Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Not go back to hoops for a moment but it seems Ed Cooley (who I do like) and Jim O'Brien (ex BC and Ohio St. coach) are front runners. If O'Brien's baggage with the NCAA isn't a big deal, I think he would be a strong candidate having been successful at BC, won a Big 10 title and taken OSU to the Final Four (though of course it had to be wiped out because of the violations). He's an excellent coach with ties to the region, knows the conference and is probably looking to get back in the game...if being clean isn't going to be a problem (and there is a debate it seems over how much stuff he did), and they can pay him, I like it.

Heard and Read the same thing. I can see Cooley having a decent shot. He's from Providence has been an assistant in the ACC and Big East with BC. The two things that make me a little wary of him are: his style of play. His Fairfield team and the BC teams play/played "ugly". Slow very set oriented offenses. Understand those BC teams won sometimes and made some NCAA tourneys - but just don't know if that style attracts top talent. Also, it is unclear if he can recruit top talent. He's not recruiting Big East level talent at Fairfield, and those BC teams did it with "below the radar" types like Troy Bell. But again, he is by all accounts a good guy and could be a very good coach at PC. O'Brien would scare the crap out of me. He's been totally out of the coaching world for years now. And he was known for some pretty shady stuff at both BC and Ohio State. He's been trying to get back in for years, schools wanted no part of him.

Most hoops fans (including me) want ex-assistant Pat Skerry to be the next coach. We'll see.....

Stop posting here. You are a dope.
Your run on sentences are fun to laugh at and all but the fact that you are functionally illiterate is beyond pathetic!

I know why you love following college hockey so much. The leagues are consisted of young men which is like Christmas morning to a pedophile like you and it's the closest that a dope like you will ever get to college.

I'm sure the Merrimack fans are missing your cheerleading Hokydope. We'll call you when you are needed back in our village.
I was concerned. For a while, this tread has been moving toward rational arguements related to coaching candidates, and the discourse has been, dare I say, mature. But now it's back on track:D

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

ECAC will have Union and Yale for sure, maybe Dartmouth or Cornell.
HE will have BC and MC for sure, maybe UNH or Northeastern.

Looks pretty cut and dry.

The only way UNH doesn't get in is if all conference tournys except for the CCHA are won by teams who won't be in the top 16 of the PWR. The likelyhood of that happening is probably something like less than 1%. So UNH is in. BU and Maine could also get in.

Lets face it the weak ECAC is not going to have more teams than the Hockey East, but even if they did it wouldn't say anything besides the fact that they play easy schedules and beat up on the 4 bottom feeders in the conference. Still aren't going to win a national title for a long time.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

ECAC wil have at least as many and maybe more in NCAA tournament.

Hokyfraud's BS and backtracking are legendary and his latest puffery is no different. You stated that the ECAC will have as many and maybe more in the NCAA tournamentas Hockeyeast. According to you it even looks cut and dry.

HE will have BC, Merrimack and UNH for sure.
ECAC will have Yale and Union possibly Dartmouth. (Dartmouth is a hair above BU which could slip in as the fourth team from Hockeyeast)

So in short, it is far from cut and dry as you say AND the ECAC is more likely to only get two teams in the tournament but don't let the truth get in the way of a good story there Hokydud.

kind of hard to say that when yale was num 1 for a long time and union was pretty solid.
cornell can always be in hunt

Simply saying

yale and union in
bc and mc in

If Cornell wins, they are in. If dartmouth wins they are in, if gets to finals, they have a shot

UNH I dont think is in for sure but probably so, no chance for BU/Maine

Could be as many in from ECAC, maybe more. Didnt say probable but maybe.

But if Northeastern wins, they aren't in.

There you go again, wanting to hand out trophies for what happened weeks and months ago.

Let's see where everyone ends up when it really counts in the months of March and April, when the ECAC perennially goes into hibernation mode.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

It's pointless speculating on who makes the NCAA's right now since we could have MASSIVE UPSETS!!!11!!!! (but probably not. Just put hand the trophy to Jerry York and get it over with)

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Hokydope is a toolbox. He talks out of his arse then tries to backtrack when someone calls BS on his blabbering. Just note his recent posts.

He said that the ECAC will put at least as many teams in the NCAA tournament as Hockeyeast AND MAYBE MORE! Right now there will be three teams from HE going to the NCAA's and only two going from the ECAC. Already he's talking ****e about being right if all these upsets happen and he still wants you all to believe that it's "cut and dry".
When called on his BS he's now saying that he didn't say probable, he said maybe.

In truth, he said it would happen and we have his quote to prove it so he can't back out of it when it doesn't work out yet again!!!
This clown is too stupid to realize that we can just scroll down when we want to revisit his pearls of stupidity. He's got no object permanency like a small child or a dog when you pretend throw a ball!!! Sad when you think about it.

Some troll in order to spread humor and he trolls to show us that mothers and sons should NEVER mate!!!

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

For all Friar basketball fans, according to the projo, it appears that Ed Cooley is the only candidate that PC is focusing on.

How does that grab you? Pathetic, if true, as far as I'm concerned.

Just saw this on ESPN -- http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...224572/taking-stock-coaching-carousel-chatter

Cooley is an incredible success story in Rhode Island, coming from poor background and playing at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., before going on to be a successful assistant coach at Boston College and now coming off a MAAC regular-season title at Fairfield. Providence needs a personality like Cooley to rally the Friar faithful. He can also coach. Winning the MAAC is no easy chore. This would be a quality move for the Friars.

Personally I would be happy with Cooley's hiring. ChrisP may well be right that his style isn't "pretty", yet that doesn't mean much to me since some Big East teams like Pitt never win beauty pageants, and right now PC just needs to get this program relevant again. The guy has produced a winner in the MAAC conference (they beat Colorado St. last night in an exciting NIT game) and has basically won whereever he's gone. I believe he deserves a chance at the next level and with his local/regional background would be the right fit...but that's just me. I don't pretend to know any of the innerworkings of Friar hoops ;)

I wouldn't be too disappointed with Cooley. He would be a very good coach for you guys.

Oh and he was by far BC's best recruiter when he was here.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

At least this time he is looking at coaches that are available and interested......some of the choices last time even I knew would not come here or any other place
