Re: Professional Wrestling Thread: Sign It Before The Stock Plummets Some More

Its lucky the briefcase was still in play.

See, I didn't see Mania, but read about it and followed online. One thing that I'm not getting. For years, WWE has been telling us that the MITB winner had a shot against the champion whenever he wanted it. I'm all for Rollins cashing in and becoming champ, but, he didn't pin Lesnar, he pinned Reigns. At the time, Reigns wasn't champ, and it wasn't a three way dance, so shouldn't Lesnar still have the strap?

He did come out against the champ. He came out early and thus declared it a tripe threat match. Works for me. The whole concept is dumb anyway, but that's wrestling some times. The beauty of it was how they got themselves out of the box. The briefcase issue is done for this year, Reigns was elevated, and Lesnar never was pinned. They got the best of three worlds in one match.

The Ziggler - Bryan match was pretty good.

Re: Professional Wrestling Thread: Sign It Before The Stock Plummets Some More

I put this in the movie thread, also, but just in case someone here doesn't cross over to there:

The Sheik:

Documentary on the Iron Sheik of WWE/F fame. Well done. It is rather frank and doesn't pull punches. Uplifting, incredibly depressing at times, I really recommend this even if you are not into, or never was into, wrestling.

Sidenote: I know Jake The Snake's past, but he still looks worse than what he should look like right now. My God.

Re: Professional Wrestling Thread: Sign It Before The Stock Plummets Some More

Only a few weeks after the death of Verne Gagne, we've lost the American Dream. Dusty Rhodes died this morning at 69. Hundreds of wrestlers took to Twitter today to remember him. I saw one great quote that said something like "If Dusty Rhodes isn't the reason you love wrestling, he's the reason your favorite superstar loves wrestling." He wined & dined with kings & queens, but slept in alleys & dined on pork & beans. The man of the hour...the tower of power...too sweet to be sour. He's the American Dream, Dusty Rhodes. RIP, Dream! :(

I'm not sure the last time there was a Diva segment with multiple "this is awesome" chants, but it happened when Charlotte, Sasha Banks, & Becky Lynch all debuted on Raw this week.

WWE fires Hulk Hogan. Apparently the Hulkster used a word that described the sheriff of Rock Ridge.

Re: Professional Wrestling Thread: Sign It Before The Stock Plummets Some More

WWE currently giving Hulkster the Chris Benoit unperson treatment on the website. All references to him scrubbed. No es bueno.

Obviously this news is 24 hours old, but yesterday we lost one of the best and most well-known heels in the history of wrestling in "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Everyone thinks Hulk Hogan was the one who started the wrestling boom period with the help of Vince McMahon. But pro wrestling is just like superhero movies....the hero is only as good as the villain. And Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon wouldn't have made all that money without Roddy Piper as the man in the black cowboy hat. Besides being one of my favorites when i was a kid. two stories stick out in my head about what a great guy Roddy Piper was.

1. When Ric Flair needed a tag team partner to go against WWF World Tag Team Champions The Spirit Squad in 2006, the fans voted for Piper. After the matches, everyone has to have a physical. And that was when it was discovered that Piper had Hodgkin's lymphoma. He always appreciated the fans for basically saving his life by voting him into that match.

2. Piper was trained by "Judo" Gene LeBell (whose brother Mike originated the LeBell Lock...used by Daniel Bryan). Gene LeBell also trained Ronda Rousey. When Gene wanted to give Ronda the "Rowdy" nickname, she instead called Roddy to ask for his permission to use HIS nickname first. I dig that respect. And that's why Ronda dedicated her fight tonight to the "Rowdy Scot."

Roddy Piper won titles everywhere, including the NWA United States Title and the WWF Intercontinental Title. His epic dog collar match with Greg "The Hammer" Valentine from Starrcade 1983 is stuff of legend. As was his match with Bret Hart from WrestleMania VIII. He was in They Live. He was spoofed on South Park and Simpsons. But most importantly, Roddy Piper loved his family, the fans, and pro wrestling. And there won't be another "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.
