Gas prices by me are just fine. Hardly a difference outside of holidays when you expect big shifts.
Gas prices should be fine by anyone. In inflation adjusted dollars, the price of a gallon of gas today is cheaper than it was the year I got my license. In fact I would have to be paying about $3.90/gallon for it to be relatively equivalent, and I just gassed up for $2.99.
Very surprising to see Joe hand Afghanistan over to the Taliban. It’s a horrible thing to have happen but might be worse for China than it is us.

People may understand the idea of inflation, but they still ***** about nominal changes and the reality of it. It's why old managers ***** when a new college grad wants to start at 50k and not 10k like he did back in 1945.
$3/ gal is a bellwether, even if it shouldn't be anymore. And I'm waiting for the soothsayer from the "$5 gallon of gas here we come" thread to come back.

Why won't the Afghan armed forces fight for their country?
It would be nice to know the answer.
It might wind up being a positive for us if they harass China, but the tough thing for me to take is how quickly the Taliban have taken control. We have a strike group in the area and you would hope they could beat back the Taliban some.
Heard an interesting take on POTUS today from someone who spent time there. There are no afghanis. They describe themselves as Pashtuns, etc. so trying to fight for a country would be like us fighting for NAFTA.
This might all be a load of ****, but it made sense. They're just laying down arms because we tried to make a country where there is none.

Pashtuns are the largest of FOURTEEN different ethnolinguistic groups, a few of which straddle the arbitrary lines colonizers drew on the map. (Pashtuns are in Pakistan, Uzbeks in Uzbekistan, Tajiks in Tajikistan, etc.) There are many smaller tribes on top of these. There is little to no Afghan patriotism.
We make this mistake all the time. Vietnam, Yugoslavia, Iraq/Iran . . . Native Americans.
