I'm still trying to figure out what's conservative about destroying the environment and why we can't create jobs and make things and be good stewards of the Earth at the same time.
But, apparently that's the case cause we needed those coal jobs and to have coal jobs we have to destroy fresh water streams, lakes, and rivers.

I don't know if the GOP are fascists. They have certainly taken the fork in the road down the path to a plutocracy and kleptocracy. I believe there are conservatives, by a more traditional definition, in the GOP.
Their silence on the Russia investigation is telling though. George W. Bush even has a chill up his spine about what the current GOP is doing.

I don't think there are any more actual conservatives in the GOP. There are conservatives in the US, probably more than there are fascists, but they've been shut out of the party, and worse they are turning a deliberate blind eye to them. We see it on this forum, with people who should know better using casuistry to soft pedal the GOP's headlong rush into authoritarianism.
If we can get through this next four years and then scour the GOP from the government we may be safe. The virulent animal hatred that motivates the Deplorables will never die out entirely, but it is very much an Old Man's disease, and mother nature will take care of that. There will be an actual conservative right again someday, but the GOP itself will need a thorough De-Nazification.

That may not matter. The DOJ mostly operates as a check on the strong's abuse of the weak. This administration has already shown it doesn't care about that. If the Republican mission were to be summed up in one sentence, it would be "To harm the weak."
