POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

I'm still not sure how many crossover votes Trump got vs Dems who just didn't vote at all. Where there a lot of Obama 2012-Trump 2016 voters? Or did a good portion of Obama 2012 voters stay home? I'm guessing the second one, because while she may be a couple of million off of Obama's totals, several million more people joined the ranks of voters since the last election.

Honestly, I'd guess the two tallies are about equal. Clinton's numbers were lower than Obama's; Trump's numbers were higher than his dinner date from this week (Romney).

Hence, mentally ill people can legally purchase weapons in some cases without any background check.

All I have to say to that is this: Go to your local licensed FFL and try to purchase a firearm. I'm permitted for concealed carry in ND. I go to shops in ND and try to purchase, pull out my permit (with the NICS number from my background check during permitting), and still they call the NICS hotline and reconfirm.

Regarding Pelosi I feel bad for her because of the 3 people in charge back in the day (Pelosi, Reid, Obama) she's the least to blame.

Last one left gets stuck with the bar tab.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Regarding the DNC, heard Ellison on NPR and was not impressed. Howard Dean all the way baby!

You're not an Ellison? We'll, there's $20 I lost ... ;)

Dean has too much baggage. Want to re-establish the "blue wall" (WI, MI, OH)? Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan. If that's too "Midwest" for the coastal elite Ds, it only has to be for one election cycle. That'll be enough to re-connect because most of the Ds that crossed over to Trump did it begrudgingly while holding their noses.

Dems problem is twofold. First the stigma of not being able to get anything done in the face of obstructionism. Fair or not, its not inspiring to voters if you need a House majority, 60 seat Senate majority and the WH to get anything done. Obama while a solid Prez had a stunning inability to force Goopers to take tough votes and then exploit them when they did or didn't. Second problem is the left is lazy. There's little sustained effort to coalesce and sustain an issue over many election cycles, both in Presidential years and mid-terms. A good example is gun control. Most people want "sensible gun control" which usually revolves around background checks for all purchases and sales. The problem is one side votes based on this issue, and the other side does not. Hence, mentally ill people can legally purchase weapons in some cases without any background check.

Regarding Pelosi I feel bad for her because of the 3 people in charge back in the day (Pelosi, Reid, Obama) she's the least to blame. She passed the entire Obama agenda as she was supposed to. Somewhat ironic that Reid who took 6 years to learn how to do his job is better thought of as a warrior for the cause. However, this needs to be her last term as leader of the House Dems. Need to hand over the reigns of power to a younger generation.

I don't think Trump flipped a lot of votes, but he flipped them in places that really counted.

I don't think Trump flipped a lot of votes, but he flipped them in places that really counted.

And he didn't flip them based on personal eccentricity -- he flipped them based on tribal identity so the trials weren't independent. That's where the statistical models failed. They assumed that if you had a 25% chance of flipping one guy then you only had a 7% chance of flipping two. In the event, it may have been a 25% chance of flipping the first guy but if you did then his brother, son, cousin, grocer, and bail bondsman all came with him.

It's ironic that after decades of whining about "identity politics" the GOP pulled this off purely on identity politics. :p

Suckers.

You can't fool all of the people all of the time, but you don't have to.

Pro tip: show up <--- I'm not the author, but I love it: Who. Shows. Up.

It hurts (disgusts?) me to say this, but Trump pulled off a Reagan: Trump got Midwestern Ds to show up and and vote for the R. Trump broke the "blue wall". Why? Not because he had a fabulous message, not because he was the better candidate (of two terribly flawed candidates), but because the Ds forgot a core constituency (that Ds will need for at least another 20 years). Or at least that's what rural Ds believed.

Here's the scarier one for the Ds: Mondale held MN even against Reagan's "49-1" win. That article makes it sound like MN was in doubt this time.

Minnesota was always in play. I tried to say that, heavily qualified though saying that I think MN will go to Clinton by a wide margin. People think MN is a solid, blue rock. It's not. It hasn't been for about 8-12 years.

I haven't heard much from Ryan. Not dismissing him out of hand but don't like his "Dems are a coastal party" shtick. Tell that to the Dems in NM, NV, CO, IL, and MN, none of which are near an ocean the last time I checked. However he is correct about new leadership. Dems problem isn't one of geography necessarily. Its the general laziness of their supporters politically combined with the sense that even if they have great plans they have little ability to see them thru to being implemented. Image means a lot, and if Dems are to recapture that sense of getting things done they'll need new faces to do so rightly or wrongly.

Jesus, the guy in that video looks like the mingled spawn of Anthony Weiner and Paul Ryan.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

If the Democrats had listened, just by pounding on standard Democratic platforms of jobs, pay, etc..., there were more than enough votes for them to capture out there to defeat the small, xenophobic and racist minority in this country.

