POTUS 46.10: A New Hope

Gas prices by me are just fine. Hardly a difference outside of holidays when you expect big shifts.

Gas prices should be fine by anyone. In inflation adjusted dollars, the price of a gallon of gas today is cheaper than it was the year I got my license. In fact I would have to be paying about $3.90/gallon for it to be relatively equivalent, and I just gassed up for $2.99.

People may understand the idea of inflation, but they still bitch about nominal changes and the reality of it. It's why old managers bitch when a new college grad wants to start at 50k and not 10k like he did back in 1945.

$3/ gal is a bellwether, even if it shouldn't be anymore. And I'm waiting for the soothsayer from the "$5 gallon of gas here we come" thread to come back.

Very surprising to see Joe hand Afghanistan over to the Taliban. It’s a horrible thing to have happen but might be worse for China than it is us.

Why won't the Afghan armed forces fight for their country?

"Joe hand Afghanistan over to the Taliban." Jesus Fucking Christ, you ignorant dipshit.

Nice try. Your fat baby boy did it and you know it.

The full court press on every network screaming like a scalded infant because The Empire is losing a profit center is both pathetic and hilarious. If you ever for an instant think CNN or MSNBC are Left, watch them carry water for the MIC 24/7 on this. It's as bad as when they spread their eyelids for Bibi's cum shots.

Just as The Rise and Fall of Empires predicted 30 years ago, we're exhausted financially, morally, and physically with this scam to redistribute money from the American middle class to the accounts of the wealthy. It's over and god bless it. The one and only thing Dump ever did right.

Fun fact: prior to around 1790 inflation had been essentially zero, globally, since the 1500s.

I was told there was no more Taliban thanks to 45. Are you telling me I was lied to by the GQP again?!?

It would be nice to know the answer.

It might wind up being a positive for us if they harass China, but the tough thing for me to take is how quickly the Taliban have taken control. We have a strike group in the area and you would hope they could beat back the Taliban some.

Doesn't matter when we leave, they're going to take control five minutes after that. Take your lumps a get the hell out.

Heard an interesting take on POTUS today from someone who spent time there. There are no afghanis. They describe themselves as Pashtuns, etc. so trying to fight for a country would be like us fighting for NAFTA.

This might all be a load of shit, but it made sense. They're just laying down arms because we tried to make a country where there is none.

Pashtuns are the largest of FOURTEEN different ethnolinguistic groups, a few of which straddle the arbitrary lines colonizers drew on the map. (Pashtuns are in Pakistan, Uzbeks in Uzbekistan, Tajiks in Tajikistan, etc.) There are many smaller tribes on top of these. There is little to no Afghan patriotism.

I would say it's probably true, and it's probably not just Afghanistan...

We make this mistake all the time. Vietnam, Yugoslavia, Iraq/Iran . . . Native Americans.

The Brits understood it but they still screwed up, so it doesn't matter.

The problem isn't how you empire building, it's empire building itself.

Did you think donnies original may 1 date was better? You realize Biden pushed it back to September?

I don't like how this is playing out...but we have been there too long. It is either leave now or we likely never do. It isn't like we did it over night we announced this months ago and it was originally put in place a President ago.

The fast collapse just makes the whole thing a waste though.
