POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

I'm not so sure about that- listening to the angry crowd in Utah at a town hall meeting for Rep Chaffetz didn't exactly sound happy. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-...trump-brings-boos-and-jeers-at-utah-town-hall

Utah has a bunch of transplanted liberals that moved there for the great access to public lands. They feel like they have no voice politically, because Utah politics are dominated by the Republicans and the LDS church. Those were the people at that town hall, not Trump voters.

My wife and I have considered moving there when we are ready to move on from life on Mount Desert Island. The urban sprawl along the Wasatch front is troubling though, as are the politics of Utah. I've thought about looking for a fixer-upper in Moab, which is in the middle of nowhere, but is very close to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks as well as several national monuments (like the brand new Bears Ears), but like Bar Harbor real estate prices have been going up because of second homeowners . Could have bought a place there fairly cheap a decade ago though, it's a late bloomer compared to MDI with respect to the vacation home market.

Worked for don.

And his approach is exactly what they say of the Green Left- he went at them with basic fear. On a very childish level.

So that worked like a charm for donny, but wont for Senator Warren?

Not correct. Don is a bully, whereas Warren reminds me of my grade school computer teacher with her inflection. Huge difference.

IIRC, they pushed too far and the Chinese entered the war. I'm not sure who they are in this analogy.

Russia. Apt, huh?

*I thought about adding the part about China, but didn't have a good role for them to play in the analogy at that point. :D
**Also, I wasn't entirely sure what to call the "sides" since I don't recall any well-accepted names other than the Commies and the UN Forces. So I stuck with just The South and The North.

I love it when a plan comes together.

A gay man is recovering after being attacked in Logan Circle, allegedly by four men who cited 'Trump America' last week, D.C. police have confirmed with ABC7 News.

According to the police report, the man was walking his dog near the corner of 13th St. and Vermont Ave. NW in Logan Circle at around 7 p.m. last Wednesday, February 1.

According to the report, four white men between 20-30 years old, approached him, with one suspect saying "Hey Snowflake!" Followed by, "This is what a Trump America looks like, ********t!"

I may have mentioned this before but, hey, Trump voters? F-ck you.

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

They're not Republicans. They're Democrats or they voted for McMullin. There's not a single Republican in that state that wouldn't vote for Chaffetz again

If you say so.

I never really though that NPR was fake news. And they did report that both R's and D's were there.

I'm quite familiar with who is out there- being from Idaho, and having my parents few of a handful of D's there.

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

I find as completely degrading and demeaning the "vagina" excuse tossed about here regarding Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren.

If that was a real excuse, how in the world do "red" or "purple" states considered by many here as hick-filled, backwards, rural, wastelands like ND and ME elect senators like Heidi Heitkamp and Olympia Snowe? My goodness ... each of them have ... the "v" word!

And yes, I voted for Heidi. She sees some issues important to me and ND the way I do. And that's why I voted for her.
There will be a female President in my lifetime, and I'm not that young.

Think about it. If you'd been asked 30 years ago if an African American would be elected President in the next 25 years, most of us would have been pretty skeptical, whether we supported the idea or not.

A woman will be elected, but it's going to be a certain kind of woman.

Do you think Al Sharpton ever could have been the first black President? Or even Jesse Jackson? No chance. Too polarizing.

As unfair of a double standard as it may be, like Barack Obama, it's going to take a very precise type of woman to be elected. She can't be polarizing. She will have to be charismatic. She will have to be a great public speaker. And candidly, she'll have to be relatively inexperienced in politics so that there aren't a lot of skeletons to drag out.

But that person is out there.

You forgot one other key item: She will have to be, as Mr. Obama, a liberal-progressive that the media can fawn over.

It's the Jackie Robinson Principle, and I think you are correct.

The way the country was 25 years ago I'd have bet that the first black and the first woman presidents would each be Republican on the "only Nixon could go to China" theme. But now the GOP has become so crazy it may not be possible. They have become the ultimate Identity Politics party, where you have to pass a rigorous ideological paper bag test to even be considered a real American much less a viable candidate.

But it's not "polarizing" to be unacceptable to people who have moved so far into the far right even John Birchers are saying, "yo, maybe tone it down a little?" The center of America politics is now located inside the Democratic party spectrum. The GOP as a whole has become a bizarre outlier scraping up against if not actually across the line into fascism. Even the Democrats at their craziest in the early 70s were perhaps a full standard deviation from the center -- the current GOP is 6 sigma and racing even farther out into space.

Another way to describe that quality is "capable of inspiring people." Since the current brand of conservatism is based upon exclusion and fear, there is not much chance she will come from that side of the aisle.

So Betsy abandoned a trip to a D.C. School today after some protesters blocked the entrance.
I saw the video- it was only a handful of people...get used to it, snow flake. Time to toughen up.

I think the right conservative woman could win. If you found someone who is maybe Palin's age, had the speaking ability of Obama, and maybe the charisma and policy positions of Reagan, I think she could get elected. Not sure who exactly that might be right now, though. :)

Let's put it this way. There may very well have been Republicans in there and they may have been yelling. Come election time if Chaffetz is the one with the R after the name they're pulling that lever.

She also asked on Twitter where the pencils were on her first day, and got the response: "Why don't you buy them with your own money like a teacher"
