For a long time, I thought Drew was not trolling because he had never shown the wit for it. Most trolls do if for amusement. Never saw that from him. I do think it's possible he trolls for cover sometimes because he really is that delayed.

The whole bit with the Obama/Trump and 5G, it's only too obvious. And I think his trolling has been new within only the last few months, but it's steadily increased.

He's reached the Interzone, where what he says seriously and what he says trolling are perfectly aligned. He's where Flaggy was about 5 years ago, before he renounced all pretext of humor and just went full-on unironic insane.

The last funny conservative was Chesterton*, and even he was an insufferable gas bag 50% of the time. Humor requires empathy so it rules out nearly all conservatives. Their neural deficiencies just don't line up right. Their idea of funny is watch what happens when I pull this animal's leg off, hurr hurr.

* Churchill was witty, not funny. Many conservatives are witty, because the requirement there is a feral ability to sniff out weakness -- in an argument, or a person. I'd actually say conservatives are on the whole far more witty than liberals, precisely because they lack self-awareness.

And yes, I say this fully aware that I am witty, not funny. You play the hand you're dealt.

Truth. At this moment in time it’s hard to envision the Republican Party ever finding their way again. At the same time there is quite a lot I find distasteful about the Democrats.

I could have conceived of a trump, but not of a party that would nominate him and certainly not of that many people willing to vote for him.

Sarah Palin was the first clue that there are some forces in America willing to send even the most ill-prepared, harebrained people to execute the highest offices in the land.

Good point. Different in kind and scale from Mr. Potatoe. And Palin and Trump both appealed to the same growing base in the Republican party.
