Re: POTUS 45.57: We Should Have Voted for Zaphod Beeblebrox Instead.

That isnt what I mean...obviously the GOP wont touch him. What I mean is you need to have all the ducks in a row, an airtight case. When the Senate ignores it you need to make sure they look as ridiculous as they are for brushing it aside. The only way to make sure this doesnt backfire in 2020 is to be able to present an open and shut case and have them ignore it. It has to be obvious...not just to us but to the average person. (i.e. anyone not a Trumper) You need to make sure John Q. Public can look at everything and see all the dots connected. If it is too vague or over the head it wont resonate with the people.

And yes, in this case they do matter. Impeachment in this case is about making the larger case (the one the candidates might not be able to make) to the voting public about why this clown needs to be removed. Impeachment is the Indictment and the people are the Jury since the Senate has given up all authority. It has to be well above conjecture so that every person who walks into the booth has to reconcile within their head that they are either voting for sanity, or out and out criminality. We know a good percentage will do that...he has a locked in number. But we want to A) get the Dems who stayed home motivated to come out and B) get even a few of the swing voters that flipped his way to change their mind. The magic number is like 100k in 3 states. You make the right Impeachment case you will crush that.

That right now is all I care about.

Well, we should start by censuring him every time he lies, every time he is a sleaze, every time he foments violence. Can we agree on that? If the GOP wants to defend him when he mocks the disabled or says sexist things or forwards Nazi tweets, by all means don't stop them.

But you don 't get a case if you keep slow-walking the investigative aspect of it. The Dems are, as Sic would say, just waiting for some savior to come along and deliver them a manila envelope with all Trump's crimes laid out for them. First, that was Mueller, which didn't happen, and now they're waiting for him to "self-impeach" or for some Republican to finally stand up and say they've had enough. Rather than just get down to the nitty gritty of investigating and building a case.

To point. Heard anything about Trump's taxes lately? Wasn't the House subcommittee subpoenaing them? How long ago was that? Not really pushing too hard to get them, are they? Donny pitches afit and says I'm suing, and everything just grinds to a halt while they try to "come to some sort of accomodation".

Democrats are puzzies.

Re: POTUS 45.57: We Should Have Voted for Zaphod Beeblebrox Instead.

And, actually, what Trump did was breaking the law. ... You start accepting the little crap, and pretty soon, you've got a fascist in charge of your country. How to boil a frog.

Yes, this is what I was trying to say.

I think we are all on the same page that Dump must go and the GOP-Nazis have to be given such a terrific beating that they either spontaneously reform themselves as a legitimate conservative party or they shrink to a regional reactionary party in the Deep South, Prairie, and Aryan Nation West:

Given that, I intend to spend more time on what I hate about the enemy and not slagging each other in employing different tactics to destroy them.

Oh. He's reacting because this particular branch started with cf's response to Handy which I then tag-teamed in on. So I was responding to him, but not at all remembering it was he. I had to go back an extra page of the thread to find the OP from which this came.

So maybe he's angry about that because he thinks I was dissing him. I wasn't. Handy, I apologize if I seemed to be.

But I was agreeing with cf in disagreeing with you. In my opinion: (1) it's not settled that it is better politically for the Dems not to start impeachment proceedings, and (2) even were it I think it is still our duty.

No worries :)

Agreed 100000000%. :)

There is no question that being continually confronted with dump's childish behavior is both depressing and exhausting. We need to be talking about what we are doing or plan to do about it on an individual level. I'm not a political animal by nature, but I will give freely of my time next year when it is needed. And I will feel good doing so in this swing state, knowing that the next door knock or call might send him back to selling condos or, better, jail.

Moscow Mitch would get so mad that he'd turn red if the House were to censure Pres. Stroganoff.

I live in a blue state but my town is firmly in the knuckle dragging neanderthal camp. Fortunately we are small and have no impact on the political landscape. (It has an effect on my sanity- I would move out in a flash if mr les wasn't hell bent on living where he was born.)

A lot of people I know are frustrated, exhausted and following along in patent disbelief. I am not in that camp as much- I had patients who had personality disorders- he doesn't surprise me one bit. It is the group think and the brilliant manipulation of the base that gets me.

Almost wish we lived in a purple or swing state where we could make a difference. Hearing 'Vote!' is an exercise in frustration. Other than the most liberal Gov in the GOP there is no one to vote out. Our State people on the Hill are not tRump sycophants. The constituents voting in the Turtle and other idiots are idiots or ignorant but they drink the Koolaid and they ain't stopping anytime soon.

Re: POTUS 45.57: We Should Have Voted for Zaphod Beeblebrox Instead.

Eff his childish behavior on the campaign trail. He can't win on policy alone at this stage. The economy won't collapse but there is a myriad ways to explain to even derps we've fallen behind.

Re: POTUS 45.57: We Should Have Voted for Zaphod Beeblebrox Instead.

If Trump gets reelected, there's no chance of impeachment with consequences because the Senate isn't flipping either. Do it now, make it miserable for him, get some rage tweeting that exposes himself for some other illegal activities.

Rinse and repeat.

Do it now, and it could strengthen the chance of Trump getting re-elected. My saying he should be impeached is my opinion (which is shared by many others). Why they are not doing it is not because of his impeachable actions. It's because the Dems don't want to risk making any more enemies that will vote. It's sad that THAT is the way it is, but it IS the way it is.

And how, exactly?

Trump has a base who'll vote for him of around 40%. He got elected last time beca use Russian meddling in three swing states convinced enough swing voters to vote for him instead of that biitch.

Those voters have largely swung back hugely negatively toward Trump. As have a number of states that Trump won handily.

Those swing voters aren't going back to him just because the Democrats impeach him. Anyone who says they aren't gonna vote Democrat cause they impeached Trump, weren't going to vote Democrat anyway.

Voters like you.

Re: POTUS 45.57: We Should Have Voted for Zaphod Beeblebrox Instead.

It's the voters that are sick of the politics, and impeachment is a political move. And don't accuse me of voting like that. I don't. So, you can properly eff off.

Some voters will see this as a glory move for the Dems, and will vote Indie, or swallow the garbage and vote Trump to "continue to drain the political swamp." The voters that the Dems need (unless they get the ones that sit at home to get out and vote).

And IF Trump is re-elected, the Dems starting the impeachment process will look like they are finally doing something, and build on that for the next election.

It's twisted and totally effed up, but again, that is how it is in this world.

Re: POTUS 45.57: We Should Have Voted for Zaphod Beeblebrox Instead.

Because 20 some years ago the Rs impeached Clinton over less and it backfired in the next election (hint: it actually didn't.)

But our resident centrist sure seems to think impeachment is a bad idea.

I think it's a bad idea AT THIS TIME. And apparently, many Dems agree.

I don't think impeachment is a bad idea overall. For what he's done, he SHOULD be impeached.

Seems like a few people can't comprehend the difference in that.

What many?

This precedent will destroy the country next President that pulls this ****. Not impeaching is an erosion that will not go away.

And that is a valid POV.

The way I look at it, the Dems are doing EVERYTHING to safeguard any questionable voter. I repeat, it's sad that politics is this way in today's world, but it is what it is. And even IF impeachment proceedings started, there's no guarantee he would be impeached, and can you imagine the carnage if Trump got re-elected after THAT? Good Lord.
