Obviously, and nobody has suggested otherwise. Russia hacked in order to influence the election (successfully -- watch the footage of the Duma applauding Trump's election), but Russia did not hack the vote totals (I don't even know how they could -- the machines are freestanding as far as I know).

It's just laziness on the part of journalists. The word 'hack' has been changed to be something hip and edgy to use, even when actual hacking can't be found within a hundred miles of the story.

Just as a thought experiment: what if they had an investigation and it turned out Russia had hacked the vote totals? What do you think would happen?

I am certain Trump would just ignore the whole thing and say inane things about bad liberals / crooked Hillary / the lying media / smartypants "experts" who said my fingers are abnormally short... Unless John Roberts decided to have one of his decennial lapses into conscience we couldn't do anything, I assume?

to be clear, if russia HACKED the election they would have been in the voting computers changing the vote totals.

If you think the bolded part is some kind of revelation, not one person on here has suggested otherwise. In fact, multiple people have specifically noted that we're not suggesting the votes themselves were hacked.

It's funny, we're seeing an evolution of the strawman argument. In the past, it was generally required that a strawman at least bear a resemblance to the original point. You know, to not look completely stupid. Now? You just pile up some straw in a field, grab a beer, and drive General Lee right through it. That's considered proof on the right now.

Before today? I have no idea. If the revelation happens between today and January 20th, I have no idea but it would be more violent than before today. After January 20th, we'd never hear about it.

Yeah, but it's all connected. Comey, Wikileaks and the Russians all conspired (er, combined) for a perfectly-timed torpedo. Hillary was up 10 points and skating in on an empty net. It was over. But those three, for whatever their various agendas, breathed life back into what was dead to everyone except a few hundred saps / paid trolls typing in their underwear. And by a week after the election nobody but those saps believed there was anything substantial again.

It was the definitive October surprise. Quite beautifully carried off, actually, like 9/11. I mean if you want to view it aesthetically. Someday maybe 9/11 and 11/9 will be considered the pretty bookends that destroyed America.

Russia influenced the election by hacking various entities, including the RNC and DNC, and selectively releasing information it gleaned from the hacks to harm Clinton and favor Trump.

I can't help it if the media shorthands that to "Russia hacked the election" or if you, Sic, and Flaggy somehow don't have the mental capacity to glean the long form argument from the media's shorthand version.

No, that's what made it close. Without Hillary being hated Trump would have been down 20. Heck, maybe 30 -- he really is a doofus. So Hillary Hate wasn't dispositive. For that we needed Comey's Hand of God.

The national polls ended up being fairly accurate. Hillary won the popular vote by about 2 to 2.5 points, and most had her up 4 but fading.

The state polls were the ones that got it wrong.

I didn't take French. I took Spanish. French is useless.

Practically the same thing, both descended from Latin. If you can read Spanish, you can figure out quite a lot of French just from the way the words look. Had a kid in my French class who had taken a couple years of Spanish before this, and ended up writing half his tests in Spanish.

Was she? Not snark. Not smarmy. But ... was she? Honestly.

The NYT had her as winning at 1930 Eastern on Nov 8, and then, in two of the most stunning hours of NYT and American history, the great cross-over happened.

Did Wikileaks, Comey, Vlad, et al, cause this in just two hours.
Or, pray tell, was Michael Moore right < barf > but nobody listened to his dire warnings.
