POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

In my opinion, the New York Times editorial board represents the Finance-friendly / Israel-friendly wing of the Democratic party -- Corey Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Andrew Cuomo, etc. They have their place in the fight -- socially liberal, internationalist, fiscally centrist. They are similar to the Washington Post editorial board. The Times emphasizes money and old school education. The Post emphasizes political power and international influence. Overall, I think the Post has surpassed the Times as a quality paper, but that could also just be the evolution of my interests.

I enjoyed Michelle Wolf on the Nightly Show. Her jokes at the correspondents dinner were typical of her. She's an excellent comedian and she loves to wrong-foot the audience.

I agree that the post is better

How to boil a frog.

In an effort to overhaul its internal manual for federal prosecutors, the Department of Justice recently removed sections on the “need for free press and public trial” among several other edits, Buzzfeed News reported Sunday.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein led the charge to update the manual, which traditionally provides policies and guidance on DOJ legal work, and hadn’t seen a major update since 1997, according to Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed tracked the online changes to the manual through the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine.

In the manual’s “media contacts policy” section, a subsection titled “Need for Free Press and Public Trial” was deleted. According to Buzzfeed’s review of the manual, that section, which has been in the manual since 1988, said:

“Likewise, careful weight must be given in each case to the constitutional requirements of a free press and public trials as well as the right of the people in a constitutional democracy to have access to information about the conduct of law enforcement officers, prosecutors and courts, consistent with the individual rights of the accused. Further, recognition should be given to the needs of public safety, the apprehension of fugitives, and the rights of the public to be informed on matters that can affect enactment or enforcement of public laws or the development or change of public policy.”

.

Times is even worse than all that. Their Iraq War cheerleading which they never atoned for is absolutely unforgivable. I'll also note how when they make a mistake in political coverage, and this happened prior to 2016, it always seems to benefit the Republicans (probably because of the "sources" they rely on) while the corrections to the faulty reporting are on page 30. Really a sh itty paper nowadays that may occasionally get something right, but I'll point out again that they're the ones trying to make Sarah Huckabee Sanders into a sympathetic figure...

I listened to Ms. Wolff (YouTube). I found her struggling to connect to any portion of the audience. She really didn't have a true laugh-line in 20 minutes. To me most in the crowd had a "she's the comedian?" look on their faces and were waiting for the bust-a-gut zinger. Yes, that night is supposed to have at least one of those.

Honestly, Mr. Obama's final appearance as POTUS at the dinner was far more humorous (some great one-liners) and far more scalding.

Umm....since she was blasting that very same audience which is chock full of thin skinned media elites what did you expect? What's the one thing held in lower regard than politicians, used car salesmen and payday loan venders? The national media!

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

Yeah, it's hard to laugh when you're the butt of the joke.

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

No response on the last one.

Anyone notice how the "fake news media" had their dinner while the President spent his entire rally spreading "lies" fake news?

And no one really cares. I picked that up on Fox News Sunday, Meet the Press, This Week, and Face the Nation where all they cared about was what some comedian said about another liar. The corporate overlords are playing both sides of the fence.

I haven't seen it yet, but from what I've read, I'd probably agree with Sic. Pushing boundaries is an important part of what comedians do. But for me personally, it works better if it's done with more wit and less brute force. And IF she's looking to more the discussion in a certain direction, it was probably less effective than it could have been. Time will tell, though.

Besides, I love Sarah almost as much as I love her father.

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

When Mr. Obama and Mr. Bush (43) attended, they were harshly scalded, and yet they laughed uproariously. (We have no data point on POTUS45.)

Are you claiming the issue is not the comic but the crowd?
I disagree: she really didn't have a single memorable bust-a-gut laugh line; however, I can see your argument.

Let's not exaggerate: the Times is still an excellent paper in most respects. On most indices it is the finest paper in the US. It's better than even the Post on international news, which is irksome to the latter. The Times just doesn't understand domestic politics west of the Appalachian Trail.

The Iraq cheerleading exposed a perennial Times preference that is hardly a secret -- while not an insane Likudnik house organ it is "Haaretz on the Hudson." They hate Bibi and settlements and bleed for the Palestinian ghetto, but they're also hardline anti-Arab, anti-Saddam, anti-Iran in international affairs. Cheney's Big Lie played into their priorities to defang any regime with the power to restrain Israel's military dominance of the Middle East, so they took a flier on truth for a bit. They were hardly the only ones -- half the Democratic congressional caucus did that too. That is the insidiousness of war fever.

Are we really trying to determine what's funny and what isn't now? Cause, debating facts are too hard or what?

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

Even worse, when it becomes obvious you're not been teased in fun. That was a scalding scolding. Powerful people are not used to having their bullsh-t called on them to their faces.

When history is written it will find that they were all complicit in everything Trump has done or destroyed. At this point just attending a Colonel Huckleberry Sanders press conference is being complicit. It's time that room be empty.

I fully agree. Do not empower a rogue regime. Do not let liars use your channel for their lies. Do not negotiate with terrorists. The press should just embargo the Republican party until the cancer has burned through.

Oh come on, the "CNN loves breaking news. Congrats, you did it! You broke the news." was hilarious, even if you didn't like the rest.

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

Just watched the whole thing. Ms. Wolf rips herself more than Sanders. The poutrage is beyond stupid.

I watched the whole thing yesterday too. I thought there were plenty of LOL moments for both sides. They're freaking jokes, people need to get over it. We're holding a comedian to a higher standard than the POTUS. It's beyond ridiculous.

There were plenty of good jokes, that got a good reaction from the crowd, some groaners, some they didn't care for because it poked fun at the news media, pretty much a run of the mill set for any comedian. But I guess the whole "mean to SHS appearance" angle isn't working and the water-carriers have had to switch to "wasn't THAT funny".
