POTUS 46.10: A New Hope

And then, the cherry on the ****ing sundae. There is a new report (poll) whatever out that indicates that women are deciding altogether after Dobbs just not to have children. Why? Cause it's too ****ing dangerous. And this is happening in ALL states, not just red. And OBGYN's are becoming extremely scarce everywhere in the United States which is only going to exacerbate the problem.

Congratulations America.
For years my wife and I were solidly "no children."

With the pandemic, her pandemic forced career change, and our ages creeping up on us, we warmed to the idea of possibly having a child.

Then Roe was overturned.

She has had some health issues and thankfully we live in a solid Blue state (thank you Chicago), but it's something we don't want to risk now.

"Children? In this economy?"

We'd still like to have kids. I'll be 39 in a couple months. We know we're getting close to that murky line of biology and ethics.

if you asked us how many kids we wanted even two years ago, it was a solid at least two, but no more than three. Now we're a solid at least one no more than two.

But it's something we've discussed. With the globe turning into an oven and an uncertain political future, it's a hard call. But we came to the conclusion we'd probably regret it if we didn't. But that's us and everyone's mileage will vary.

It’s not even just that you might die. Mandated death by the state of course

it’s that there’s no fucking support here! The non trolls here all get this, I know.

how anyone expects to pay for health ins, daycare, and then education- and then save for retirement? Hahahaha

im on a board helping distribute funds to orgs that provide urgent, basic services. I know Jim mentioned in a diff thread that blue states are doing nothing to help red state refugees- but a lot of people in blue states are requiring resources. I have seniors being priced out of their homes from property and ins increases. Families who can’t afford enough food each month. The percent increase in my area rbis year of people who need it is staggering.

Daycare is utterly insane. More expensive than most land grant out of state costs.

Was talking to a coworker who knew someone who had twins. $50k. Per year.

Great post. All this and more. I have no idea how anyone outside of being "rich" can afford to have kids. That my be the point. I managed to have two and raise them but I can guarantee that I sacrificed some of those things in your list (retirement money), and I also did not have to pay for daycare.

I ran and still run deficits to this day despite making a pretty decent salary. Am I guilty of wasting too much money on "certain" luxuries? Sure. But, it's all part of the decision process you go through.

Oh, and ALL of these issues were discussing around having children were all documented in Elizabeth Warren's The Two Income Trap. The greatest economics book ever written.

Everyone should just adopt.

The evangelicals can lead the charge and set the example...

https://bethany.org/resources/the-church-could-give-every-u-s-waiting-child-a-home

If one family from each existing church congregation adopted one single child, the foster care system would have zero backlog.

As it is, if one family from every *third* existing church congregation adopted a child, the ready for placement backlog would be emptied freeing up resources for the remainder of kids working through the system.

So like I said, Evangelicals can lead the way and set the example.

Just pointing out why you, personally, should be upset and defending him.

shocking you are not.

So he deserves preferential defence versus the thousands of lower profile people who face bogus gun charges? His dad can pardon him and he has unlimited resources to protect himself against these charges where most people aren’t nearly as lucky. It’s not right he got charged but instead of him getting all the attention how about the people who don’t have that type of platform?

For god's sake dude, why are you being so obtuse?

This is a good law in theory because we don't want addicts possessing guns. That is a noble goal. But in practice it's almost impossible to enforce, in fact there's one question on an FID application where you self attest, and no follow up. The people charged with it are also charged with other crimes, and this ends up being an add-on charge, mainly used to compel a plea deal or some cooperation or whatnot. It's virtually never charged as a stand-alone. Further, the 5th Circuit just ruled it unconstitutional. It's the 5th, so there's that nonsense, but we'll see where it even ends up.

So here we have a high profile case where there were really only two crimes: this administrative gun crime and a tax crime. The tax charges are typically dropped if the defendant makes restitution, which Biden did before even his initial indictment. The gun charge was then brought because of overwhelming political pressure.

Again, if there's more there, charge him, try him, convict him and lock his ass up. But from what we know, there's not much else besides dumb and incredibly vague accusations that, so far, have gone nowhere but the right wing bubble.

Drew's ok with mentally incapable people owning guns, but he draws the line at drug users. Gotta stand for something.

AFAIK they actually do a lot of adoption, because they want to spread their poison to more vulnerable young minds. Either that or they just like having a lot of children around they aren't related to, for some other purpose.*

* I'm kidding, of course. Evangelical pedophilia has never been stopped by their relation to children.

If you actually read anything (assuming you could read) about this, you'd see this particular charge is pretty much never brought up despite many many situations where it could be. So if anything the high profile of this case is making it get tougher treatment. I personally say don't do the crime if you can't do the time, and he clearly did the crime, so I will lose no sleep over it. But it's impressive how you always seem to completely miss the point of anything.

Side note, remember the Conservative President 2025 Plan that was linked around here, and Slap Shot and I were discussing. Apparently, buried within the 900 odd pages was discussion of the family values. And this Conservative Manifesto states that the new GOP President should declare that marriage is between one man and one woman, and virtually all divorice outlawed for the "sanctity of the family."

Meaning if Cletus gives Sarah Jo a black eye every two weeks and gets a court ordered restraining order and divorices him, they would be forced back together.

Also, they admit they're not going full Handmaid's Tale, because surrogacy would also be eliminated because the child should be with their biological parents.

It's really fucking dark and disgusting what's being proposed if any Conservative becomes President.

I love how conservatives just assume we want to shelter Hunter Biden because if the situation were reversed they would bend over to exonerate "their" guy.

When every one of us is saying "he's a rich spoiled cunt; put him in irons."

Conservatives always project. It may be why their humor is terrible -- they assign us their motives. Every accusation is a confession.

I’m trying to figure out which poster has gone out of their way to defend Hunter. Seems the most anyone has is to point out how much Rs hate the law he is being charged with.

As for them thinking he will be pardoned- we are all waiting for that wrt the previous charges. Much like we are all still waiting for President Obama banning guns.

Lastly- how does this matter to President Biden? I see the right thinks this is the first step, but the first step to what?

The projection is clearly showing.
