I admit, I was pumped that Palin was on the ticket. Sweet! A female candidate! Then she started talking. And I banged my head against the wall enough to get a few concussions.

Next 18 days will make or break Mitch's career and the GOP as a whole.

What is the punishment if he ignores it? The same as refusing to consider a nominated Supreme Court Justice?

I say he blows it off.

Mitch doesn't care about this and it does nothing to his career. His career is made. Kavanaugh and Gorsuch along with all the Judges that are now in the system did that.

It has little to do with Itch and more for the Goopers up for re-election next year. Assuming Murkowski votes in favor that puts the onus on Gardner, Collins, and McSally in particular.

The Dems are playing this perfect. We can if they lose they are making sure every argument against them when that pull this bs in 4 years has been put to rest.

It's quite likely McSally will vote against it. Collins will spend two weeks hemming and hawing over it, before announcing at the 11th hour that she met with Trump and received assurances that he won't abuse the emergency declaration, so she's voting against.

In what way? I don't really know what choice he has here. He can trade in all of his favors to get enough votes to squash it, and maybe that doesn't hurt him in particular, but then there will be a lot of Senators in purple states having to do a lot of explaining in the next 2 election cycles, where the GOP has the bulk of seats to defend.

I do not want a Democratic president to be able to declare a national emergency to subvert the Congress' power of the purse even if it is funds my #1 priority.

This is a horrible, horrible, horrible precedent. It is incredibly dangerous to the separation of powers. I do not give a sh-t which party is doing it. If I'm in Congress in 10 years when President AOC runs this gambit to fund the summary execution of the 1%, I vote it down.

This, but if Republicans approve of this now, then it's precedent and they can get bent when a Dem does it.
