Problems for Ford Field?

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

Does anyone else worry about this?

A) Some people may have already sold them that had the tix in hand. If so, only the original purchaser is being notified. How will they prevent a lot of people that had previously legit seats from walking up and being denied because they are now invalid?

B) Yea, I'm sure scammers out there won't still try to sell the old, invalid tickets.

Unless I'm missing something... this is a big problem. No?

scalping is illegal. plus, why would someone scalp to an event that is still selling empty seats?

caveat emptor.

People will try to profit on the name of the event... Why do you see people asking $150-200 for early season NCAA football tickets when tickets can be had for $45 through the Box Office?

The people selling aren't looking to profit off of experienced fans... They are looking to sell to Joe Six-Pack that just hears "Championship" and "Front Row"....

ticket scalping is not illegal everywhere...in fact most places it is legal  just because the event is taking place in michigan doesn't mean michigan law applies to all ticket transactions involving the FFFF

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

***** EMAIL I RECEIVED TODAY *****

2010 NCAA® Men’s Frozen Four Ticket Holder,
The NCAA® has announced a modified seating plan for the 2010 NCAA® Men’s Frozen Four at Ford Field. A rendering of the modified seating configuration is set forth below. You will receive a new seat location that will be comparable to your original location based on the ticket price and order date recorded on your account. New tickets reflecting the new seating location will be mailed to the original ticket purchaser of record. Ticket holders will receive new tickets printed on commemorative ticket stock in December 2009.
Please destroy your original tickets immediately and do not attempt to resell them in any manner. The original tickets are now void and of no effect, and will not afford entry into the stadium.
Thank you for supporting college athletics and we will see you at the games.
If you have any questions, please contact the Ford Field ticket office at:

what is the rule for frozen four tickets?

what does the posty thingy on our ticket forum read?

if you can buy tickets now at face value from the event, why would you go and buy tickets from a broker/person who has tickets now? even without a mark up?

so from the ncaa's perspective, this is a non issue.

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

If they are really concerned with ticket sales they would re-open the lottery so that all those that did not order originally because of the terrible original configuration could get their priority points under this new and better seating that should have been proposed in the first place. Not saying that it is right but the NCAA probably could add a few thousand more sales.

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

From the back of my ticket from last year:

"Access to the venue listed on the front of this ticket (or substitute venue) by any person other than the original purchaser of this ticket may be denied. If access is denied, no refund of the ticket price will be due."

Take that for what it's worth, but almost every ticket to a major sporting event has something like that on its back. I am not a lawyer, so I don't know how enforceable that is.

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

This is what should've been done from the beginning if they wanted to do a football field FF. This also allows more flexibility with seating configurations, much as they used to do with Final Fours where they'd just keep selling tickets down the field in the upper level so you'd watch over the risers. Sure, the sightlines there were awful but if people want to buy them, why not. I have a feeling now many people will be more impressed with this event. I know a few friends from back home who went to the Final Four there last year and said the sightlines at Ford Field were extremely good, even from the upper deck. With the rink spanning the entire sideline, it looks like the seating will come up close to the rink making sightlines significantly improved. Hopefully I'll have a reason to go check it out this year...

Also, the $79 tickets are new. They used to only be $189, $119, $40.

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

The new configuration is just like Syracuse does for it's Basketball games. A 55,000 Football field becomes a 29,000 basketball court. It is a proven method and the only way to use a football field for hockey or basketball with any decent seating. Syracuse does put in a decent size sideline over the middle of the field because they can leave it for the entire winter. The diagram for FF doesn't seem to add as much there. Greediness certainly won out over smartness in the original concept. They lost lots of ticket sales because of it.

On the bright side some of you have moved a notch past others in priority points and you'll get better seats than before.

Because someone is selling them for cheaper than the official ticket sellers.

Duh mookie.

If you're Joe Schmoe, you don't know about the fact that invalid tickets that have been printed are floating around in circulation. You go on ebay and see a ticket for $50. You go online at ticketmaster and see one for 100$. Save some money says the unaware schmuck... so they buy voided tickets not knowing anything. They'll have face value printed on them. This will look like a good deal, BELOW FACE VALUE the scammers will put as a headline on their ebay auctions.

There will definitely be problems with this.

This is about $$$$. They are going to save a ton of money in bleacher rental and assembly & labor.

They would never have put this "event" in a domed stadium to enable 10,000 more fans to go to the game.

They thought they could draw 70,000....um....they were wrong.

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

So wait, only now, in the face of a total PR disaster, do they start caring about fan experience and sightlines?

The NCAA is selling out the soul of our game.

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

For those of us who vehemently opposed the idea in the first place, I guess this is as good a result as we could expect. I think by most definitions, the event will not be a “failure” (and actually, especially with the new configuration it might be a big success if the right teams make the FFFF), and those who attend will probably enjoy the experience. But unless someone is naïve enough to believe that the sour state of the economy is the sole reason why it didn’t sell like the sponsors and the promoters hoped, I don’t think we’ll see another FF in a football field in the near future.

. . . In a way, this is a big improvement for the hockey purists. Thanks to the lack of sales and the reconfiguration, the sight lines will indeed be much, much better than they would've been. This is a good thing, and a relief, frankly.
Kind of an ironic statement, given that one of the reasons for disappointing sales is that many "hocky purists" decided to skip the event. I guess I’ll get a small sense of satisfaction knowing that my voting with my pocketbook resulted in someone else getting a better view than they otherwise would have gotten.

Regarding the rumor that started this thread, I have no doubt that there was validity to it. When ticket sales were disappointing, it seems quite logical to at least consider moving it to a more suitably sized venue. This seems to be a better alternative, though.

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

This is good news for those who went with the lottery; perhaps the best seats yet. But it will still be very odd to be in a partitioned off dome. However, there will be baseball as well so a great sports weekend is still in sight. Never been to detroit....should be interesting

Re: Problems for Ford Field?

Problems with a FF at ford field... EVERYTHING... City - Not Safe, Building - going to suck... Prices - Town is way expensive... I realize the town may benefit a little from it but unless wisconsin is there i won't be going this year... not trying to watch hockey i don't really care about in a football stadium indoors. WCHA final 5 will be a way better venue this year and if i had to choose one or the other this year i'd def pick St Paul

True, the people that are going to benefit the most are the ones that keep going and plan on going to Frozen Fours on down the road in the future.

Dang, those of us in Minnesota were hoping you'd go the other way on that. :(
