Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

It looked like there were more people on the ice than in the stands and that sucks......this program is in big trouble and Driscol does nothing.....they could at least give away tix to the kid leagues all over the state for starters

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

From what I watched on Cox briefly, the announced attendance of 1144 would only make sense if they counted everyone twice. Maybe three times.

I think 1144 is all of the tickets they give to corporate sponsors, the parents and the seven of us on this board. Since corporate sponsors do not show up...

US had tons of chances as Goaltender kicked everything right out in front but the D kept the US away from the second shots.....Goalie really had a tough time catching the puck.......great series

In the Hockey East weekly release, the list the PC All-Decade team which was announced Saturday. However, they used the Merrimack logo for you. Now even the league is disrespecting you.

Even if one was being positive..... the season was over weeks ago.....

On behalf of the handful or Merrimack fans on the board, please remind your team that their season is already over before next weekend please?;)

At this point respect is something that needs to be re-earned.

We've only been this crappy for two years. If this keeps, then I can understand it, but cripes. Short memories people. Short memories.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

This year marks the first time, ever, in the history of PC hockey that the program has had 4 consecutive losing seasons. At least I am pretty sure that's the case.

Another in this coach's long list of accomplishments.

But the memories of the good times are fading hard and fast. Can't believe it's been almost a decade since the 01 season.

Serious question for PC fans: Is hockey even viable? It seems your AD only cares about the bouncy ball team.

Were the really 1000 people at the Lowell/PC game last Saturday?

If its treated like it is now the simple answer is No!.

The schools who play in Hockey East take this seriously. Instead of hockey PC takes basketball seriously (well they try to). Size wise, alumni base wise, local population wise there is not the support to raise the money to be competitive especially when to get that money you would be taking money from the program you want it to go to.

In fact Saty brought up a couple pages ago the notes from Driscoll (the AD who is often referred to sarcastically as the Hockey Guy here) after a basketball game that the next sports priority is a new soccer/lacrosse field with a track surrounding the field. This will accomodate 9 of PC's 17 programs, all in the Big East. It also frees up the Field Hockey field to be what it was designed to be a Field Hockey stadium (another Big East program), and of course the basketball programs were mentioned in that they were going to have a fund raising drive (headed by the President of the Celtics). So that is 12 programs with a higher profile then the 2 hockey programs and fits the program about the same level as the swim, volleyball and tennis teams, except of course the expense is so much greater.

From the half of the rink shown on TV, it would be pushing it to say there were more than a few hundred souls in the seats. Even if there were a "lot" more on the other side, it's hard to imagine it was what they announced -- more like half. If that.

Agreed.

Right now the gap is widening between PC and the rest of Hockey East. This is not only a last-place team, but they're 10 points back of the 9th place team. It's not even a "lower tier" they're in, they've become an also-ran with nobody next to them in the standings. The poor offensive production is also not something that can be solved overnight, so the struggles are likely going to continue for some time (years?) to come. We might disagree on how much blame needs to go on the coach, but if they're content with losing and the guy's horrible performance, it only reaffirms, to me, how little they care.

In the big picture this program must be losing an awful lot of money. I could see it being axed, honestly, because of the lack of support and attention and everything else -- especially with the budget.

Now, if that's not going to happen, then where is it all going? Like Cav says they can't compete in HE without more support. And if the school doesn't support it, what else can they do? Downgrade it out of Hockey East and start playing Holy Cross and Uconn? If they do that, half of the few people who still go will stop because they won't be seeing the quality of competition they have for decades.

It is a bad situation, and right now I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel in the broader spectrum of where PC hockey is going.
