PrimeLink Shootout

Re: PrimeLink Shootout

With both Middlebury and Plattsburgh (local teams) playing in the first game there should be a good crowd although a lot of Norwich fans will probable watch only the Stout/Norwich game so seating should not be a problem. Should be many empty seats that fans can fill for first game.

As far as the game itself I think every team will have question marks although some more than others:

Norwich-with so many freshmen counted to be prime time players will they have the experience to compete with more experienced teams Stout and Middlebury/Plattsburgh. Win or lose I think fans will be impressed with the Schroeder twins and Eric Seigal and Kyle Thomas.

Stout-coming into the tournament highly rated but with 2 losses and 2 tie's already and will face eastern competition for the first time this year.

Middlebury-with 2 of Middlebury most skilled defensemen off the team (Svobda and Kretschmer) will Middlebury struggle. The tie with Tufts raises many questions for the year (although Middlebury did rebound against Conn College). Would be something if the 2 D-men were reinstated in time for this weekend.

Plattsburgh-most highly rated team in the tournament with only loss to Oswego. The Cards have been winning by large margins and it will be interesting to see if these types of results continue when the competition gets more difficult this weekend. Like most fans I am picking Plattsburgh as the favorite this weekend.

Also it appears that every team has some questions concerning goaltending which could make the difference this weekend.

Re: PrimeLink Shootout

Driving from Plattsburgh, which Lake crossing would you recommend? <strike>Grand Isle?</strike> Port Kent? Rouses Point would be just silly.

EDIT: Duh, I knew Port Kent was closed... I just had a bit of a blond moment there

Grand Isle ferry from Plattsburgh is a direct route to the Montpelier/Northfiled area. Should take no more than 2 hours including ferry if it is not snowing. I live in the Barre/Montpelier area and take that ferry when going to see a game in Plattsburgh. Roads are good once you get to Vermont. Gas is cheap in Barre and Montpelier too unlike NY.

Better check your rosters there hawk. Platty has 13 FY while Midd has 14FY players. Stout stands in with 11....all compared to 12 for Norwich. I think all FY are expected to be "prime-time players"................no matter your definition.

Now you know why we traded him to Castleton for something to be named later:D :D

WillieC last Friday and Saturday Norwich had something like 9 freshmen forwards in the lineup against UNE and USM. I can never remember a Norwich or Middlebury team with so many first year forwards in the lineup.
In addition as you will notice this Friday night many of these freshmen will be key players on the first 3 lines including the power play. What type of role do Middlebury's freshmen play? It is not necessarly the number of freshmen that Norwich has but the role the coach has given these players. Even Norwich's great players on past teams took a month or so as freshmen to get used to D3 hockey. I expect all 4 games this weekend to be very competitive. I will try and stop by early to catch Middlebury in action against Plattsburgh.

Plattsburgh vs. Middlebury? I won't TRY to be there, I will be there. :)

Re: PrimeLink Shootout

By the way, I'd like to know where Stout's rise to the top came from in the past 4 years. 6 years ago they were crap. With no new rink or coaching staff, how does a program have such a turn around?

Recruiting ability has a lot to do with a program's success, that is obvious for many reasons. National visibility, increased funding as program success continues, kids want to play for a contender year in and year out.

Terry Watkins recruited a couple of very good classes. Kids that were overlooked by the likes of Superior, St. Norbert etc. They were average junior players but were hard workers from good families.

They came in and might not have had the most talent, but simply outworked teams. Kids that had hearts bigger than you can imagine. You get a couple of good seasons under your belt and the classes improve. You put together another good season and again, it improves. Word spreads as many recruits are brought in through word of mouth from current players. Whether they were friends on a particular junior team or they know of a player who 'really is good'.

Once UW-Stout got that ball rolling, the higher caliber players came calling and now it's a matter of keeping that ball moving year after year. That is the difficult part.

Alas, I too sometime think Plattsburgh is the center of the Universe;)

Rouses Point is silly for those living south of Chazy/West Chazy/Altona, otherwise for those taking Route 11 it makes sense. Grand Isle Ferry is the best bet for anyone in the Plattsburgh area and those coming East on Route 3, and with the Crown Point Bridge closed for those north of Warrensburg, as those south of Warrensburg can take Route 4. Note, there is (maybe) limited ferry service in place of the bridge.

Re: PrimeLink Shootout

Ya think. Now the 60 thousand dollar question, Jerry who will you be routing for in this game?
Both goalie's to make 70+ saves and no goals through regulation, however many overtimes are allowed (I think it is only 1), and as many shootouts as possible.

Re: PrimeLink Shootout

I will be rooting for both teams to play a very fast, very physical, scoreless game!!;)

Hoping for a shootout at the shootout, and then hoping to go 2 for 2:cool:

And no offense, but "Menomonie" sounds like some one complaining they are broke.

Law of averages - The host team has won the past 3 Primelink Shootouts, 4 in a row:eek:

Re: PrimeLink Shootout

Can anyone out west give us eastern fans an idea of what to expect from Stout. I realize they lost to St. Norbert but that all.

On Friday I would like to see Plattsburgh win over Middlebury and Norwich over Stout. No suprise there.

Re: PrimeLink Shootout

If you plan to attend the PrimeLink you might want to enter the rink from the south end (main entrance). The north end of the rink has construction going on as we have begun phase II of the athletic complex.

Does the mean they are actually going to put bathrooms in?!?!
