Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

I think we all understand now why you support the mentally handicapped being able to own guns. Only someone on the Forest Gump level of brain capacity would ask that legitimately. And only a racist tool would ask it in a troll way. So which is it...

The growth of that Omar "story" is a fascinating tale of social media and some of its ills.

As I understand it, the origin was just some guy posting some speculation on a message board like this one back when she first ran for office. The post was deleted pretty quickly, but someone had seen it and sent out an email to news outlets asking about the story. News outlets then contact her and she gives them some sort of weird answer about her marriage to the father of her children, and the next thing you know it's frigging clover invading my lawn.

What I read was that she married a guy who had the same name and birthday as her brother.

There are "fair-weather" church people just like there are fair-weather sports fans... They affiliate with the group, but don't really have a clue about what's being talked about...

Those are the people cheering.

No True Scotsman, now boarding for Edinburgh.

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

The serious pundits are so worried about finding the magic "middle ground" that doesn't exist at the expense of calling a spade a spade and having any integrity. Chuck Todd being a great example but there are plenty others.

What are you talking about? I just got done saying serious pundits SHOULD NOT play the race card. That doesn't mean they should protect him or avoid being critical. It doesn't have to be on or the other. Instead or raging about him being a racist why not call out his "go home" shtick as being un-American? That would have far more appeal to a wider audience than crying, "THAT'S RACIST!!"

That doesn't mean they can't/aren't calling him out for his disgusting commentary. No one is suggesting they don't talk about it and blast him for it, but yelling about racism instead of pointing out the obvious fact that telling Americans to leave the country simply for voicing their opinions is the antithesis of what being American is all about.

And I asked this before but it wasn't answered, but if everyone under the sun - from Twitter nobodies, to B-list celebrities, to people with a serious following, to A-List serious pundits to politicians - plays the race card what will have been gained?

Trump is a racist scumbag there is no doubt - it's not even up for debate. Effing get over it and eviscerate the mother-fu**er a million different ways otherwise. At least leave the incessant crying to idiots that post on a MDSTMB who think they're smarter than everyone else. True leaders and serious commentators however should stick to the facts.

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

He's not even worth eviscerating anymore. They should cover what the Democrats are doing in the House and not even give him the time of day. Take the oxygen away from him.

Not sure this a necessary extreme, but the hand-wringing is pointless.

The problem is because of the media he has successfully labeled the Democrats as Socialists. And because the American Voter is stupid and doesn't know what that word means you have Democrats who are running for President falling for it and having to answer the question.

What the question should be is why do the Republicans want to eliminate Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security? That's what the debate is about.

And bankrupt the country.

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Thursday disavowed the “send her back” chant that broke out at his re-election rally Wednesday night when he railed against a Somali-born congresswoman, as Republicans in Congress tried to distance themselves and their party from the ugly refrain.

Mr. Trump said that he “was not happy” with the chant and that he had tried to cut it off, a claim contradicted by video of the event. Asked why he did not stop the chant, Mr. Trump said, “I think I did — I started speaking very quickly.”

In fact, as the crowd roared “send her back,” Mr. Trump looked around and seemed to bask in the enthusiastic refrain.

I saw it live.

He basked in the glow of the moment. The crowd chanted and he stood there and soaked it all in. Now he's backing down? Why? Why is he backing down? I don't get it.

Is this why?

“Those chants have no place in our party or our country,” Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the Republican leader, told reporters.

Those were almost the exact words used by Representative Tom Emmer of Minnesota, the chairman of the House Republican campaign arm, earlier Thursday, when he repudiated the chant, but insisted that the Twitter posts that appeared to have inspired the slogan had been mere mistakes of wording.

“There’s no place for that kind of talk,” Mr. Emmer said at a breakfast in Washington where he was asked about the chant. “I don’t agree with that.”

“There’s not a racist bone in the president’s body,” he added, referring to Mr. Trump’s tweets. “What he was trying to say, he said wrong.”

Oh, really, Mr. Emmer. What was he trying to say?

Was coming here to post that. He tells them to leave, his crowd joins in on the fun, and now he supposedly condemns the rhetoric?

btw for those of you stupidly arguing otherwise, did you notice that Scooby correctly called out Trump without playing the race card? The story speaks for itself.

