Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Last nite on the local Fox channel news ole Timmy stated that next year is going to be the big one. All his players are a little on the young side right now and we have some good Junior leadership with a good group coming in NEXT year. So for all you guys who have been doubting the master plan here it is .....wait til next year...... sounds familiar but I am sure its different this time :D :D

Was this an interview that was taped back in September for the upcoming (current) season -- or was it a legitimate NEW interview?

Just remember -- The Buck Stops Here.

:p

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

How about something positive for you guys? Jon Rheault is doing well in the AHL for the Manchester Monarchs.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Things could be worse. At least you're not Minnesota Gopher fans: 20 draft picks on the team, the most of any team in college hockey, and in 7th place WCHA.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

I believe it was a new interview as they talked about Beaudry getting the honors and other current stuff....so "Wait 'til next year"

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Has anyone voted for the PC all decade team on the Hockey East page? Not to be negative, but it is interesting to see the small number of offensive players to pick from on the PC page, compared to some of the other teams.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

I am always amazed during the commercials with coach Amy that the "ultimate goal is to win a hockey east championship"????? This blows my mind, shouldn't the ultimate goal to be to win a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP with a hockey east championship a step along the way?????

I also remember when he came here proclaiming "if we are going to lose games it will be 7-6" well, I for one am still waiting for us to put up 2, 3 or 4 goals nevermind 6 or 7.

Wahoooooo, I am no longer a virgin -- I got negative rep from hockiedopie:D :D :D

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Tell me this is not the way to get the team motivated for the rest of this year.......the coach says we suck !!!!! and he said it on tv

Reality tv! What more can you ask for?

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Are we giving the Catamounts gift baskets to go along with their 4 points, or is the white flag not fully raised yet?

Congrats my friend!

I have a lot of "anonymous"/"purple" feedback. Some gems:

You are bogus
Learn a little about the inside game before you speak
All of the statements you make make no sense
I see plentyoffish.com must have deleted you....get a life!

If it wasn't Hoky do you think Army left them all? :D

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

I’m obviously new to the board, but have been reading for some time and finally felt like saying something. After graduating a few years ago I finally got season tickets this year and make the trip up from the cape for almost every game. I figured for 100 bucks you really can’t go wrong, even with the team most likely residing in the bottom half of the league.

While watching the actual game is the reason I got season tickets, I was also very interested in going to the new Friends of Friars room. Throughout my four years I was able to drag my friends to hockey games by tempting them with 2 dollar gansetts. By senior year it had become a weekly event to attempt the “2 gansett challenge” (finish 2 gansetts between each period) Fast forward to this year when I got the season tickets and found out I would have to pay an additional 100 for entry into the room. After serious thought, I decided to get the passes knowing it was going to the program. The room is amazing and I think it’s a great addition to the rink, but the actual running of the room has made me question the program. My girlfriend and I would usually meet a couple who live in providence at the game but unfortunately one pass meant one person, no other visitors allowed. Then we found out the beer prices went up a dollar and the food for the pre game was ray pizza. I wasn’t expecting free champagne and caviar but I expected a little better. A few weeks ago I had noticed that no one was asking for FOF passes and the room was a bit more crowded then it had been in the past. I was told by one of the bar tenders that someone had complained to city hall that they weren’t allowed in and the room needed to have a permit. I was a little put back that they put all this money into the room and no one thought they may need additional permits? Then came this past alumni weekend, where we assumed there would be some kind of special rate for alumni. I got to the rink early and asked what looked like someone from the athletic department, if there were special rates. She looked at me like I had three heads, and then told me it was normal price and stormed off. Needless to say, out of the 15 friends that had planned to come only 3 actually showed up after finding out they’d have to pay 10 bucks. (as many of you know it was probably half full for the unh game?) Feeling gutsy and angry by the end of the first period I went into FOF and asked a girl, that obviously worked for the athletic department, about the permit situation. I was perfectly friendly with the girl, and basically said I didn’t mind the donation, but expected maybe a bulk email or something explaining what was happening. She seemed aggravated with me from the get go and the conversation didn’t last more than 30 seconds. All she said was that they were working on a permit and it would come in soon. (maybe she didn’t know the season would be over in a month?) Like I said before, I don’t expect or want FOF to become some super private club, but if I’m paying 100 bucks, I at least expect some answers. I’m a young alumni who is willing to spend some money on the hockey program and I’m being treated like crap. Apparently the Athletic Department and Driscoll are content with a half filled rink, a non-existent student section, and ****ed off fans.

