Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

Sadly, no they didn't. It's the millions of people/Dems/whoever that were (in theory) supporting Hillary who chose to stay home and not vote for her who ****ed us over.

sorry, they don't get a pass just because the brainwashed a bunch of people to think Hillary was as bad as Trump with their stupid Bengazhi and EMAILZ!!! and Bernie got screwed!!!! bull****.

They are still the mother ****ers that voted for that orange piece of ****.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

At least Arne Duncan worked in public education as CEO of Chicago Public Schools. John King was New York State education commissioner.

What on earth makes DeVos qualified in any way to have anything to do with public education?

See, this is your argument, not where a Sec. of ____ or a politician is sending their children to school or they schools they attended themselves because they're mostly private educated with children in private schools, too. Stick to a strictly professional background argument and you can make an actual, solid case. Anything else and it looks like an emotionally charged complaint.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

I don't doubt Carson will do a good job.

Name one reason he is qualified for that job. Good luck, Ben Carson himself couldn't do that.

It's funny to see the Trump supporters here continue to hand wave away issue after issue after spending months railing on about insignificant **** like EMAILZ! and Obama not always wearing a suit like those irreverent young Neo-Nazis. The Trump/heroin analogy continues. Like they say, it's not a problem until your situation deteriorates faster than you can lower your standards. Rock bottom should be fun.

He's a smart, caring person who I believe grew up in public housing. Do you really think building houses is more difficult Neurology? Would you prefer some random contractor have gotten the job instead?

Not the first time you've believed something that a two-second Google search would have shown was incorrect.

Got a sneaking suspicion that the leadership of HUD entails a lot more than just building houses. So he's a neurosurgeon, has he ever managed people and multiple departments? Prepared and administered budgets? Sent contracts out to bid, and invoked cost-savings and efficiency practices? Strategic planning?

Are you saying I should get a job at CNN ;)? I apologize if the slight inaccuracy of my post bothered you. He lived in subsidized housing not public housing. Do you and others obsess over the accuracy of your posts? I do the best I can but at the end of the day this is just some random message board.

They're entirely different skill sets. Having talent in one area doesn't necessarily translate over to another. I can parse an MQ file like it's nobody's business, but don't ask me to manage people because then I'd be a disaster, regardless of my outlook on Egyptian pyramids.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

The problem with this story is it's the author quoting himself based on evidence that looks like complete bullsh-t.

Apparently, skepticism takes a backseat when the story is telling you what you want to hear.

We are all infected with confirmation bias. Some are asymptomatic; some have sniffles and a slight cough; some must (or should) stay home from work. Flaggy is comatose and covered with open, running sores.

Exactly. It's a common fallacy that just because someone is especially accomplished or talented in one field, they will probably be good at another. People do this with actors and athletes all the time - drives me nuts. I don't care how much time you spent practicing your facial expressions or doing dead lifts, that does not mean you can run a company. In the case of the Cabinet, we are not just talking about bout people who would be "good" in another field - we, the people, deserve Cabinet members who are literally the best in the entire nation. What are the chances that Ben Carson actually missed his calling and should have been a government administrator all along?

I just want you to know what an ******* you are because the pride you take in your complete ignorance has a deleterious effect on the rest of us.

All I know is that Dt. Carson saved the life of my cousin's son. As a brain surgeon, I'd trust him. As a hospital administrator? It depends on his bullthit recognition quotient.

And often true in the construction industry. I've seen a lot of great carpenters who thought they should make the natural progression to contractor, only to learn that they sucked at contracting. A lot of crossover, but still a different job requiring different skills.

Carson is a ludicrous choice for HUD however he does have administrative experience. IINM he was head of Pediatrics at Hopkins, which I believe entails the sort of glad handing and budget management typical of higher levels of administration. It's possible he was a demographic hood ornament useful for fund raising. It's possible they kicked him upstairs after whatever awful thing that has made him a sort of ambulatory vegetable made it unthinkable for him to continue to cut into people. But he did occupy that post.

I highly doubt these people are being offered cabinet posts just to be a part of the cabinet. One thing that really strikes me, especially with the energy pick, is a little like armchair quarterback syndrome: Sure, they can call out what's wrong with the department. So let them put their money where their mouth is, and actually put some fixes in for the better. And if they can't do the job, find someone else.

Also, even if you're very skilled in your field, a step up to another position can also be daunting because of the associated responsibilities, and/or you're no longer doing what you're good at.

But it's also a question of scale. Managing 10-20 doctors in pediatric surgery - if that many - is not the same as a multi-billion dollar agency with thousands of employees and lacking direct oversight of their tasks. It's a whole new beast.

I completely agree on all points except for the hood ornament portion. Being Dept. Head @ JHU for many years required considerable management skills. Enough to run HUD? Doubtful but it's not like he's not capable. Anyone who has had to manage a group of Physicians (let alone at a major institution with it's layers of bureaucracy) will tell you it's akin to herding cats. With Neurosurgeons only more so. Those very few Neurosurgeons who don't KNOW that they are God are well aware that God works through them. The ego scale goes to 11.

My brother worked for years as a director of a respected family practice residency program before taking a job as director of the FP residency program at an Ivy League University hospital. He found the second position to be more about politics than about managing a medical program. Disliked it rather intensely.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

Again, I'll defer to Dr. Carson himself(who, I should remind, we all agreed probably had some type of brain damage in the run-up to the election) on his qualifications to run a federal agency.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

How can there possibly be debate on whether or not Ben Carson is qualified? Ben Carson says he isn't! Trust him FFS
