if the Friars has a game coming up.
Bobby Driscoll must not be the "hockey guy" that he claimed to be.

I have to admit that I had high hopes that the men's hockey program was going to be in good hands when he first came on the scene after LABELING HIMSELF a "hockey guy".

Boy did I misread that situation. Zero interest would be too strong but it's safe to say that PC hockey has generated little to no buzz this season. Even UMass Amherst fans seem to be ho-hum about this weekend's match up with the Friars as no one is saying a word about it.

Sad.

The Friar Faithful/Student section is planning a halloween costume night. Should be fun. I know a lot of people who are planning on going. Hopefully we'll be just as crazy as the NU game. We're also planning a blackout for the Merrimack game...but attendance at UVM will probably be around zero as it's the first bball game of the season at the same time.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

The biggest change I have seen this year is that someone has got to the Providence Journal and actually got some decent articles in the paper.....now they have to get the TV stations and a little talk radio on board even if its only a quick radio spot 1 day a week as long as its the same time every week......could be a coach or player or even the AD but a voice connected with the college scene, bring Brown and even URI's club team into the station and push the fun of hockey

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Has anyone considered the correlation between the disapperance of Friarboy, the dalmation mascot and the downturn of the program? Could be a bad karma kind of a thing going on here.

When I have more time I'll answer more fully. However I think it is pretty clear Driscoll is hamstrung by circumstances and his "bosses".

For now I am off to see the women play.....they have a big game tonight vs BU. I'll make sure though any injury reports I hear second hand get cleared through the all knowing Wizard of Oz. I would wish though he would have given us the complete medical wrap up. I hear Cross is still feeling the affects of the hit he took from the NU game.

Been going for almost 30 years. Good game though. Lacasse is a monster. Bacon has become a force this year. Wishfully some of that stepping up and scoring goals would rub off on her high school classmate who seems locked in a slump.

Second Friday in a row those men's and women's game parallelled each other. Last week they both gave up leads.went to OT and lost. This time they fought into OT and ended up with a tie.

For the men sounds like some of the seniors did step up last night to get the tie. From what I heard O'Connor had a real good game and MacKinnon has started to get the scoring touch going.

Still waiting for a certain someone to give the injury update on Cross sounds like he missed something. Also I noticed Alex wasn't in the lineup either, didn't someone assure us he'd be back in the lineup this week?

He injured his ankle and will be back vs U Mass this weekend.

Listened to the game on friars.com. Team did play well, giving up the tieing goal late in the 3rd on a power play was tough though. Have to learn how to close out these games. Both Cross and AV are banged up still and could not play last night. Mackinnon and O'Connor did play well, also the frosh Shamnski seem to more then hold his own. Hope they can pull out a win tonight and get a 3 point weekend.

They have video highlights on the hockey east website:

Played fairly well tonite but too many penalties......what Alex was thinking on goal 2 is unknown but part of the lack of discipline the whole team displayed.....as a whole they look good.....rate them a B+ for the game, could be higher with lees box time.....lets see what happens when they play the big boys.....all in all a good weekend

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Special teams was awesome.2 for 4 on the PP. 7 for 8 on the PK. thank you, Alex Beaudry.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I tried watching the game on Cox3 but the quality of the broadcast was so horrible, it was impossible to see the puck so I ended up flipping through it on my DVR. Not sure if it's the lighting in Schneider or whatever cameras they are using, but something's definitely not right there. Mike Logan is one of the finest hockey announcers (college or pro) bar none and I love hearing him call a game, but from a technical angle, they're not doing the team any favors by putting that on the air.

Thus, I can't really comment, but clearly it's good to win despite the parade to the penalty box. Umass is winless in 6 games but you've got to get points against them and PC did a nice job this weekend.

One thing that changing the color of the seats did, however -- make the fact that they're empty glaringly obvious on TV. You may not be able to see the puck but you can certainly count the number of fans there! Outside of the student section, you could figure out on two hands how many people were sitting in that half of the arena.

As much as I hate to say this, the UMASS fan in back of us (who acted like they won the Stanley Cup every time the Minutemen scored. Is there a rider in Hockey East that says I have to eternally sit in front the most annoying UMASS fans ever?!??!) was correct. As many times PC went on the PK it could have been much much worse. We need to cut down on stupid penalties. Because as many ticky tack crap calls they made on the Friars last night, there were about 5-10 that SHOULD HAVE BEEN called against PC. Our team song should be "Nothing Is Easy" by Jethro Tull. Too few rock songs with flute solos.
