I'm not tiptoeing. I'm saying the idea that all white men are responsible for what idiot white men do is, no matter how commonly held, baloney. Bobby Kennedy wasn't responsible for the murder of MLK.* The idea that sharing demographic characteristics means sharing guilt is a load. It's intellectually lazy.

All whites in this country have privilege. We do share that. We benefit every day.

All men in this country have privilege. We do share that. We benefit every day.

All straights in this country have privilege. We do share that. We benefit every day.

But all whites and/or men and/or straights are not responsible for the racist idiocy of Republicans. Republicans are responsible for that. The f-ck are we supposed to do? Discipline them at the double secret white male Tuesday meetings?

In Germany the Nazis immediately declared opposition parties illegal the first day they had the power in the Reichstag. In Italy Mussolini was much more honest about it: he just shot them. For the Right, the Great Daddy, the Great God Emperor, is the whole point. The authoritarian personality craves dominance: they see it as right for their Fuhrer to dominate the Party which dominates them, while they as Daddy -- a little personal Hitler -- can dominate their family. From top to bottom the whole driving force is a fist. A feature.

That's what the Left and the Right are all about, Charlie Brown.

Good lord...I get you refuse to believe that the Left is anything but pure but your naivete is pretty wild sometimes. It isnt worth hashing out right now but another time for sure. :)

(I mean this we can do this another time this thread gets too easily side tracked and there are bigger fish to fry than our little academic tête-à-tête :) )

This 100%!

This stuff gets lost in the noise way too friggin often.

I am a white male suburbanite...sure I grew up poor much of my life (or on the edge) but we still survived it part because of privileges built into the system. My parents have been nailed for petty crimes many times and yet never had much to deal with because of those same privileges in the system. That doesnt make me RESPONSIBLE for those privileges though.

Hell I say it every time someone says I am biased against the GOP (everything they stand for benefits me more than hurts me I should be biased FOR them) because I support Progressive ideas. I want to let EVERYONE have what I benefit from.

Not at all. There are good and bad people on the Left and the Right. But the visions are such that on the Left the good people are steering while the bad people are trying to divert. On the Right the bad people are steering while the good people are trying to divert.

Left vs Right really comes down to liberation vs oppression. The former, unless corrupted, will tend to good results for a majority of people. The latter, unless reformed, will tend to bad results for a majority of people. In each case we are talking tendencies. There are no absolutes and there are always exceptions.

I'm fairly cool with the Jezzie Lezzies. There's a lot more of a sense of humor and a tendency to self-criticism on Jezebel than on The Root, probably because feminism is more advanced than black liberation theory. Feminists have gone through the Bad Phase of Reflexive Stupidity and emerged on the other side (not college students, but feminists in general). Black radicals are just entering the Bad Phase and have a long way to go before they start actually examining their own motives and reflexes.

The stakes are different, too. The actions against women can be lethal but are typically economic. The actions against blacks, OTOH, are very frequently lethal. When you are fighting not to be shot down in the street by the cops the niceties of strict logical cohesion of arguments tend to get left in the Pending tray, and I don't blame them at all.
