Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

Mario Lucia, Zemgus Girgensons;), Mike Reilly, Jordan Schmalz...Just to name a few

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

Joey Benik, possibly Jimmy Murray.

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

I think Grimaldi will be the top of the pack. Other NTDP players say that he's unbelievable, despite his size and he looked it in his few appearances last year.
An under-the-radar freshman would be MTU prospect Jujhar Khaira (BCHL) who went to Edmonton in the third round.
He's a big kid with a hot stick that will see lots of ice time at Tech.

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

I think Benik will give Grimaldi a run for his money. I think Mike Reilly will have an immediate impact too, but might not get the opportunities right away that Benik and Grimaldi will. Just my $0.02.

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

I think Andy Welinski could be a sleeper on the defensive side of things for UMD this year.

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

I'm thinking Andy Welinski and Austin Farley for UMD... Brady Skjei for the Gophers? Anyone know anything about the the Reilly brothers?

Mike (the youngest, and a defensemen) is the most talented. Smaller in size, but highly skilled. Broke Joey LaLeggia's BCHL record for most pts scored by a defenseman. 4th round pick by Columbus in 2011. Starred at Shattuck before playing in Penticton (BCHL) with his brothers. Had 24g-59a-83pts for Penticton last year.

Of the twins (Connor and Ryan, both forwards), Connor is the more talented of the two. Had 35g-51a-86pts for Penticton last year. Has a lot of offensive upside, but his smaller stature should make him a 4-yr college player.

Ryan will probably see limited ice time his first few years IMO, but should will probably fill a 3rd-4th line and PK role eventually.

Matheson from BC will be in the conversation. Will play top 4 minutes and see power play and possibly pk time. Had a great 2nd half last year after a bit of an adjustment period in the USHL.
