POTUS 45:54: My Polls Are Better Than Your Polls

Re: POTUS 45:54: My Polls Are Better Than Your Polls

Checks and balances needs an overhaul. There is effectively no way to stop a kook (or criminal, or both) party that holds the White House and a superiority-defeating strength in Congress.

The Founders didn't forsee how strong parties would become. They are force multipliers. The Federalist Papers argued that the structure of the government would protect us against a runaway faction because in a large and diverse country no one faction could ever achieve sufficient numbers to compromise the democratic integrity of the system. They based that on the assumption that factions would be scoped to limited identities -- geography, industry, trade -- and also assumptions about the intelligence and education of the electorate which are long since obsolete. This has been coming for a long time -- ever since parties became truly national. It's amazing we were lucky as long as we were.

Now, assuming nobody wants to go back to formal limits on the franchise by intelligence and education (any takers?... I thought not) we have to design additional structures to ensure government remains democratic. It's a classic "who watches the watchmen?" problem. We need to adapt our current structure to deal with the reality of a political party that puts itself ahead of the nation and an electorate that deliberately fosters and rewards that. We need to extend Madison's awareness that all men must be treated as if they are evil as a protection to an awareness that all political parties must be treated as if they are willing to engage in systemic treason.

If there was a way to break up parties that would help. If we had say an 11 major party system and you always needed 6 to get something through that would limit the more insane and lethal acts of a runaway kook/criminal party. But to have multiparty here we'd have to completely change our form of government to a Parliamentary system, which has its own problems.

Gotta disagree here Kep. The system isn't the problem. Lazy voters need to rise up and defeat Nazism. Its not anymore complicated than that. Much like Watergate, the mechanisms are in place to remove a cancerous President and members of his party. Much of that started in 2018, not just with the House flipping but with Dems gaining Gov and Sec of State positions in swing states such as WI and MI for example.

The tools are in place. Turn off American Idol for a few minutes and go vote.

But what about the voters that want Nazism?

Re: POTUS 45:54: My Polls Are Better Than Your Polls

But what about the voters that want Nazism?

The Founders did design in protections of minorities (because they were rich AF) but a protracted period of majority by a fascist party would simply mean that the fascist majority of the country would have self-determination.

We don't have a fascist majority in this country, yet. We have about 33% fascists and another 13% of so who don't consider fascism to be a deal breaker. The first chance the country got to react against fascism in 2018 they went full speed in the other direction, so there's a chance that in 2020 we'll kick these muthaf-ckas to the curb. So far what we appear to have is not an evil conservative minority who wants to harm people but a stupid conservative minority who is spiteful and incompetent to judge the consequences of their actions. In 18 months we'll find out. The people who vote for Dump 2x are quite simply fascists. Nobody is that stupid alone. There has to be genuine hatred in there too. They have to be witting.

Maybe they didn't get out to vote because stupid self-professed pundits kept guaranteeing them the election was in the bag.

Can't imagine why someone would be saying that, and then complain about "lazy" voters staying home. But, here we are.

Because you should always decide whether to participate in elections based on what random people on a message board say!!!!

Are you for real, roofie? I shudder to think of what else you've been doing based on instructions you received from the internet. Here's a hint though. If the message is from someone named "Judge Roy Moore", you might want to just go ahead and delete it...:D

Happens. People made decisions to vote based on stories about a pizza parlor pedophile ring. About a myriad of stupid crap they read on facebook and Twitter.

Being an idiot and posting idiotic chit sometimes has consequences. Own it.

Then they are lazy and stupid just like Rover said.

Agreed. A MDSTMB was not the only social medium in which the idea Trump had zero chance was discussed.

It's funny. In the work world my boss is the exact opposite of lazy and stupid, but he lives inside the Fox bubble so to this day he says all that really mattered in 2016 is we didn't elect Hillary. He completely believes all the Russian bot stuff about her.

As for Dem voters, you can't blame the customer when a product doesn't sell. If your candidate didn't win you did something wrong.

Then they are lazy and stupid just like Rover said.

Well yes. But Rover's entire shtick depends on people NOT being lazy and stupid. And that ain't never gonna happen.

Meanwhile, completely absolving himself of any effect the things he says and writes might have on the lazy and stupid.

Truth. A lot of people got paid a whole lot of money just to ensure that people would turn out and vote for Hillary. That was their only job.

To blame the voter because they sucked at their job is the cheapest form of scapegoating.

Kevin Kruse is what Twitter was invented for. It’s the only thing that keeps the glass cover over the big red button

I didn't start following him until a couple weeks back. What a great follow.

I've noticed that my timeline was starting to have more people where when I saw their post I questioned what stupid thing Trump did now. Kevin is one of those "oh, man, who's he going to slam AND give me a history lesson about?"

I like this one

Re: POTUS 45:54: My Polls Are Better Than Your Polls

I’ve been following him for quite a while now. Kruse would hate me for this, but when I first read his posts I had confused him for Bret Stephens. It was only after a week when I realized this wasn’t Stephens and then I really started to pay attention.
