Princeton 2011-2012

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Jeez, what happened against Harvard? I guess that's one to forget.

Check the Harvard thread. I led my post with that exact question. Harvard overwhelmed the Tigers after a so-so first period. Best that Harvard has played in a long, long time. Princeton seemed to tire early in the second period and was never the same after that. Weber had zero support and could not be faulted for what happened. She was left alone on a island. Normally, you guys play us very tough but that wasn't the case today.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Harvard has become a chamber of horrors the last few years. When's the last time Princeton won there? A couple of years ago they played stinko in the playoffs up there.

and the way things stand right now it is very likely that the Tigers will go back to Bright for the first round of the playoffs.

Havard has the inside track on 2nd place. They hold it right now, and all the teams chasing have a harder schedule left other than Darty, but Darty is 3 points in arrears with only four games left.

It is even more unlikely for the tigers to move out of seventh place:

Left is:

2 - Harvard 27......Union, RPI, Yale and Brown
3 - Clarky 26......Princeton, Quinnipiac, Colgate, Cornell
4 - Darty 24.......Union, RPI, Yale and Brown
5 - SLU 24............Princeton, Quinnipiac, Colgate, Cornell
6 - Quinny 22........SLU, Clarkson, Union, RPI
7 - Princeton 18.....SLU, Clarkson, Union, RPI

Based on that the most likely order of finish will be:

Cornell, Harvard, Dartmouth, Clarkson, SLU, Quinnipiac, PRinceton and Colgate/Brown

leading to the following playoff matchups:

Cornell vs Colgate/Brown
Harvard vs Princeton
Dartmouth vs Quinnipiac
Clarkson vs SLU

The only game left on the schedule that concerns me is RPI. Harvard has had problems with the Engineers dating back to the '08-'09 season and even though RPI is having an off year, they still jumped out to a 3-0 lead at Bright a few weeks ago before we came back to win. In their building, I would expect it will more of the same.

It does look like we'll see Princeton again in the playoffs. If so, the Crimson need to forget about yesterday. I'm sure the Tigers won't forget anytime soon and that makes them dangerous in a rematch.

Yeah, reminds me of Patriots-Jets in 2010.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Not to pile on your thread with Crimson posters but let's see, your team beat Northeastern, beat and tied with Dartmouth whereas Harvard split, and had a better goal differential against Cornell than we had; you split with us and were leading the rematch at one point, so no, we'd better not take your team lightly in the ECAC tournament....

Go to the game(s). Stand up and be a M A N I A C. From the get-go. Remind your players that they must N E V E R, N E V E R, N E V E R, NEVER, never give in. KEEP reminding them. Develop YOUR OWN cheers. Cheer like a M A N I A C- scratch, claw, bite, jump up and down (in effect). Never be passive/still. Always cheer positively. Cheer, single out, LOUDLY, each and every extra effort- "Did you see that, Dempsey just WOULDN'T let Fortino past! Yay!". Fans are passive. Wasn't always so. We want our players to leave it ALL on the ice, as they say, yet we don't also leave it ALL in the rink. LEAVE IT ALL IN THE RINK. You may feel like a fool. Be a fool for your team. Is OK- MORE THAN OK! It works/helps. Gets others on THEIR feet, etc. BE the change you want in the world. Try it, you'll like it!

Fantastic advice. I'll do my best...I promise, just have to figure out how to get past the arena staffers screening for proper "connections" to the sport. ;)

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Huh? Not sure what you mean. Actually, what are you talking about?
Proper 'connections'?

Come back.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

So a lousy weekend for Princeton, scoring one goal in two games, which makes four goals in the last four games. This is a very broken record, but this team just can't score, and hasn't had a consistent scorer since Gretchen Anderson graduated eight years ago. Had lots of scoring opportunities against both Clarky and St. Lawrence, but couldn't convert except the one time. Today I noticed a lack of discipline--passes that were more dumps-and-a-prayer than passes, players clotted together in one section of the ice (at one point, four of the five skaters were surrounding a puck stuck against the boards) and players just taking the puck and going for it, which seemed the best solution given the overall lack of any kind of offensive scheme. This has got to be disheartening for Rachel Weber, who is having a great season (the recent Harvard game aside); it's like a pitcher who gets no run support.

How about the third period power play where the first squad that had SLU pinned in their own end for a whole 2 minutes in the second never saw the ice till there was less than 30 seconds left ? That was just a poor choice and another lost opportunity.

I've never understood Kampersal's philosophy on the power play, and the team has never had a good one. Yesterday he had Stadnyk on the point, with two players in the face-off circles and two in the slot. That could work, but he should have Pankowski on the point, who has the most blistering shot on the team. There were too many blocked slap shots.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Princeton closes out their home season (unless, through a series of miracles, it's them and Brown in the ECAC finals) with a dominating 3-0 win over Union. Senior day, and glad to see Rachel Weber get the save and go out in style. No seniors scored goals, but had assists on each of the three. Festive atmosphere on the ice after the game, as the team had a skate-around and friends and family milled about, getting pictures. Mrs. DiCesare started a new tradition--she took down the road jerseys hanging on the balcony that saluted the seniors and each mother wore that of her daughter's. Let's hope the good vibes continue up in Cambridge!

Congrats indeed to Miss Elvin; a brilliant, humorous, selfless, and wonderful young woman who will likely astound us with some great feat to the betterment of humanity in the not too distant future.

For the unaware, the Pyne Prize is no garden variety award. It recoginizes achievement of the first order and is the highest prize given each year to a Princeton undergraduate. It is more difficult to attain than a Rhodes Scholarship. Past winners include Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, MIT professor and genome pioneer Eric Lander, and former US Senator Paul Sarbanes. Congratulations to Ms. Elvin on a wonderful honor.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

The Baker Rink Irregulars have met and chosen the winners for this year's awards. They are highly unofficial and incredibly suspect.

MVP: Rachel Weber. Easy call. This season would have been a disaster without her; probably wouldn't have made the playoffs at all.

Rookie of the Year: Ali Pankowski. Already my new favorite player. Love her work on the power play; I think she has the team's heaviest shot.

Most unsung: Heather Landry. Filled in on the top line went Mucha went down to injury. Not a lot of points, but always working hard on offense.

Most improved: Kelly Cooke. When Kelly was a freshman, I thought she would be a big scorer, but she could disappear in some games. This year she re-emerged, always around the puck.

Pearce Award for Playing Through Pain: Denna Laing. Just read this week that she was in sling during the last week of practice, but ended up scoring two goals and an assist against Harvard in the playoffs.

Perfect Attendance Award (did not miss a game for any reason in their entire four-year careers): Julie Johnson, Paula Romanchuk, Charissa Stadnyk

Best Pony-Tail: Ali Pankowski. It goes below the bottom of her number!
