POTUS 45:47: I Never Said There Was No Collusion!

Both sides are being babies about it now. Trump started it (to continue the point of my post) and the Dems are continuing it. Shutting down the proposals, okay, makes sense, to do otherwise is just giving in, which would be BS. The SOTU? Meh, kinda petty. It's proper and legal and all that, let him have his limelight to spew more BS, and show you're the better person. Let him win the battle, so you can win the war, you know? Choose the points in this storyline where you really come down hard.

Both Sides Are Babies So Vote Republican?

Horse hockey. There is grandstanding and then there is grandstanding and sometimes one of them is based upon principle.

-Trump could end the shutdown at any time while negotiations take place.
-Trump promised Mexico would pay for the wall yet he's holding 800,000 Americans hostage.
-Most Americans do not believe in building a wall at taxpayer expense.
-Most Americans find the President to be at fault for this situation.
-The Democrats have offered funding that will go towards increased border security.
-A bill agreed to by both sides is sitting on McConnell's desk but he refuses to pass it onto the President.

Anyone focusing upon Pelosi for the situation we are in is completely ignoring how we got here and how easily Trump could end it.

This. What a crock of **** for” both sides”. Shows some truly just won’t give blame to one side even if it’s clear cut. Next time I see a kid having a tantrum I’m telling the mom to quit being such a ***** and start negotiating.

Also Stone was arrested. Such a nothing berder

Re: POTUS 45:47: I Never Said There Was No Collusion!

I NEVER said the Dems should cave on the shutdown. Them denying the SOTU is being a bit childish, IMO. Let Trump win that little battle, so the Dems can win the shutdown war. It would show that the Dems are not petty like Trump and won't quibble over little things.

Sheesh.

you've obviously never raised a child. You don't give into the toddler having a temper tantrum. Not even an inch (the SOTU)

The Dems have spent the last 30 years taking the high road in regards to the Republicans, and what has it got them?

Have Repubs quit with the smear attacks and the incivility? Have they had policy debates on the merits? Have they attempted bipartisan consensus and compromise?

This shutdown was a power play by the Repubs and the Russian Asset, to continue governing as if the 2018 midterms hadn't happened. To concede on any of this by the Dems is to concede that point, and to neuter them before even taking office.

As I said, Red Don enjoys nothing more than the spotlight, to be the center of attention, to bask in the adoring adulation of tens of hundreds. The SOTU address is what he craves. To give him that bully pulpit to spout his racist rhetoric unchallenged is to cede the upper hand to him. He's feeling no downside to this shutdown. This hits him like getting no paycheck hits 800,000 federal employees. Perhaps it might be painful enough for him to reconsider his course.

Bout time someone stood up to him, on something.

Re: POTUS 45:47: I Never Said There Was No Collusion!

I've read this three times. It makes literally no sense. I'll grant all the words in it are English, but it doesn't connect up with any real meaning. Is it slam poetry or something?

Slam Poetry, eh?

I guess I didn't expect it would be that confusing.

Here is how I look at this. The first question is, do we think Trump wanted/wants this shutdown? I think the answer is an obvious "yes." Besides feeding into his infantile need to feel like he is in control, like any other madman who takes hostages he probably thinks it is a method that will lead to him getting what he wants.

Next question, is the shutdown a good thing? Again I think the answer is pretty obvious, "no." Because Trump wants it, almost by default the answer should be "no," but in general I don't think putting a bunch of federal employees at risk of financial ruin is that great of an idea. Granted I personally think the District and it's bedroom communities of northern Virginia are pretty much the cesspool of all human existence, but I'm not a sadist.

So, if Trump wants the shutdown, and the shutdown is certainly bad, why are we more than happy to sit here and let him have it, all the while gleefully proclaiming that he "owns" it?

I thought Chuck and Nancy are smart? Negotiate with the guy. He's an idiot. Offer him a jar of magic beans. Tell him that if you ever come across a picture of AOC nekkid you'll share it with him. Pretty much any shiny object is guaranteed to grab his attention.

Yeah, it would be nice if like other hostage situations we could just send in the Israeli's and have them solve the problem. But short of that, I don't see how shouting at the madman "you will do this, this and that" will solve the problem. That means you're left waiting to see when he tires of the game and decides to let the hostages go on his own, which he most certainly will do. But that kind of sucks for the hostages, so don't you think we at least owe it to them to try?

So it's bad when D's put dumpy in the same place that he's trying to put them.... Ok.

Especially when everyone knows that this idiot gets off being in front of a crowd. Give me a break- it's politics, sure. But it's not childish. Get over it.

So much of the government is not working, so why should the rest of the government run as if nothing is wrong??? Why should the moron get his time on his own while people are suffering?

If you think it's childish, sometimes you need to treat a child like a child.

So you think negotiating with government worker jobs over a policy thing is an appropriate tactic?

That's all this is.

And given the mindset of the moron, he'll do it again, as he's NEVER negotiated in good faith.

Of course not. But what is the alternative? We can "teach" him that this is not an acceptable method by refusing to negotiate. I have no objection to that, on a personal level, but then again I'm not a federal worker. It just seems to me to be a bit cruel to tell the federal workers that we're not going to negotiate with the madman because we need to teach him a lesson.

It's been almost 5 weeks. Unless he caves, he's never going to learn anything.

BTW, it's interesting that we are getting more and more "both sideism" and "D's should capitulate" the closer we are getting to R's and dumpy giving in, and letting the process work correctly. Funny how that works out, like a last second ploy to hope to save face.

Re: POTUS 45:47: I Never Said There Was No Collusion!

It’s more cruel to shut them down over and over which is what he’ll do if it works.

3 branches of gov. Someone needs to convince him this isn’t working. Nows the time he’d go find a new wife.

Now is the time for dumpy to head to Moscow for meetings, and ask for asylum. The walls are closing in.

It is fascinating how he lost the House of Representatives and he didn't change strategy at all. He is the Republican Party. They own this for the next two to three cycles at least.

This isn't a normal Presidency. Therefore, you can't negotiate in the normal way. Being "petty" and denying Trump his SOTU hurts him more then his cratering approval rating would to a normal politician. He loves the trappings of the job more than the actual job. Denying that brought more out of him in the last month

Here is a question for you and others here. If a deal could be brokered that ended the shutdown, did not call for any wall funding, but somehow allowed Trump to "save face," would you be in favor of it? I suspect for some of you here the answer is "no."

Sure. But that's impossible at this point. If he doesn't get the wall he can't save face. And that's a corner the greatest negotiating mind of a generation painted himself.

Re: POTUS 45:47: I Never Said There Was No Collusion!

Just saw he said it’s not a big deal because grocery stores will float you credit for food. I get that he’s old and rich, but when is the last time that was actually done? 1960s?
