Princeton 2011-2012

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

I recall about a year or so ago, a 3-10 Princeton going on a run of something like 9 wins in a row and winning 14 out of 16 games down the stretch . Can they do that again ?.

They can if Rachel Weber continues to play well. They could use a little more firepower on offense, especially with Olivia Mucha out for the season. But Heather Landry replaced her on the first line and added a couple of assists.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Great win over the Bay State Ivy last night! Terrific!

Congratulations!

Wondering how game against (my) Green goes- started at 4 PM?
Can't find any stats.

Win over Green might lead some of us to perhaps (cautiously) believe Tigers may have something here.
All certainly aware of Weber, nonetheless!

As you know, so often in the past high expectations haven't 'panned' out for Old Nassau in women's ice hockey.

But...Go Green Go!

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Wow, what an exciting game! Green and Tigers tie at 2-2. Princeton got on the board first with a goal by Gabie Figueroa in the first. Kelly Foley (what a pleasure/pain it was to watch her--the best player on the ice) tied it on a beautiful shot in the second.

It looked like the Tigers would pull it out when they scored with 8:56 to go, a tip-in by Leahy off a booming PP slapshot by Pankowski. But a big defensive breakdown with under three minutes left--somehow Reagan Fischer was all alone behind the D and scored on a breakaway.

The overtime was insane--both teams had penalties called on them, both had great chances, the game ended with the puck bouncing around right in front of the Dartmouth goal. Both goalies were great, and it was a big crowd. The best of college women's hockey.

Nice! Thanks!

Noble effort by the Tigers' D and goaltender Weber, to get out shot 39-14 but only lose 1-nil.

I was at both PrInceton-Cornell games, and Princeton's goalie was the only reason they were in the game both times. Cornell's 1600 fans in attendance appreciated both their teams efforts to score and the goalie's valiant play to keep the puck out of the net. There was (literally) a 2+ minute sustained forecheck without a whistle and I believe 8 shots (not to mention about 8 missed attempts).

Was probably the greatest women's game I have seen in person to date.

Edited to add: There's a great video clip posted on the ECAC website, which should be a Rachel Weber highlight reel (ECAC Goalie of the month??) But, also for those of you out West who don't get to see Cornell play, this is a great example of Cornell's puck movement (although didn't end in a goal!) But, it's a great clip.

Weber may be the most underated goalie in the country

Nice scrappy win for the Tigers today against Robert Morris, who I think didn't show up until the third period (a long bus ride?). Weber was good, but both goals were kind of soft. Nice work by the defense plus Kelly Cooke, who seemed to be everywhere at once.

Noticed on the box score only 88 in attendance. Is that normal for the Tigers? That's really small.

I have only been to two games at Princeton, but they were probably the two smallest crowds I have seen ( Div 1 or Div 3).

I think that 88 is generous. There were more players suited up than spectators. But it was a Monday afternoon. Usually we get about 200. Students rarely attend.

That's really unfortunate. Kinda kills the home ice advantage. Has effort been put out to the student body to attract more or is it just not on anyones "to do" list?

I have no idea, I'm not affiliated with the university. But the kids are on break this week anyway, as exams were last week. The campus is dead. And it's a basketball school--hockey is a tough sell.

I have been to only one game there.....definitely more fans for the visitor than home team. Kind of sad. The campus is beautiful, nice old barn, but too bad they don't get more support on campus and in the community.

Location (Most southern/furthest out of the way D1 school in the East) might be a factor. Like you, love the location. When we visit, we take the opportunity to tour the country in the area, but getting there from the NE can be a challenge travelwise with all the traffic. (Nightmares of sitting for 3 hours on the GW bridge come to mind).

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

Occasionally we will get a lot of people from the community, especially with the "skate with the Tigers" promotion, which gets a lot of younger kids in attendance. So at least they are doing *something* to try to increase attendance. The men's team does quite well, often selling out, even though they charge.

Re: Princeton 2011-2012

I also don't think attendance is a problem unique to Princeton. I looked back at the last Friday night home game they had, against Harvard. Attendance was 205. That was more than double the crowds at RPI and Union, which were both listed as having 100 fans in attendance. So let's not jump all over Princeton.
