Oh I am still around...just got bored with the whining on the hockey side and so I tend to avoid it.

Wait, you got bored with the whining on the hockey side, so you decided to hang out full time in Cafe??? How's that working out? :p

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

Well, come January 3rd, if something comes out that implicates Trump and Pence, the next person up is.........?

It won't matter. Republicans hold a 3-seat margin in the Senate, and even if Mueller comes back with the proverbial "smoking gun" on both of them, there's no way Senate Republicans have the courage to impeach Trump and Pence, let alone Trump.

Wait, you got bored with the whining on the hockey side, so you decided to hang out full time in Cafe??? How's that working out? :p

:D

I do find the average IQ of a poster in the Cafe to be slightly (I do emphasize slightly) higher than the average D1 poster.

As sad as it is to say...this is WAY better. The hockey side used to be like this only it was about line combos and refs screwing every team even when they win. And lets not forget the riveting discussions on the intricacies of the PWR. Half of the board was full on trolling and the rest was canned responses by the same 5 people depending on which teams thread it was.

At least here if you want to avoid certain topics you can. I prefer to talk politics to hockey anyways ;)

I still read over there from time to time...takes about 5 minutes before I leave.

You're obviously forgetting about the scintillating discussion every year regarding BU screwing over long time season ticket holders who aren't donating 5 figures to the hockey program...:D

So...that link shows as a deleted account on my PC, but I'll assume the POTUS was not saluting to the military personnel around him. If that's the case, then that's well within normal protocol. In fact, the first POTUS to ever have been photographing his military guards when entering or exiting the White House, Air Force One, or Marine One, was Reagan. Think of people like Eisenhower and JFK, known military heroes from WWII, and they never saluting their guards.

It became an unwritten standard after Reagan because to not do it looked disrespectful. Reagan started it because he had a clear political need to bring the military even more to his side.

Dow getting hammered again today...Negotiator in Chief is probably working on a way to fix this all though. Clown better hope he does before the Fed raises rates or things could dicey.

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

"Abolish the Senate!"

Admittedly, I've been a staunch supporter of "well this is how the rules have always been, let's keep them," but this is yet another good point as to why the Senate is sliding into a disproportionate representation and hints that the Electoral College is headed there too (obviously after 2000 and 2016).

I like the idea of a merger, and would at least like to see some States start at least a trial run for a merged session for a few years.

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

All of that requires multiple Constitutional Amendments. Have fun getting those passed and ratified.

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

Speaking of the Constitution, anyone notice that subpoenas were issued for the Emoluments Clause lawsuits yesterday?

IMHO, this one will be a lot harder to hide behind, since it's a direct law IN the original Constitution that limits what the President can do. Not some kind of law that congress passed that is in violation, but something directly linked to the founding fathers.

And one that people who claim to be anti globalist should be 110% behind, since it's all about foreign state money going to the President- which is bad.

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

Think of it as a broken clock being right twice a day, or the sun shining on a dog's arse. This could be the ONE time, Trump asked someone, "Ok, how do you do the thing with the thing, so I don't get mocked/ridiculed?"

I doubt it, but it could happen. We've seen weirder things. :)
Heh.

Serving as Trump's protocol officer would be a good second career for Maytag repairmen who couldn't handle the workload and the stress....

I think this merely replaces one set of problems with a different set of problems. For example you can't gerrymander the Senate.

The solution is much simpler, which is people have to participate more in elections. First thing Dems need to do the next time they control Congress and WH is sweeping voter rights legislation. Once accomplished people need to show up and vote, preferably against the Nazis who have taken over the GOP.

Perhaps NC, Michigan and Wisconsin are dry runs for what the republicans plan to do next time a D wins the presidency and they have the votes in the chambers to ram stuff through.

That's my thinking as well, since this trend started.

Dems made it easier nationally by invoking the Nuclear Option a few years back, Republicans returned the favor. I can honestly see it swinging to a simple majority if the Repubs get super power once again.

That definitely seems to be where we're headed.

The Republican Party needs to be put in time-out at all levels for at least a decade.

And where are the conservatives who don’t like this? Perhaps I’m not searching enough but where are the Rs saying how this is wrong? Or is it really condoned so they can keep power? Because they won’t stop at three states . They are literally ignoring the will of the voters

Don't think so. First, I think that these are grassroots decisions...just an opinion. Second, it appears you'd need a constituency that is close to 50/50 or greater in favor of the GOP to maintain it - which the US is not. The national GOP can't keep either house indefinitely like it can in states like WI or ND. Of course, I could be wrong.

The Senate is already effectively gerrymandered through the increasing urban/rural political divide -- more Democratic voters are crammed into fewer states.

I'm guessing you're talking about the House.

The Senate is even worse as Wyoming gets the same number of votes as California.
