POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

Sorry but I disagree. You dont get to play all concerned and offended and then have them on. You want to play the middle fine go for it. But Jake Tapper and Don Lemon arent helping in any way, they are just giving these clowns free airtime to spout their crap. Then they attack the clowns which the clowns then use to back up that they are being treated unfairly.

The election of Trump and the rise of racist, misogynistic ********s DESPITE near constant ripping of them proves that the "exposing it" idea doesnt work. CNN isnt changing any minds on the Right or Left they are just playing Jerry Springer style games in the hopes the conflict breeds ratings.
I agree with SS, for two reasons.

First, the nonsense is going to get voiced somewhere. Having someone present who is picking it apart is helpful.

Second, when crazies wish to self identify on a mass basis, they should be encouraged to do so.

That's right, keep voting to have your face eaten.

So you're saying this is Powell reacting to tweets and that rates aren't really neutral as Powell said today? I'm a little skeptical. I believe rates really are neutral (see my post earlier today about stocks in bear state) meaning they are where they should be for a while. I think rates need to stay here a while and let folks get used to the notion of home mortgages rates now starting with a 5 or 6 and not a 3 or 4. The Fed needed to dial the knob to here to have margin in case they need it later.

You think Powell reacted; I suspect Trump (OK, Kudlow, because Trump's not that smart) foresaw the Fed backing down the rate of increases given present economic data and Trump pre-Tweeted so as to appear powerful and influencing Powell.

No, I'm saying that Powell made a point of saying that rates were neutral, to belay criticism from Red Don about the Fed's intention to raise them, as the Fed had previously said at several points in the past.

Red Don didn't like that, attacked the Fed for it, so now Powell grovels before him.

When can we ever stop the BS that we really care about veterans?

Make them stand up at events, only to not pay for anything- what a BS ploy.

And the constant ads for groups that pretend to take care of vets is depressing.

OUR GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF VETERANS. If we constantly thank them, then show it in REAL ways by making sure their education is paid for and they have health care that is in proportion to their service (so if someone manages to fully retire in the military, they get healthcare for the rest of their lives, regardless. And then fair going down based on service time and kind of service.)

So Cohen is getting a new charge of lying to Congress. Deutsche bank was just raided.

Cue drew saying Russian investigation needs to end

I'm with Handy on this. CNN doesn't have anybody pick apart the lunatics (neither does NPR for that matter). They merely do a "both sides" presentation and then go to commercial. I'm not going to do it justice but the late Molly Irvins had a quote about the news media thinking that if they have one person on who says Hitler was a monster and then another who says he was a swell guy, they basically feel like they've done their job. Journalism should be about trying to report the truth, not give everyone an equal platform otherwise you'll have Holocaust deniers showing up on national network shows to give their views with no pushback lest the networks be accused of "bias".

But here's where I disagree. If we're talking about the NYT or the Washington Post or someone writing a story about a new climate change report by some scientist, no I don't think they should run to climate change deniers every time to get a comment.

But shows like Cuomo's or Maddow's or any of the others aren't "journalism" in the sense of reporting the news. They are intended to be exactly what they are: Basically a moderated forum between panelists of the moderator's choosing. It's basically three, four or five people sitting around in a bar arguing politics, without the alcohol.

Maddow doesn't spread lies and conspiracies. Got to go to Fox for that.

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

I think that would fly a decade ago but nowadays they dont pass themselves off as entertainment (unless they screw something up then they use that to hide) they pass themselves off as news. These people break news, they have press credentials and act (and are treated) as an authority on these matters.

And even if I did buy that argument, there is a HUGE difference between 4 drunks arguing at a bar and Jake Tapper having them on a TV show. Not to mention the fact that the people they whine about the most are the people they have on their show. Then they halfass their response face to face which basically proves it is all faux outrage anyways.

If you are upset about the thing people say dont give them a platform with which to do it. Just because we all have the right to free speech doesnt mean you have to allow them to use your show to push their agenda. Maybe in a different climate I wouldnt think this way but when things are this divided you arent doing anything but dividing it more and then you make yourself look disingenuous when you later make the moral argument against what they said. You are doing nothing but profiteering off it which makes you part of the problem.

Just because Faux News has success using this type of model doesnt mean everyone else has to as well.

Cohen apparently lied to Congress about the Trump Tower Moscow project. It was still in negotiations through June of 2017. He told Congress that is was done by the Iowa Caucuses. Whoops.

He said it cost $30M all of two days ago. It's almost like he's making everything up.