And like I said, we've covered more than enough in this thread that that is exactly what their platform did; offer solutions to those issues in a modern economy. It just sounded like too much work to a group of people that thought being born with white skin and getting a high school diploma was enough. Offering up a slightly different strain of heroin may have won more votes, but it wouldn't have helped anybody.

Can I ask what you didn't like about him? I'm not saying I do like him, just curious to see what you're looking for in new leadership.

Anyone but Clinton and it isnt in play. We were a Bernie state we were not on board with Clinton from the jump. And even with that she still won by a higher percentage than Trump won Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida. Hell it is almost parallel to the popular vote. Minnesota was a microcosm of the entire election.

It was closer than it had any right being, but it was never in serious danger of going red. If anything it had as much to do with Johnson and Stein than anything which I have to admit, Donald said he was told by his advisers when I worked his VIP party months ago.

We will know the truth though in 4 years. If the Dems put up anyone better than Clinton (which, lets be honest the Dems arent exactly good at doing) I will bet we see Minnesota go back to the way things were. If we dont then Minnesota is no longer controlled by Hennepin County. I will believe it when I see it. I dont believe that though any more than I believe Michigan and Wisconsin are staying Red. We will see though..

If I had to guess he was too progressive for Rover. Elleson is as far away from the Clintonistas as you can get. Dean is still in the mold of that old school Democrat though he is better than the people he was replaced with.

I like Dean but the Party needs new blood in charge. Millions of Dem voters just gave the finger to the party, they obviously want something different. The Bernie/Warren contingent are sick of the same ole same ole which is why both want Elleson.

Maize,

People dont want the world to change. They want to believe that they can go back to the good old days where they could work factory jobs or mining jobs and be happy. They dont want to know that they need to learn new skills and they really dont want to admit that if they wanted to better their lives it is in their hands. There are jobs to be had, but these Poor Disenfranchised White Working Class People dont want them because change is hard.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Not dismissing him out of hand but don't like his "Dems are a coastal party" shtick.

The "coastal elite" shtick doesn't fly when his state voted for a coastal elite.

People dont want the world to change.

Agreed. And I want the Big Ten to hire competent football officials. But we both have very little say in the matter and have to deal with the consequences even if we don't like it.

He came off as defensive and whiny without a plan to move forward. I think there's also something to the notion that DNC chairperson is a full time job. Mind you DWS most likely would have been a failure regardless, but I'm not sure splitting time between Congress and the national committee is a good idea.

My main issue that I'd like to see addressed is attention to down ballot races. For example, 15-20 years ago Goopers concentrated on winning judicial elections in key states. Only in the last couple of years have Dems responded to that. 6 years ago they put a huge emphasis on state legislatures and to a lesser extent attorney generals. This is where the Dems need to counter. I'm not a big proponent of the deep bench philosophy, as in all your future govs and senators start out as dogcatchers and county commissioners. Reason being both the Dems in 2006 and GOP in 2010 had just come off of back to back terrible election cycles, but it didn't stop them from rebounding. Candidates come from all over, from academia (Warren), business (Warner), military (Moulton), social activism (Obama, Sanders), US attorney's, law enforcement, you name it. However, in order for govs and senators to be a success they're going to need like minded people backing them in the states they come from.

Dean in previous commentary said and did several things that were spot on accurate. His funding of secretary of state office races to ensure no more Florida 2000's was 100% correct. So was the 50 state strategy. He also nailed it when saying Republicans want to tell you one thing they know about a couple of issues. Dems want to tell you everything they know about every issue. Lastly, recently he mentioned that its not the DNC chairman's job to set policy - congressional leadership has to do that. Again, he's right. Recruitment, funding, turnout infrastructure, down ballot races, etc - that's the chairman's job, not going on talk shows and making an idiot out of yourself on a regular basis (DWS example again). So, if people like Ryan, etc have a similar philosophy that's great but I'd really like to hear that.

Handy saying you don't want Dean because the party needs someone younger is like saying you wouldn't hire Bill Belichick as coach. If the guy has a record of winning, who cares?

If you have a spare 30 minutes anywhere, I recommend you watch the Trevor Noah interview with Tomi Lahren.

http://www.cc.com/video-clips/m9ds7...ah-exclusive---tomi-lahren-extended-interview

I started watching that this morning and was late to work because of it. I only got halfway through. She just totally bugs me. Didn't answer anything directly. From what I saw, I thought he did a good job trying to show the hypocrisy and all she did was repeat the same old stuff.

The modern economy hasn't reached the rural areas.

The rural areas are still driven by agriculture and the supporting industries. And many of those jobs are the ones that have left for low wage countries. High speed internet? Really? How's that really help the farmer in the field or the factory worker welding and painting a new chisel plow at the Summers Manufacturing plant in Devils Lake, ND?

The solutions offered are an Antoinette-esque "let them eat cake" to those folks. A guy like Tim Ryan (D-OH) would reconnect with them.