Speaking of ****ed off fans, I guess I should talk a little about the team itself. There really isn’t much more to say than what has already been said on the boards. At the beginning of the season I was hesitant to jump on the fire Army bandwagon, mainly because transition years between coaches are never pretty. But, when you hit rock bottom, a couple transition years seem appealing. The one thing I noticed this year more than any other is the obvious player frustration. Granted it’s a young team, but I think the majority of the frustration comes from the coaching staff. I remember sitting in the coffin early in the season v. UMASS, when we were up 3-2 and the game was obviously turning in UMASS’ favor. UMASS tied it up and pc looked like they knew things were about to get out of hand. Army was standing behind the bench talking to no one. I turned to my father and said they need a timeout now. 20 seconds later UMASS scored. A similiar situation happened up at NU, the other team ties the game or goes up by one and all the air goes out of the team with the coaching staff looking dumbfounded. Then there’s this video breakdown that army does between periods? I think something like that is great but the coach just seems disconnected with the team while playing on his laptop. I was happy to see our system make a small shift away from the “throw the puck on net every time you touch it” idea. But as much as I hated putting up 40 shots, losing by a few goals, and giving the opposing goalie “defender of the week” status on HE online, at least we were scoring a bit more. As for the team, I think we have alot of young kids that have some great talent. Do I think the talent we have with the coaching staff we have will propel us to the top ranks of Hockey East next year? Probably not. But I will attempt to stay optimistic.

Speaking of optimism in its blindest form I guess I should give my 2 cents about this hokeydad situation. I’ve been creeping the pc boards for probably about a year now and at first I thought hokeydad made a few good points here and there, and if anything added to an ongoing conversation because of dissimilar viewpoints. I was shocked by peoples personal attacks on him at first, I mean this is a discussion forum, people voice different opinions, there’s no reason to get nasty. At this point I’m starting to realize how people can get to the point of getting kicked off the boards. Sure the kids are young and may have talent but in terms of this season we are terrible, and looking back at Army’s last 5 years we haven’t done much better. It’s unrealistic to avoid discussion about losses and instead dwell on a few wins early in the season or a weekend sweep of two “perennial powerhouses” that are having a less than stellar year.
As for tonight...a win would be nice to see.

Welcome to the club my friend!

Seriously, welcome aboard and thanks for the enlightening post.

Your FOF comments are very interesting to me because one of several reasons my folks stopped going was because of the FOF room. Years ago they (and others) paid a lot more than $100 for a "lifetime" membership to the FOF at the program's beginnings, then at some point the school yanked at it away from all of them and stopped honoring any of that. So much for keeping your fanbase happy, huh?

The way it was run then -- after reading your post, it seems like it's the same clueless group of people now. They ought to be thrilled to pieces a young alumni like yourself who is, as you say, willing to spend money on the program is even there -- given the situation of the team they ought to be happy ANYONE is paying for a ticket. But as you've seen, that's not how it is. The attitude of the people running it is so **** ARROGANT, that it makes it unpleasant.

What you describe, in part, is one of the many reasons why PC is where it's at right now as far as this program goes. For years they acted like they were doing you a favor by opening up the doors -- never mind the music being blasted so loud you couldn't talk to the person next to you, the lack of hot dogs at the concession stands, the lack of toilet paper in the bathrooms, or this FOF situation as it now stands.

Reading your post about the FOF room just made me nod my head, because I (and a lot of people here) have been in that situation before with a representative of the athletic dept. or the administration, and gotten nowhere as well.

They simply don't seem to care. Whether it's fans or alumni -- who they ought to be embracing with open arms more than anyone -- customer service and attention to the fans is the last thing on their list.

Won't be there tonight. I hope to be there when we hit 100. Just hope it's a home game.
