POTUS 45:48: There's Always Barber College

Re: POTUS 45:48: There's Always Barber College

Where did I say it was ok? I think I've been pretty clear on this board that I oppose executive orders or any other sort of unilateral action by the President to just decide what the law is or should be. This is no different. I was simply responding to some posters here who were gleefully looking into the future, and before they rubbed themselves raw I wanted to throw a little cold water their way by reminding them that whatever sort of "national emergencies" they want their President to implement in 2021, there still are the constitutional constraints, and the practical constraints of "where is the money actually going to come from."

So we are waiting for you an your people to fully condemn the moron in the white house. Call your reps and make sure they know.

Until then, you can complain about people gleefully waiting for the future, and we will ignore you.

And why do R's really care about "where the money comes from"???? Since when has that actually mattered? Ever? Dumpy will just make it up, just like R's give tax breaks to totally inflate the deficit.

Re: POTUS 45:48: There's Always Barber College

You're arguing something completely different from my point.

Yeah, we all spend a ton of money on health insurance or health care, and if we just switched it so that we had medicare for all, it might not be that much more expensive. That may or may not be true. I really have no idea. Furthermore, I personally think that a single payer system is probably the way we'll end up having to go, because the current system certainly doesn't solve any problems.

But the point of my posts was to respond to claims that a democrat holding the office of president in 2021 will be able to follow Trump's lead and declare a national emergency, this time on health care, and implement a medicare for all system. My response was hogwash. How exactly are you going to use national emergency powers to get that accomplished.

Do you know the overhead on run of the mill health insurance? It’s something like 20-30 percent. Do you know what the overhead on Medicare is? 3-5%.

Re: POTUS 45:48: There's Always Barber College

Sure, there is a lot of money sitting out there. Although honestly $200 billion is just a fraction of what you'd need for a full roll out of the green new deal, medicare for all, etc...

But that's the question this hypothetical president will have to face in 2021. You going to pull $200 billion out of the military budget to put solar panels up everywhere? Lot of senators and congresscritters living in states or districts pretty dependent upon the military budget.

Dude, just be a Republican and proud of it- debt and deficits don't matter. Tax cuts for people who don't need them is all that matters.

R's complaining about budgets and money is funny- given what your representation has done to the budget.

Pretty pathetic to complain about that now.

Back in the ACA debate days, I did a rough calculation that showed that the sum of all private insurance paid would easily pay for all Americans when one changed the overhead from 15% to 4%. And have some left over.

The idea that we allow companies to launder our money when doctors should be paid is sad. Health care companies add nothing what so ever to the system, other than taking money away from providers and give it to shareholders. They take away by putting hard limits on what can be done, and who you can see for health treatment.

It's a moronic system that is hardly moral.

Re: POTUS 45:48: There's Always Barber College

Just did cut one of our taxes. Our taxes lowered, but not the amount that we were promised. And we are in one of the upper income ranges.

And doing them, planning for next year, charities are going to get totally screwed. The only ones I'm happy will get screwed are the Evangelical churches, as that instantly just went from a tax deduction charity to just another bill for 99% of Americans.

This sums it up well

That’s why I’m in favor of it, it’s a much more efficient system.

Re: POTUS 45:48: There's Always Barber College

Has Trump explained how he could have allowed this emergency to develop after two years in office with his party controlling both houses. Was he just not paying attention or what?

I look forward to installing my "Boeing/Northop Grumman Joint Venture, Made in the USA, solar panels" on my house by 2024.

Also cannot wait to have it all controlled by a Lockheed Martin electrical grid interface controller.

Because if you think those companies are going to miss the boat on that sweet, sweet funding, I got a wall I'll sell you...

Pickles was supposed to alert him.

Re: POTUS 45:48: There's Always Barber College

"National Emergencies" should be a stop-gap action until Congress can act. The longest one should ever be active should be measured in weeks.

In this case Congress did (finally) act. They've made their choices; the Executive should let them bask in the consequences (good or bad).

I'm not a fan of made-up or convenient emergencies.

Nor am I a fan of a $22,000,000,000,000.00 debt that keeps being added to.

Tesla's already in the game. Those folks would be late-comers.

Congress did act. Congress told him to go f-ck himself.

As for the debt, halve the Department of War budget, claw back the $10T we gave away to the rich since 1981, raise taxes back to Eisenhower's levels, and stop wasting blood and treasure for the foreign policy aims of Saudi Arabia. Problem solved.

I can't believe Facebook doesn't allow me to mark myself safe from the National Emergency. More evidence they're ignoring it as part of the Deep State Fake News Media State!

I think you have to wait until the wall is built then you can make yourself safe.

Lots of people living in states with high state taxes that they can't write off anymore.

So, to those states dependent upon the military? Eff em. Diversify your industry. Modernize. Quit living off the government teat. Greater good.

And that's $200+ billion per year. Couple that with 70% top tax rate and a wealth tax, and there's a good start.

But you're another Sic. "We can't do it, how can we afford it?". Whiny little fatalists.
