POTUS 45.66: Get Hard

You can prevent cameras and recording devices (hence courtroom sketch artists), but we have a constitutional right to public trials in this country, so no.

Can you hold media entities in contempt if they dox jurors?

If they use only information that they hear in open court or that is otherwise publicly available? Nope.

A specific juror might have a private cause of action for invasion of privacy or something like that depending on many factors, but courts can't put a gag order on private citizens watching a trial in open court, or the whole open court thing becomes meaningless.

I am not sure what is more amazing about Day 1 of Trump's Trial...

1) Trump is arguing he didn't have an affair
2) AMI released the mistreses from their NDAs one month after the election
3) an editor at the Enquirer texted David Pecker on election night when Trump was about to win "what have we done?"
4) Weisselberg wrote down the entire scheme down...and the prosecutors have the notes

David Pecker says Michael Cohen would call him after 2016 Republican presidential debates. Based on the success candidates had, Cohen would direct him and Enquirer editor-in-chief Dylan Howard on which candidate to target next in the magazine.

Jesus...I was wrong they flat out did interfere in the election. And they were so stupid they were explicit about it!

As for what the judge said...the lawyer lost credibility when he said Trump didn't sleep with Stormy Daniels. No one on the jury is going to believe that. Hell half the Trumpers don't. Trump is killing his own case.

The Jury was not there when Merchan said it. It was in the contempt hearing about Trump's violation of the gag order. They argued it was political speech and since he was reposting a quote he did nothing wrong. When Merchan heard that Trump altered the quote and Blanche had no defense of it Merchan then made his comment.

BTW it is the right move for the prosecutors to not seek jail time but just money for each violation. They even said they think Trump wants to go to jail. I agree he wants to be a martyr. Take his cash and cut him off at the knees.

100%. Money takes his identity. Take that and he's cooked. And take his corporation, even better. That, and it's a more effective punishment, since it hurts more.

I thought it was a max fine of $1000/violation of the gag order? That kind of money is never going to hurt Trump or his campaign.

No. For Trump to even think twice, I think it has to be over $100M.

Even if he violated the gag order 100x per day, it would take 273 years to add up to $100M.

We will have to see how it's ruled. Let alone how much more financial pain he can take.

Its not going to hurt him...its just going to be annoying. Plus it forces him to stay in the courtroom. Basically he is paying money to have to sit their and watch a trial and be silent.

Throw him into gen pop. Let the market decide.

He *wants* to be a martyr. Just imagine the campaign spam about how his freedoms have been snuffed out by the croooked Dems if that happens. "They're jailing their opponents!"

Nah. Hit him where it hurts the most: his ego. The man couldn't make change for a nickel if he used a take-a-penny jar. $1000 per offense isn't much, but when you're paper tiger billionaire who can't even AmEx Chick-Fil-A for lunch it's embarrassing to be reminded of that publicly.
