POTUS 45.5 - Sweden is Under Attack

Re: POTUS 45.5 - Sweden is Under Attack

The fact that the government can't require a mandatory recall like with other consumer products is troubling.

I have a massive, massive problem with that. I can't see any reason why the government can't order a recall of firearms if they are deemed (and I have to word this very carefully) unsafe due to a manufacturing defect.

Why would any reasonable person disagree?

I certainly agree with it and view it more as product safety issue versus a gun issue. The problem that can happen is that it can get politicized and guns arbitrarily banned. This is actually the case in mass right now.

I drove a Pinto among the Bay Area crazies for a couple of years and didn't die in an exploding ball of fire, so I guess I've been lucky at times.

Yup, that beats me. I went into the Cornell all campus lottery twice. There were about 4000 entrants each time. The first time I drew #2. The second time I drew #13.

So I used all my lottery luck up on getting a West campus single. Pretty sweet room, though.

No, I've just had a close relative (a cousin who was more like a sister) murdered by her abusive husband.

Would you like a link to the "48 Hours" piece on her story?

No because I believe you. I was asking a question not spitting in your face I promise you.

Actually when you were there the view was nicer because those godawful new residence halls weren't there.

And that is the only case where it would ever be used. They've been trying any way possible for back door gun bans, whether it's ammunition bans, made-up mental health issues to get people on dangerous pharmaceuticals...

The story (real? urban legend?) is that Glocks explode. Yet, they remain a preferred handgun of local LEOs. And they're made in Austria. How do you recall those? Is it the responsibility of the US distributor? If it's real, Glock (or their US proxy) should be made to deal with the issue*.

I don't know if that's real or not; however, I chose to not own a Glock.

*Recall? Send out replacement part if it's something the owner can do?

True story. Sometime in the 1970's I purchased a Remington 1100 shotgun. Maybe 20 years ago, and 20 years after I bought the gun, I received one of those mailings we often receive saying that I was included in a class action lawsuit in which it was alleged the barrel was deficient and could blow up in your face when fired.

I eagerly awaited my large settlement check, and probably 9 months later I got a check in the mail for $12.79, as I recall. I took that more as a commentary on my face than the actual amount of my "damages", but I haven't fired that shotgun since.

Meanwhile, the laywers who filed it have long since retired to their yachts in the Caymans.

We've been over this: Just because you win World Series Game 1 by seven runs doesn't mean you win the Series if the other side wins Game 2-5 by one run per.

More deflection but why change your m.o. now? No one is arguing here to remove Trump because he lost the popular vote, they're calling bull#### that his winning the eclectoral signifies either a mandate or sone grandiose reflection of a changing tide of values. Trump lost because Hillary was awful, unlikable, ran a sh#t campaign and many of her voters stayed home. That collective "w t f" being exhaled daily is coming from far more than just Hillary voters. At some point you'll come clean here and feel better about it. We're here to help. :)

When have I said Trump has a mandate? He has nothing of the sort. And Bernie would've shown better against him. Biden would've beaten Trump. Heck, the Veeps on the ticket were better choices than the top liners.

I didn't vote for him, but for another 47 months, Mr. Trump is the President. It is what it is. And, frankly, if economic optimism stays high* and the next recession doesn't arrive, he could well be there for 95 months.

*That's the one item that Mr. Obama never instilled. The current indicators all show a long slow recovery; it's currently second longest; it's not long until it'll be longest. The key leading indicators of the next recession haven't appeared fully yet. If Trump keeps the economy building but not so much as to inflate and trigger the next down cycle he'll claim it and more than likely win off of it.

So what did you do with it? Did you throw it away? Destroy it? Put it on display?
It's just sitting in one of my closets, collecting dust.

As I recall the lawsuit, I think the problem had to do with the change in ammunition that occurred between when I bought the gun in the '70's and the 1990's, when the lawsuit took place. In the 1970's, lead shot was still commonly used. Beginning in the 1980's, the state and federal government began banning the use of lead shot, especially around water areas. Ducks would feed on the shot and get poisoned. As I recall, steel shotgun shells were causing damage to these old barrels, resulting in their failure.

Apparently you can buy a replacement barrel for the 1100 that won't blow up. I've just never gotten around to it. By the time of the lawsuit, I'd already purchased a newer gun. I had hung onto the 1100 for sentimental reasons (unrelated to the lawsuit), and still have it to this day.

Wait, was the 1100 included in this lawsuit? I thought this was just rifles.
As I said, I think the lawsuit was back about 20 years ago, and I'm not 100% sure what models were involved, beyond what I posted above.

Also, Obama left office with our special forces and allies steadily advancing against a surrounded ISIS and victory imminent, but he didn't brag about it enough. In another 2-3 months, it will be Trump claiming "total victory" over ISIS while barely being aware of what has been going on over there.

You don't have to tell me. Proud UHall 5 1981-2 resident who used to drink in the Fish Bowl legally as a freshman before they raised the drinking age.

Obama was funding ISIS and did jack squat to actually attack them.
