But how about if a journalist (as opposed to an opinion writer) just writes the facts. It's not that hard. "On Sunday, the President of the United States issued a tweet targeting four freshman minority members of the House of Representatives. The President demanded the four "go back to the country you came from." All four are U.S. residents, and three were born in this country. Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota emigrated to the U.S. when she was 14. The President's comments were immediately condemned as racist and xenophobic by the four representatives as well as numerous other members of Congress. Speaker Pelosi responded ...."

It ain't that difficult.

"Trump made a racist tweet", is also entirely factual and doesn't require nearly as many words or beat around the bush as much.

I get that we live in a society where many (the majority of?) white people have been conditioned to claim that someone is, "playing the race card", every time the the subject is brought up but that's also part of what's gotten us to this point in my estimation.

I prefer SJ's methodology. There's plenty out there in the Twitterverse to post that observation without serious pundits needing to drop that hammer.

The serious pundits are so worried about finding the magic "middle ground" that doesn't exist at the expense of calling a spade a spade and having any integrity. Chuck Todd being a great example but there are plenty others.

Gotta agree here. There's an old quote by maybe Molly Irvins about how the media thinks that if they have one guy on saying that Hitler was a swell guy and another saying he wasn't, then they've done their jobs. This is why the media is now about as popular as payday loan vendors and used car salesmen.

I certainly have no objection to people expressing opinions on the tweet. I love reading people's opinions on things. It's part of the reason I hang out around here. I suspect a significant majority of people in this country found the tweet to be xenophobic, hateful, racist, stupid or some combination of all four.

I just think it's nice to have location where you can go and read the unvarnished facts about what occurred.

This issue, by the way, is certainly not new or unique to this story. I suspect they discuss this issue in journalism school and complaints about opinion creeping into news stories have probably been around as long as people have been reporting on the news.

I've never viewed shows like Chuck Todd's or Maddow's or any of the others to be "news reporting." They are really just Maury or Phil Donahue, gussied up a bit. They are there not to give you a factual account about what happened, but to attract eyeballs.

Molly Ivins was an opinion writer. It's the job of opinion writers to call people like Trump a racist. It's the job Hannity to call AOC a communist. They are trying to make people angry. They are trying to attract eyeballs.

But you lump them in with the guy from the New York Times whose only job is to report the facts and you call them all "media."

I’m beginning to think he’s pretty worried about Epstein. He basically said he’s enjoyed the hubbub over the racist tweets and I’m pretty sure that was the point.

trump is not worried about Epstein. He has no reason to be. For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone thinks rules and norms apply to trump. The Steele dossier. The Billy Bush tapes and grabbing women's privates. Stormy. Cohen. McDougal. The Mueller report. Crapping on a prisoner of war that even a good number of liberals thought was a hero and a patriot. And what of the likely reams of things that haven't YET surfaced?

trump is a lazy, entitled rich dude in a culture that worships rich dudes to the extent that many are willing to trade their dignity and even personal safety to get a 15 minute taste of it. My guess is he's forced himself on more women than I've dated and I'd bet a good number of them may have been underaged. He's probably committed rape on multiple continents. The law will not touch him. The congress doesn't have enough democrats in it to do anything. Epstein could right now be sharing photos of trump in a threesome with a dog and a 14 year old girl and his poll numbers among republicans might take a one or two point hit and maybe a couple extra republican representatives might vote on the next message of condemnation.

This is what we get when a world with "alternate facts" has been allowed to exist.
