POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

I don't think he knows that the noises that emanate from his taco bowl-eating hole are audible to others.

Oh, he does. It's his usual mode. First he bullies, expecting his target to be cowed, then he offers praise, expecting his formerly cowed target to be grateful that he no longer hates them, and will now kiss his azz. Worked for L'il Marco, Cruz, Newt, Christie, Mitt and all the rest.

Somehow, I don't think the intelligence agencies will play that game the way he seems to think they will.

You're assuming there aren't Judas Iscariots within the intelligence agencies...

Remember, Trump also uses blackmail. Take a look at what happened when Jeb Bush dropped out of the race.

News was a loss leader for the big three back in the day -- they used the impartiality and quality of news reporting to burnish their image. For a while we really did have quality news coverage.

That's gone except for PBS.

I think it a lot of ways this is a reflection on society more than anything else. They can spend tons of time and money putting together a high quality piece and yet people will pick to read/watch a nonsense article on Paris Hilton. Somewhere along the line the media more or less gave up, and it's hard to blame them.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

Count me in too. Once again I have to grudgingly give Trump his due on how he positioned himself over this issue. He's basically said nothing, and is going to leave Congressional Goopers to twist in the wind trying to come up with a plan. His campaign manager just stated nobody who currently has insurance will lose it. Methinks she didn't clear that statement with Ryan, Itch and crew before she made it. ;)

I don't get how that works. Medicaid was massively expanded for those Governors that took the money. Many Republicans did. Some did not. That costs money. Pre-Existing conditions cost money. Kids on parents insurance until 26 costs money.

Repealing eliminates all that and the stuff that pays for that. They want to keep all that "good stuff" and NOT pay for it. It's ****ing mind boggling.

AND I'M SOMEONE who hates the law because it's cost me a lot of money. A lot. So, what I want to happen is I want them to repeal the whole thing and let the people who voted for Trump suffer. Cause that's what they deserve.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

RIP Dorothy Kilgallen. :(

Didn't Reagan also take them on, or was that just the Central Bank? Obviously we're discussing the same end result.

Granted, this time around, there is an info war, and it is much more difficult, what with WikiLeaks and other whistle blowers, to cover it up.

Reagan is the patron saint of the Ruling Class. He was their boy, straight down the line.

Oh, they won't lose it now. Next year, when their policy runs out and Obamacare is repealed............................................

I don't think they gave up so much as they started telling people what they wanted to hear, because that then made them relevant. People are enamored with social popularity and gossip. Heck, if you look at ledgers of old local newspapers, there are gossip columns. Make fun of Anchorman 2 all you want, but the message behind it is absolutely true. News does have its place; just look at 9/12 where news ratings skyrocket.

Well, you know how I feel about that -- twas ever thus. I don't believe there is any difference in "society" between 2017 and 1957, or 157 for that matter. There is always a normal distribution of intelligence and seriousness, what changes is what portions of that distribution as sampled in the public culture.

In 1957 our public culture was dominated by the upper tail of the distribution. Now it is dominated by the lower tail. The reason is simple: the middle will follow the bottom tail as a titillating pleasure, but they are lost by the upper tail and don't tune in. Therefore the highest return when moving product (the only reason for media to exist in a consumer society) is to focus attention on the lower tail.

But the population hasn't changed at all. It's exactly like schools: in the 50s schools were good because the dumb/problem students dropped out. Now virtually nobody drops out, so the schools sag under the burden of educating those who do not wish to be educated. The engine still works; the fuel just sucks.

After the assassination attempt, sure. What about his ideas before then?

His ideas were to repeal the Great Society and push as much wealth upwards as he could. That is exactly the project of the Ruling Class.

Reagan was shot by a lone nut. The 1% were aghast when he was shot -- he was their golden ticket to what has happened ever since.

Never ceases to amaze me how the entire conservative population forgets that.

What I love about this whole thing is that Trump plans on reversing Obama's "illegal" executive orders with.....executive orders.

You're definitely right intelligence wise. But I think folks in 1957 didn't take for granted a lot of the things we do today.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

It's not that they've forgotten. It's they don't care. In fact, it gives them the fuel to press their argument that public education is failing.

While its impossible to read Trump's mind, I think he's fuking with Congress already to set them up to take the fall. This Repeal and Delay is total nonsense but once again it leaves Congress holding the bag. Trump can always loudly say he's still in favor of doing something about Obamacare, but his fellow Goopers in Congress need to send him a "realistic" plan that makes sure his voters keep their healthcare. Hasn't gone out on a limb once on this issue.

The only way I see out of this for them to keep both Trump happy and salvage some pride is a Medicaid buy-in. People currently getting subsidies pay same amount into Medicaid to receive coverage. That keeps promise of nobody losing insurance (unless they were paying the full ride, which is only 15-20% of policy holders) while ending the need for exchanges or mandatory insurance (insurers won't care as much if poor sick people most likely gravitate towards Medicaid). They can also stipulate this is only open to current ACA participants.

Some liberals seeing a move towards single payer most likely get on board.

I'm not sure I see 51 votes to get rid of Medicaid expansion as you state a lot of GOP Govs signed up. Same with no denying people with preexisting conditions coverage, or kids on parents insurance up to 26. Do a full repeal and delay for...what 1, 2, 5?? years and wait for the fun to begin once that deadline gets bumped up against and nothing's been agreed upon.

Well, they have a mandate now to tear the whole ****ing thing down. So, do it. People voted for it.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

Well here's an upgrade. Fox is replacing Megyn Kelly with Tucker Carlson. That's gonna draw the viewers.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

Yeah, but they took different things for granted. The folks in 1877 were happy if they got through the day without a rattlesnake bite or contracting gonorrhea from, um, a toilet seat -- yeah that's the ticket (except they didn't have toilet seats -- SUPER HARD CORE!!!), so does that mean the folks in 1957 were spoiled p-ssies?

I do not believe people ever change. Take 20k guys from 4000 BC Sumeria and dump them in Barstow and a month later they'll be at the mall hassling the poor Dairy Queen girl.
