So if 2 women walk into my business wearing "we are lesbians" t-shirts, I can notify them in a calm, polite manner that I will not serve them, that is ok? What if the t-shirts say "all puppies must die" and there are decapitated dogs on the back? Aren't all forms of discrimination unacceptable?

No. We discriminate every day in the decisions we make, and it's necessary. I may choose to buy my groceries at store A instead of store B. That is discrimination.

The only discrimination that is unacceptable is illegal discrimination.

Predictable how? He said it was ok if it were legal. Well, a lot of things were legal back in the day so it must have been ok. I'm not making a leap.

You knew what my argument was and you twisted it into your own ideology. Clinton paid for her hatred. Trump hasn't paid a single cent for his. They are not the same thing.

It's funny how one side thinks that people discriminating against jerks or a-holes is the same as discrimination based on sexual orientation, color of your skin, or religion.

What is bad about discriminating against people who are just mean and jerks? They can correct their actions if they choose to, but if they choose to be a jerk, go away.

You might find it easier to grasp if you think in terms of equal protection rather than discrimination. In addition to statutory prohibitions, there are common law classifications and tests that apply to those classifications. Try googling "equal protection classifications" as a start.

Not all cases are equal protection cases, of course, but that' s a good start.

That's the hill you want to die on, eh? Because racists and sexists and homophobes have faced centuries of discrimination and -- sob -- all they want is EQUALITY?

The reactionaries will pardon me if I don't shed tears for people who now drape their ooga booga in the language of "religious freedom." I wish they would just be honest and declare they believe in the bigotries we've suffered for centuries, and they long for that world.

For the millionth time: they can think any poison their pappy or their pastor poured into their infantile ear. They just can't actively harm anyone with it anymore, because the world has grown past them. They had a nice run for umpteen millenia of bigotry and prejudice. They should be happy they got to wallow in their filth for that long.

You could kick the women out for wearing offensive t-shirts, but I doubt "we are lesbians" would pass any sort of legal test. In many states, you cannot kick them out for simply being lesbian.

You can discriminate based upon choices and actions, but not intrinsic traits. But that's nothing new, and you likely know that, if you've paid attention to American history and politics at all over the past decade to 50 years.

That is not completely true. There are basically three levels of scrutiny, and they do not all apply to classifications based on intrinsic traits. Classifications based on intrinsic traits such as race or gender are subject to the stictest scrutiny, but there are other classifications and other tests.

I consider religion to be an intrinsic trait because most people are born into theirs. Very few people change their religious affiliation, it's just those that do tend to make the biggest splash in our reported news stories.
