POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

My Echo Chamber is 99% of the world's media, stretching across the entire political spectrum. Your "Truth" is a handful of fat old impotent racists on the far rightwing fringe sending out mimeographs from their bunkers.

I'll take my chances, Zarathustra. :p

Just remember, his most trusted news source claims that tap water makes frogs gay.

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

Who's disappointed? I am delighted. It's civil disobedience 101.

When fascism leaves America it will be driven away by meeting postponements and strangled by red tape. :)

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

I'd still like to know how Sic thinks Obama was not a statesman.

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

I dunno. I think he could have easily taken more of a McCain approach. I have a feeling that since Pio probably grew up hating the commies that he could be enraged by Trump's actions.

But then again, he could have been all in as well.
I feel like a lot of people who grew up during the cold war still have a ton of cognitive dissonance going on here and would support Trump despite it. Heck they do it despite the fact that all these scandals are significantly worse than EMAILZ.

And yet your ilk is trying to make it leave with... wait for it... FASCISM!

The leaks keep coming.

If Trump officials broke the Logan Act, nail them. There was a swing and miss, the media didn't get it out there, on catching a Logan Act violation when Mr. Obama sent a civilian to the Iranian mullahs to make nice-nice in 2008. That tells me that besides "power corrupts" and "Party first" the other standard in the Beltway is try to get away with more than the last guy.
When the guy you voted for is in trouble better come up with some combination of false equivalenices and Obama deflection.

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

tl; dr: In theory, small government conservatism is a valid philosophy. In practice, it's a racket.
You're absolutely right. And now with Trump, we're getting to where conservatism isn't even given the barest lip service (he ran on huge infrastructure projects and gleefully embraces all kinds of dictatorial corruption and central control). The only conservative thing about him is "reducing regulation" but even that is so aimless and wrongheaded as to do more harm than good ("let's get rid of the regulations that dent our corporate profits... but add more regulations about biometric screening of brown people that want to travel or vote"...) Yet my friends who are among the mass delusion are still saying that Trump is unpopular because liberals just hate conservatives. It drives me crazy. He should be hated by conservatives. The more I try to talk sense the more they double down.
I used to be a party-independent conservative. Trump single-handedly turned me into an enthusiastic partisan Democrat. For at least 8 years. Every single open seat should go to a D in 2018.

Oh, Kep ... always watch the magician's other hand. Even the magician you think you trust. (I'm learning to trust no magician.)

"Obama Executive Order Pushes Us Closer To A North American Union And A One World Economic System" <-- crazy sounding to grab attention headlines

The following is how this new executive order was assessed in a recent Businessweek article:

So, paradigm shift. From what to what? To international international regulatory cooperation. That's not me, that's BusinessWeek.

As a person who has to deal with regulations- I want to point out that the EO that you posted is very good for business. If all of North America used the same rules for what I work on, then there would not be an advantage or disadvantage in Canada or Mexico. Plus, there's some who would like the EU and China to have the same rules at the US.

That's how I read that EO.

And I'm not sure why that is so evil. It's really good for our very international industry.

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

We're not headed toward fascism, by whatever definition one chooses to use today. (Remember, the Italian fascists were both politically left and right.)

I think we're merely trading one pathocracy for another.

So how do you affect Ottawa or Mexico City when you have no elected representation there and they change the rules?

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

Which was a vote for Trump in this election. Sorry, that's just the facts.

That's silly, unless you want to count those actually casting a ballot for Trump as 2 votes for him.

When you win a game you gain a half game in the standings. When you lose a game you lose half a game. Sic got rained out. No change in the standings. At worst his opportunity cost was the half game he could have gained by voting for Clinton, but by his refusal to vote Sic was saying he had no preference between Clinton and Trump. A lot of people followed suit, and here we are in the End Times. But it's not the non-voters' fault.

The arsonists are the ones who started this fire -- the actual Trump voters. The firemen were the Hillary voters and we didn't have enough strength to put the fire out. Now it's true that Sic just walked by with his hands in his pockets and didn't help the firemen. But that doesn't make him an arsonist. At worst it just makes him lazy or irresponsible. But in his defense, Sic didn't (and apparently doesn't) believe fire is bad.

The funny thing, I didn't see Sic contorting himself to make excuses for what Obama was doing. In fact, here he is, still telling us what a horrible man he was.

But there's nothing Trump can do where he won't tie himself in knots trying to soft-pedal it or make it seem like it's really not anything noteworthy at all. But he still isn't a supporter and didn't vote for the guy.

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

We're not headed toward fascism, by whatever definition one chooses to use today.

Except for this one (from a far right source). Bold is Trump.

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread
domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Trump is batting either 10 or 11 for 14, depending on how you feel about Comey and the Russians with their fingers on the scale, and moving up with a bullet. You can't just wish it away because of that annoying letter after his name. This is a proto-fascist attempting to consolidate power and eliminate democracy in America. You can either help or get out of the way, but if you keep denying it just on your partisan feewies, that makes you an enabler.

I'm soul-searching. I think my vote was the guy who saw the house on fire and ran over, but to throw in a kitten through an open window. (that's not quite right... I was 100% sure in my own mind that Hillary would win MI: I thought it was a false alarm)