I really do not get why he is backing down today. Usually he doubles down.

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

Lindsey Graham doubles down though.

One of President Donald Trump’s most vocal supporters in the Senate has a novel explanation for why his racist attacks against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) were not in fact racist: If she were a Trump supporter, the president wouldn’t want to send her back to Somalia.

Trump first lashed out at Omar and other liberal congresswomen of color in a series of tweets on Sunday telling them to “go back” to the countries they came from. (Of them, Omar, an American citizen, was the only one not born in the United States.) He escalated the conflict at a campaign rally Wednesday night, when he visibly enjoyed a chant of “Send her back! Send her back!” from his supporters.

But on Thursday, when asked by a reporter if Trump’s comments were racist, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) responded, “No, I don’t think it’s racist.”

His reasoning? “A Somali refugee embracing Trump would not have been asked to go back,” Graham said. “If you’re a racist, you want everybody from Somalia to go back cause they’re black or they’re Muslim.”

Susan!!! Susan Collins. We need a wipe of Lindsey's mouth again. Get Romney's handkerchief and lend him a hand please.

https://news.yahoo.com/had-nobel-prize-trump-learns-yazidi-activist-murad-232042464.html

Washington (AFP) - US President Donald Trump on Wednesday appeared unfamiliar with the work and cause of Nobel laureate Nadia Murad as she pleaded with him to help the Yazidis of Iraq.

Murad, one of thousands of women and girls from the ancient faith abducted by the Islamic State group as they overran swathes of Iraq in 2014, joined a group of survivors of religious persecution who met Trump in the Oval Office on the sidelines of a major meeting at the State Department.

After Murad explained how her mother and six brothers were killed and that 3,000 Yazidis remained missing, Trump said, "And you had the Nobel Prize? That's incredible. They gave it to you for what reason?"

With little pause, Murad, who was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year, repeated her story.

"After all this happened to me, I didn't give up. I make it clear to everyone that ISIS raped thousands of Yazidi women," she said, referring to the Islamic State group.

"Please do something. It's not about one family," she said.

Trump, who has boasted of crushing the self-styled caliphate of the Islamic State group that once stretched across Iraq and Syria, also appeared at a loss when Murad asked him to press the Iraqi and Kurdish governments to create safe conditions for the Yazidis to return.

"But ISIS is gone and now it's Kurdish and who?" Trump asked, before later telling her, "I know the area very well."

It's not just about race, it's everything. This is the same media that tripped over themselves trying to find different words than "torture" to describe waterboarding despite that being wholly unnecessary because it pretty clearly meets every standard (Geneva and otherwise) for torture.

I guess I just think you can be objective without avoiding certain words entirely or doing some round about thing where you say "prominent people have rebuked the president saying that it's racist" to accomplish the same end goal. I'm not gonna tell anyone what to prefer or whatever but it just seems unnecessary.

Instead or raging about him being a racist why not call out his "go home" shtick as being un-American? That would have far more appeal to a wider audience than crying, "THAT'S RACIST!!"

Yeah but that's like an opinion maaaaaaan and I thought we just solely wanted "objectivity" :D. I guess IDK what you're arguing here, if your argument is that it's a better angle of attack to say he's "Un-American" than "he's racist", then I'm not sure I agree but IDK what that has to do with what we were discussing. If you're arguing that it's somehow more objective or whatever then it's clearly not...

And I asked this before but it wasn't answered, but if everyone under the sun - from Twitter nobodies, to B-list celebrities, to people with a serious following, to A-List serious pundits to politicians - plays the race card what will have been gained?

At some point the people who plan to vote for this guy need to reconcile their own racism however uncomfortable that may be. The pro-Trump people already in their mind think they've cornered the market on "being true Americans!111" and the Republicans have been doing that since 9/11 or so (probably before that but the faux patriotism thing took on a new life after that). Anyone who didn't support the Iraq War doesn't love their freedom fries etc. Making people question their own racism on the other hand (and I don't mean the 33% that will vote for Trump no matter what gets revealed about him) and whether they still support him after all the blatant racism might actually help with some of the people that went Obama -> Trump or just were mad at nothing getting done in Washington for decades and voted for him etc. I could see how that might actually be more productive strategically and why it's so necessary to tie Trump to the Republican party that bends over for him.
