Princeton 2011-2012

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

When was the last time they had a male assistant coach on the staff?

They have one now, the goalie coach, John Zdunkiewicz. All their goalie coaches have been male. Before that was Francois Bourbeau, before him was Craig Fiander. I believe they've all been volunteers, so I suppose technically they're not on staff.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Excellent win by the Tigers tonight over Northeastern. To get four goals (the fifth was an empty-netter) against Schelling in their first game of the season was quite an accomplishment. The Butler-Laing-Mucha line looks to be a monster this year--Butler had some awesome moves and Laing really showed some hustle. A nice harbinger for the season to come.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

As good as Princeton played yesterday, they played lousy today against Niagara. The first period was strong, and they took a 1-0 lead, but after the first intermission things fell apart. The old bugaboo about Princeton being unable to put good back-to-back efforts together strikes again. I wonder if it's a conditioning thing, as their legs looked tired. And the power play was dreadful. Niagara's power play was terrific--Kampersal should have told his charges to just do what the Purple Eagles do.

According to the box score, Princeton outshout Niagara 28-19, including 12-2 in the 3rd period.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Just saw the most one-sided 1-0 game I think I'll ever see. Princeton outshot 39-9 and pretty much controlled the action throughout. But they only got one goal, a second-period power play goal from Olivia Mucha. Tense at the end, as Brown was skating two extra (a pulled goalie and a penalty on Laing) for about 45 seconds, but Weber maintained the shutout. Amy Bourbeau got a nice hand on her return to Baker Rink.

Sounds a lot like a game vs Mercyhurst years ago. That one ended with a blast from Agosta. Amy has seen a couple of these before.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Princeton lit the lamp tonight, getting 7 against Yale. I did see something I've never seen before--a goal came under video review (it was a goal by Yale that was then disallowed). I didn't even know anything was set up for review in Baker Rink, but it was pointed out to me that there was a camera hanging above each goal. But before that I didn't even there was review in NCAA women's hockey. Is that how it is in the other conferences?

I recall reading or hearing sometime last season that this was new regulation. Not sure when it started. I did see a couple of reviews last year at various locales.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Hello fans of Princeton Hockey-

I just wanted to quickly touch base with you in regards to the Goals For Good project. In short, it's a competitive goal-a-thon between every team in the ECAC, and every team has partnered with a charity in close relation to their team, school, and or community. We're currently looking for more prizes, but as of now, there is $1,000 on the line going to the local food cupboard of the team that raises the most money. Please check out www.goalsforgood.org to learn more and support your team and their charity by way of their goals and wins.

Thank you,
Kevin McNamara

There was a goal reviewed at the UNH - UVM game.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Despite the loss, I was pleased with the Tigers hanging in against an obviously superior Cornell team. We were out shot over 2 to 1, but could have won the game. Cornell was susceptible to the breakaway--Princeton had at least four, but couldn't convert on any of them. Rachel Weber made some spectacular saves, but the two Big Red goals (the third was an empty-netter) were soft. It was a little like David and Goliath out there, but this time Goliath won, but if Princeton can play like that against every opponent they won't lose again this year. Unfortunately, they tend to play to the level of the competition.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

A good loss last night, but a horrible loss today. There's no way you can blow a 3-0 lead like they did tonight, but they did it. I'm not sure what happened--have to give credit to Colgate for making adjustments, but the Tigers penalty kill was off--giving up two goals is not usual. If you would have told me Colgate would have gotten six goals in a game against the Tigers I would have said you were nuts.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Where to eat at Princeton after Saturday's 4:00 pm Harvard game? Coming in from Pennsylvania and bringing a couple high school guys to give them a taste of the campus. Where should we get a bite after the game so they can go where students would go rather than where two old geezers would stumble into?

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Wow it's been so long since I posted, I needed to search my email to find my password and sign-in name. Here are a few places you might want to check out in
Princeton. The first is Conte's and it is very low keyed but by far a favorite with the locals and students. Winberie's is right downtown across from the campus and along standing Princeton restaurant/tavern. Hope that helps. If you are staying over, bid on a room at Priceline, you will be able to get a great room most likely for
around 50-55 dollars 2 1/2 to 3 star hotel.

Conte's. (339 Witherspoon Street, Princeton; 609.921.8041)
Neighborhood pizzeria with a thin, crispy crust.
Good spot to celebrate with the team over beer and pizza. Expect long waits during peak times.

Winberie's Restaurant and Bar. (1 Palmer Square East, Princeton; 609.921.0700)
The food is what you expect at a carve-your-name-in-the-table bar.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

tfmffan, thank you, that's perfect. Conte's sounds like the equivalent of the Cottage Inn in Ann Arbor. I'm up for that.

BTW, till I looked at the campus map, I never knew the NJT station is right next to Hobey's house. If I'd realized that all those years I lived in NYC, I'd have wasted my youth (ok, middle age) at Princeton hockey games for sure.

Article on Butler, Laing and Mucha in the Prince: http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/2011/12/15/29688/

Disturbed to read that Mucha's injury is "season-ending." Argh!
Enjoyed the article; thanks for posting the link.

Princeton fans interested in further info on the OSU series should check out the WCHA III thread. My "Unofficial Three Stars" are now posted for both games. Lots of Tigers deserved and received mentions.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Tigers play their best game of the year against Harvard tonight, getting a 20-save shutout from Weber, and two goals by Butler. They were firing on all cylinders--everyone hustled. The test is whether they have any gas left for Dartmouth tomorrow to get them further up the standings.

I recall about a year or so ago, a 3-10 Princeton going on a run of something like 9 wins in a row and winning 14 out of 16 games down the stretch . Can they do that again ?.
