If they thought a (fake) billionaire from NY had their best interests at heart they are getting exactly what they deserved. I am glad they maybe learned their lessons, but they get zero sympathy for their plight. They made their bed they can stew in it. (see also: Northern Minnesota)

If they prove they learned their lesson we can talk then. If I had a nickle for every GOPer I have met who disavowed their leader but still voted for them in November I wouldnt need to save for retirement.

Prove what? My brother has voted R for decades including first Trump and has flat out said he effed up and is done with the Rs. Eff him and his? My SVP has been a bit more centered but sadly bought into the anti-Hillary hysteria. He too knows that was wrong and said "I don't care if they literally nominate a donkey please give me a reason to vote Democrat in 2020". Eff you and your unearned feelings of superiority. People make mistakes but not all.of them should be terminal. The actual deplorables don't need to be placated, but there are plenty of others that need an intelligent and well-spoken call to arms. You and Scooby with your childish, short-sighted and ill-conceived "watch it all burn" Joker mentality can gfy.

I don't interpret them as saying eff Dems. I interpret them as saying stop chasing GOP voters. They know what they're voting for and they like it. They may be insane but they aren't misinformed. They are voting for a White Nationalist party. Deliberately.

They're not the types I'm referring to though. The 35% can burn but don't assume every Trump voter was part of that contingent.

Sounds like you come from a family of dupes. I'm shocked, shocked I tell ya. But anybody with the sense God gave the common dog should have known what Trump was going to be. Now, you and your pals can prove to us that you're not irredeemable by voting Dem next year. No offense, but I'm not just taking your word for it that these people have changed stripes. Lets see them prove it first.

Well said and after decades of doing slightly more than nothing for the average voter I can see why some people, whose material conditions have objectively worsened under both D and R administrations, might've been desperate enough to vote for the guy who claimed he was going to up-heave the entire system. Yes that was dumb and I don't really feel bad for them if they got screwed in that deal but we do need some of them back to win the states back that we lost last time around.

Voting for (depending on one's political bent) Clinton in 1992, or Dukakis in 1988 or George W. Bush in 2000 or for practically any other major party candidate for president in my lifetime (I've been voting since Reagan) could be considered a "mistake," sure. But you are giving far too much credit to people who voted for trump to call that a mistake. Only someone truly very stupid could have voted for trump in 2016 and not known what we were actually going to get. Any one of his many transgressions was enough to disqualify him, whether it be the racism, the misogyny, the lies about his wealth and taxes, the absolute lack of any real qualifications for the job, the list is really endless. Added together, anyone who voted for him cannot really be forgiven for that vote. Do I think they need to be condemned to Hell? No, not for 2016. But for those who vote for him again (or for the first time) in 2020? Yes, definitely. You cannot vote for him now -- barring someone being mentally enfeebled and incompetent -- unless you too are a racist or misogynist or truly want war or truly do not care about anyone but the wealthiest among us.

Nobody (or at least your average midwest voter) cares about any of this stuff if they think someone is going to bring back industry to the rust belt and allow their family to earn a decent living, especially as it's being ravaged by the opioid industry and little was done about it. It was certainly naive to expect that was ever going to happen but it's a better answer than, "America is already great, Pokemon go to the polls and vote for me so I can sign the TPP bill!". It's not like Hillary had a gleaming record when it came to racism or being trustworthy either.
But for those who vote for him again (or for the first time) in 2020? Yes, definitely. You cannot vote for him now -- barring someone being mentally enfeebled and incompetent -- unless you too are a racist or misogynist or truly want war or truly do not care about anyone but the wealthiest among us.

No argument here, though that's something that can only be changed (going forward, not just this next election) via the olds dying and the future generation hopefully receiving a better education (which is why I think something like free college is so important).

But she did have a gleaming pile of policy proposals on what she was going to do to help those people displaced by loss of industry, or ravaged by opioids. They didn't want to hear it, cause "that biitch".

And so, they reap the whirlwind. Didn't have to be this way. They chose this way.
